Disgrace to Banking Industry

by Harry on Jun 14, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Hi Canadian Tire, Please stop providing people with financial services. Please stop scamming people with your worthless credit card application. Please stop ruining people's credit. Please stop being a bank. (There are actual banks like Scotia or TD, you are a disgrace to the banking industry.) I have submitted my complaint to OBSI and have fun with them. Please treat your customers like real people.

Rude and Disrespectful

by safran on Nov 26, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Inquired about upgrading from the regular to the Elite card. I was told only select clients can get the card, by invitation only. Escalated to a Supervisor, who was rude, and showed no empathy. When pointed out that their website indicates only the World Card indicates it is by Invitation Only, he pointed out that they can do as they wish. Went on to indicate that based on my salary of 15 years ago, I do not come close. No attempt was made whatsoever to even find out what my current salary. I indicated I see no benefit with the card and before I can finish my sentence to ask to have the card cancelled, he said done. So much for Customer Service and Retention of clients. I am glad I read the other reviews on this site while waiting for a Supervisor. Beware of the arrogant reps.

Bank involved in fraud?

by Don'tBillMe on Oct 8, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I received an unsolicited card in the mail. When I reported it to the crack fraud investigators at Canadian Tire Bank, I was threatened that if I did not comply with their investigation I would be responsible for the charges on the card. They issued a card to someone who spelled my name wrong and used a different birth date and then let that person charge several transactions to the account. I provided them with the police file number for my identity theft which is all I was required to do but I also agreed to sign a declaration so that they could conduct their investigation. I was being nice, what a mistake that was. The letter sent with the declaration was an attempt to entrap me. It stated that I had reported unauthorized transactions on my account. It also contained the same threat of not complying with their investigation. When I complained about my treatment for reporting the fraud, I was told it was a form letter. Their policy seems to be to bully and entrap victims of identity theft into paying for the mistakes of Canadian Tire Bank. I will not shop there and any mail from Canadian Tire goes directly in the garbage. If their goal was to have me never contact Canadian Tire again, they were successful. The fraud investigators at Canadian Tire Bank did zero investigation into the police file numbers I gave them. My identity was stolen along with about 70 others and I would bet there have been over 100 cards issued in those identities. When I tried to talk about that or why a card was issued, I was interrupted and talked over. I was the first and only subject of their so-called investigation. It makes me wonder if Canadian Tire Bank's policies are to encourage fraudulent activity and somehow profit from it.

Lost me after 15 years

by Vanessa on Aug 29, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Been very good in the past but it was really the past. They don't care about their customers anymore. Always paid my account in time for 15 years and because of using the credit card lesser, they decided to lower my credit limit from 20K to 10K. When I called, I have got the answer ''WE DO WHAT WE WANT''.

Okay, got it, I cancelled the credit card.

CARD DECLINED

by JC on Aug 16, 2020
2 out of 5 stars

My card was declined for a $20 purchase I went home and checked and realized, I did indeed pay on time, but I in error paid the wrong credit card company. I owed $191 and had $4800 of credit still available. Always paid on time before the mistake I made. I emailed them and pointed out it was disgusting to decline the card for one missed payment - especially in a pandemic where maybe the person is sick and cannot do their banking. Pointed out all my other payments were on time. They replied saying for privacy reasons call them, which I did. Customer service answered well that is the system. In summary, the Canadian Triangle card is an UNRELIABLE CARD. 1) to travel with, considering they decline the card, after one missed payment. 2) the card cannot be used for automatic payments, as you run the risk of all your auto payments declined because of one missed payment, either you could not afford the payment, or in my case, I made a stupid error.

Disgusting customer service

by 2hourslost on Feb 8, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

After being a customer of the original CTC card, I, like all others was transferred to the first M/C and now Triangle. Just used at store and gas. I went to use it on January 31st and declined. I never get declined on cards as I always pay the bill off full. At home, I tried logging on but received notice on line to call 1800 number. I ended up talking to security who I could not understand and he could not understand me. I asked to speak to the manager and that was a bigger mistake, she was downright rude. I had enough and asked if I had a balance as I was cancelling the card. She told me no balance. Cut up my card and next week get an email statement showing $30.00 credit. So not only rude but they have now proven to be liars as well.

Not worth it

by Charlie on Dec 20, 2019

I cancelled my card after a couple of months. Interest rates are uncompetitive, customer service is lousy, merchandise is limited (no groceries) and their gas stations are few and far between.

AVOID if you are smart.

by Toronto20 on Sep 25, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I have been having issues viewing my statement for a month online and they still have not fixed it. They said they do not have any access to send me the bill statement thru email even I explained how I do not feel comfortable paying my bill without reviewing and being overcharged later. Very unprofessional and I really do not recommend this credit card.

Avoid this card like a plague

by FamilyGuy41 on Apr 2, 2019

Where do I begin? I started with $500.00 credit limit and had a $20,000 6-7 years later. The interest will kill you from ever being able to pay it off. When I signed up, it was at 10% interest, they increased it. No warning at all till it hit 24% to 25% - that's where they get you on big purchases. Fortunately, I paid off my card. Then they start increasing your limit without your permission again. I got mine decreased and asked if I could get a lower interest rate as my card was paid off. They wouldn't decrease my interest rate because I lowered the credit limit on my card or else they would have. So I cancelled and went with Visa.

Lost me three

by Done on Mar 2, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

The account in good standing cancelled without me knowing about it (card expiry date was still good as well) I was in line at a Grocery store, running a little late but had to feed the kids then hit the gas station before taking them to the places they needed to be. When I called to ask for help I was declined any help. “ sorry sir we have rebranded, you SHOULD have received a new card in the mail and you SHOULD have known your card would be cancelled”. Fortunately, I could call a friend to actually help me out so I could get home. What would have happened if I hadn’t been closer to home? This is what 4th time they’ve rebranded. I’ve been a loyal customer for 20+ years, always paid my bills on time.
