...I have been with Bellair for 4 months now and have had issues with every single billing cycle so far. My insurance was signed at $335 monthly, and every month I have been charged a higher fee for a reason that cannot be explained apparently! This month they tried to charge me twice! I always pay my bills on time so there is no reason for this or any confusion. Another thing was this month I was billed on the 8th when every other month I’ve been billed on the 19th. I do not like that they have access to my account like so to just charge to my card without my permission...

...Took my statement, step by step. Told me all the people who will contact me, then emailed their info. Each of the person called separately. Very courteous and kind. I got my repairs done on time and I am very happy with their service...

...I was a customer for 4 months, called to make a claim and was informed that my insurance was cancelled. Upon further investigation I was able to find out that they sent a registered letter, I had never received such a letter. I contacted Belair Direct to see if they could tell me who signed for the letter but they would not disclose the information and just stated that since they did not receive the registered letter as being returned to the sender that it was received by the correct party. Be warned they will cancel you at any time with no communication and you will may be left without a vehicle and zero compensation...

NSF policy is ridiculous

...I've been with Belair for a few years. No accidents no claims and I at first loved the customer service. Twice I accidentally went NSF. Completely my fault. Last month I noticed my insurance wasn't taken out the date it normally is, but being a weekend I wasn't too worried. I called to make sure everything was good. The agent said oh no your payments come out two days after the date you think it is supposed to ( they said the 12th, I thought the 10th as my policy stated) so here I think, this month is fine! I had unexpected expenses and my pay was going in on the 12th. I thought, no big deal they just confirmed last month my payments come out on the 12th! On the 11th, yesterday they tried to take money out and went NSF. So I call this morning and told one, the last agent I spoke to was wrong. It was the 10th, two this is my fourth non-payment ( which if it was consistent back to back, I get it, but over the span of several years you are still counting?) and they will not reinstate my period. No option to pay a reinstate and NSF fee on top of my monthly payment. My payment wouldn't have gone NSF if i wasn't told incorrect information by their staff! The response was the non-payment is not seen in their system yet and to call back next week so they can “ look into it” and see if they can make an exception. Belair won't take money out from a credit card, won't confirm the correct dates payments are taken out. Your strike count gets added no matter how long you are in standing. And now I'm penalized for the employee's error? Reading the other comments I'm now worried i won't even be able to afford the cancellation fee! Talk about merry Christmas...

...If would be less value than one star I would give that... A. It has been 2.5 months that I suffered a loss and Belairdirect is putting me through HELL! B. They even treated and considered me a criminal to one point and then they apologized about that. C. The worst experience in my 54 years of life and hope wish and pray that no one goes through what I am going through with BELAIRDIRECT!!! They are ruthless, heartless and do not give a damn about you or your claim...

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

...Start to finish time was a little long but the finished product was well worth the wait. I had a great rental for the intern time so the only inconvenience was being without my car. Сorrespondence was good with everyone and the hiccups were ironed out. The end result justified the means...

...Canceled after 5 days when we realized the coverage was half of what we had with the other company. They charged 200 cancellation fee didn’t care rude and patronizing representatives we will never deal or recommend this horrible company...

...Their Auto Merit Program is another way of taking money from you!!! I got my final quote without the auto merit program because I told them I can't download the app. After 2 months they increased my premium by 15%, saying because I didn't enroll on their auto merit. That was not even mentioned in the policy. I called their office and obviously, they will not change it because they have to be consistent on taking money from customers apart from the premium which is just the legal part of the contract, and they get used to that and having more is not enough for them, so, they find ways to rob you. Had I known how bad they make business, I would haven't even click their website...

Accident Claim Experience

...Other than having to wait a while on hold to speak to a claims person, I found the claims process relatively easy to navigate. Having an accident will always be a bit scary and inconvenient. The people with whom I engaged at BelAir and the Service Centre were all very pleasant, calm, and helpful. This makes a big difference when you are already rattled from the accident. The Service Centre also managed my expectations about the time it would take to repair the vehicle. From the outset, I was told, "Look, this could easily take three weeks" - and it did. But I knew that, and so I was ready for it. At the end of the day, when you have an accident, you want to deal with real humans who are patient and calm. You want people to help you understand what the process is and how long it will take and what to expect. BelAir and the Intact Service Centre met these key needs. I have consistently found the people at these companies to be excellent. So BelAir and Intact Service Centre...don't automate your services. Your human employees are amazing and they make a big difference...

...I contacted Belair direct for a new auto insurance quote. They quoted me an incredible price, and after 10 minutes with the agent, I was transferred to another agent to close the deal. I have been continuously licensed for 24 years (1995 until now), and have had no claims or tickets. I was pleased with the price which was significantly cheaper than other insurance companies. I gave them my driver's license number and my wife's and then after 40 mins on the phone with them, he informs me the quote has gone up 25% because their database only goes back to 2000, and I don't get credit for my driving from 1995-2000 (ages 16-21). They suggested I get a driver's abstract from Alberta which of course is almost impossible to do from Ontario, and would require me to travel there (which they know beforehand). This was clearly made up to increase my premium. Don't waste your time contacting them, it is all too good to be true!!! Classic bait and switch. You'll waste an hour and they will try to fleece you...

...My family has been with BelairDirect, also under Intact Insurance for many years. I was involved in a hit and run accident in 2018 at 0645 am and filed a collision report and report it to insurance. Because there were no witnesses or dash cams, the company was unable to determine which driver was at fault even if the person who caused the crash failed to stop after an accident. With the license plate number and the description of the car in hand, I was still unable to prove that I was not at fault. The police investigation was poorly done where a call was made to the driver's company (the vehicle was part of a company fleet insurance policy) and the driver had denied the hit, claimed that I had hit him. Intact was only able to offer me a 50/50 claim, my car wasn't worth fixing as it is an older model, it would not have benefitted me to claim anything to fix the vehicle at that point. The rep who handled my claim was unwilling to help me investigate further and come to terms with the other party's insurance policy. Simply told me there is no way around it. The claims representative failed to document the many phone calls exchanged between the times I had called in to inquire, and also left me voicemails to say that I had not been able to be reached within 2 months when I have called to their company during working hours to no response. Then the case was closed because "they were unable to contact me". Fast forward 1 year later, I had switched insurance companies and am with a new policy. The new company was able to offer me a competitive rate since the claim on my file was at 0% fault. I was just notified by my new company that BelairDirect had gone back, a year later and made changes to my claim, making it my fault for what had previously happened. Now the new company needs to increase my rate to +$130 a month because of this. I had called back to Belair to inquire about this new "change" and they claimed nothing was changed. Beware of this company, they are not looking to help you with your claim. The reps are misleading and want you to take the route that will benefit the company. On top of that, after I had sent my vehicle to Assured Collision for a quote on the repair, the rep had gone MIA and pretended that she has not received the report...

...I've been a Bellair Direct client for 2 years. I called in to get a quote on an additional vehicle for insurance. I spoke about using the new car for business. The representative wrote down all my quote information and sent it to an underwriter who declined the coverage for commercial use. They told me I could call in to cancel coverage if I go with another company. A few days later I call in to ask for a quote on personal use of the additional vehicle instead of business use. They told me they can't cover the new one, and my coverage on the OLD car is set to be automatically cancelled within one week because I am "using my vehicle for business". Quotes are not just quotes at Bellair. If you inquire, they can and will cancel you on the spot. I now have to find regular insurance elsewhere...

arbitrary deductible increase

...I received two letters dated the same day from Belairdirect. One letter informed me that "given the age of the vehicle, we would like".. "you send us photos of your vehicle, taken from all sides, within 30 days." The other letter informed me that "after careful review of the policy", which I have been holding for more than 20 years, "and based on new information"..." your collision and comprehensive deductibles have been increased to $1000". That means more than double. The agent on the phone was not able to clarify what "new information" it was referring to. Is it common to have the deductible raised abruptly once the car is 20 years old? There was no inquiry about any technical or mechanical data or maintenance etc. It seems to me that this company is making decisions arbitrarily trying to appear as objective and reasonable as possible. As numerous posts mentioned already, this is not a reliable alternative to the only (mandatory) ICBC. Drivers in BC have little freedom of choice...

Lied about cancellation fees

...I was tired of Belair's constantly rising rates, so I started shopping around. I found insurance with a well-known company, that was almost $600 a year less expensive as well as FULL COVERAGE and 1/2 the rate for deductible as Belair. Before jumping, I called Belair to confirm how much the cancellation fees are going to be. I was told a certain price if I did so before a specific date in Oct. If I waited until after that date, the rate would be almost 3 TIMES AS MUCH! So I cancelled immediately and signed up for the other company right away. I discovered that Belair still took out the fee for Oct/Nov! I called them and had to speak to 2 different people. Both people insisted that the cancellation fee was now the price, 3 times as much as I was quoted. Not only did they ILLEGALLY take out more money than agreed, but STILL EXPECT more! Supposedly a manager will call tomorrow, but I've dealt with the same companies before, so I know how that will go. I am investigating the steps I need to do to lodge an official complaint with IBC, Insurance Bureau of Canada as well as FSCO, Financial Services Commission of Ontario. I'm also going to investigate just how many complaints are lodged about Belair. While they are ripping me off, it will be the last and I'm so glad to get away from this corrupt company!!!

Avoid at all costs- Scammed

...This insurance company is almost criminal in nature. Wrote off a 4-month-old Mazda 3 with 8000kms on the odometer. Personally paid $34,000 for it from the dealer in May 2019 for the car brand new. Belair wrote a cheque for $27,500 claiming that's the best they can offer since the car is now considered pre-owned. This company does nothing but beat around the bush and take advantage of their customers. Their level of customer service is absolutely pathetic. They're scammers point-blank. Spend your money on a reputable insurance company instead of these jokers...

...Thank You for being there for me. An unexpected tornado damaged my Nisssan Murano Premium. A quick call to Belairdirect and I was authorized to take my vehicle to the collision center of my choosing which I did. They undertook the repairs and did an excellent job finishing ahead of schedule. Their workmanship was outstanding. Due to my physical limitations, the substitute vehicle I required was not off the shelf and Belairdirect ensured that my specific needs were effectively and promptly addressed. In the end, my vehicle was returned like new and Belairdirect superseded my expectations and outperformed other insurance companies servicing friends vehicles damaged that same day due to the tornado. Many neighbours are switching too Belairdirect. Some are still waiting for their vehicle after 4 months tied up in substandard collision centers and their insurance companies have been doing very little to assist them. Once again - THANK YOU BELAIRDIRECT...

...I went online to get a quote, the price seemed good, so I called the next evening to finalize, was shocked to find my quote had changed by over 800.00 dollars! Asked representative why the difference in 24 hours, he replied that the price that I had from their web site included a discount if I bundled my house insurance with them. I explained to the representative that I did not ask for home insurance as I already have a good rate, and they should honour their quote, I asked the representative that I want to talk to his supervisor, he replied that there is no supervisor, but they have a customer experience team. I said: let me talk to them. You can't they will call you! Well, a week has gone by and no call or email. Very unprofessional and disappointed in the way this matter was handled...

...Worst experience of my life. I was hit by a driver with no licence who ran a red light and totalled my car. Belair denied both my vehicle and medical benefits claims based on a non-existent application they claim I lied on. No application has ever been provided to me. I was told it was a signed document as well as a recorded phone but inquires to their claims department, sales department. And privacy officer revealed neither exists. On top of everything, the medical adjuster's partner in crime lied about interaction with me and accused me of using profane language towards her (which absolutely did not happen) resulting in my paperwork not being submitted on time. She also pre-signed all documents as my legal representative... which she most certainly was not. It took her manager 30 days to contact me and completely brushed off my concerns...

...My experience has been awful since the renewal of my insurance. After being a customer of 5 years my insurance was put back to what I was originally paying my 1st year as a customer. After finding cheaper insurance I decided to cancel with BellAir. When I cancelled on Sept 3rd I had a payment going out that night. I was told they are going to still take it but I will receive it back within 5 business days. After not receiving my payment back within 5 days I called again and was told they have a date and it will be back in my account by the 17th. Again after not receiving it by the 17th, I called again 1st time had a rude representative and was hung up. And 2nd time was told again that my money is going to be in my account by Sep 19th. Overall I hate that I wasted 5 years with this company...

Took my money twice

...First time in 2018 the girl who charged my premium called and said she never authorized the charge so Belair reversed the money to her without contacting me even though they have the audio recording of her authorizing it they reversed my money to her and my yearly rate. So I repaid my yearly rate and then the following year I went monthly as I knew I would be leaving them. Now at the end of my term, I gave notice and they still pulled out the new higher amount and I have waited over 2 weeks now for my money to be given back to me. No one from the privacy department will own up to what they did stating they would refund anyone calling saying they want the money back even if that party was paid leaving the one like me to chase people in court for the money they took from me. If I could give them a zero star I would. I have never had a late payment and no claims ever with the 8 years or more with them. Beware...
