Account closed

I have had this HBC credit card for years, only to find out the account was closed due to inactivity, found out because I checked my credit score. A letter or email would have been nice before the closing!! It could have been embarrassing if I had been shopping and had a declined card without knowing why?

Cap One-US Bank Card

by steve on Dec 21, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

This company, while it has offices in Canada, Capital One is a US Banking outfit and is run out of the United States and has no connection with Canadian Banks. After being with the company for many years and always paying my bills in full every month, when I needed to increase my limit by a measly $500 they couldn't do it because the US offices don't give a damn about their Canadian clients. Canadian management can not do a thing in terms of credit limits without the US bank's permission. And this is only one of the many problems I experienced with this company over the years. And mistakes were always in their favour. Be warned - stay away from Capital One and stick with a credit card company that is tied to a Canadian Bank.

Horrible service

by Melissa F on Sep 15, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Worst customer service. No one knows what they are doing. I called to find out why I hadn't received the package for fraudulent activity on my credit card and the representative said she there wasn't any report of it. I said that's funny because I have a reference number. Then she transfers me to no one and they hang up on me. Bunch of incompetent individuals. I will be cancelling my credit card once this is dealt with.

Poor Processing Times

by Karyn on Sep 8, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Beware! I registered for this card because of the perks (1.25% rewards back on 3rd party purchases, redeemable at the Bay). However, their system is clearly designed to discourage 3rd party purchases. Reward points take 2-3 billing cycles to show up for 3rd party purchases. It takes 3-5 business days to process a 3rd party transaction. Refunds are taking over 15 business days. I've been waiting for 20 days for a refund to be posted onto my account. They said that there is nothing that can be done about it and that this is their standard... It's really an unacceptable timeframe. All my other credit cards show transactions immediately under "pending transactions". The customer service agent led me on to believe that they would resolve this issue. However, after repeatedly asking about what exactly will be done to resolve the issue, they said that the 3-5 business days is their standard and nothing will be done about it. They also tried to discourage me from escalating this issue. The account supervisor said that nothing can be done. I've been on the phone for 3 hours and have had no improvements.

Terrible customer service

by Disappointed_User on Aug 11, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I applied for Hudson's Bay credit card first in 2017 and then recently in 2020. Both times they rejected me and did not tell me why they made the rejection decision. Instead, they suggested that I contact credit bureaus, although they acknowledge that credit bureaus did not make the decision and will be unable to tell me why Hudson's Bay credit card department rejected me. I called HBC customer services more than 10 times to inquire why they rejected my application when I have only 5 credit cards, a credit score of 800, and a history of 100% payment every month. Very disappointedly, all they can say is that "they are the receiving end, they don't know why their system rejected me, they have limited information, and they don't have a department that makes the approval or rejection decision". They even suggest that I go to a Hudson's Bay store to ask why their system rejected me! Every hard inquiry stays in the credit report for at least 3 years, and HBC (partnered with Capital One) has put 2 hard inquires in my report, but not given me a single credit card or even a reason why they rejected my application. Hudson's Bay Credit Card is simply an unestablished company made of unknowledgeable people that cannot provide any useful service. I will never apply for Hudson's Bay Credit Card again and don't recommend anyone to apply for it ever.

Charging Interest

by VA on Apr 27, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I received my statement balance and paid it in full within 1 week of the statement date (more than 2 weeks before the due date).
I didn't use the card for any other purchases.

I then received my next statement a month later, showing I paid the full balance, yet still received an interest charge.
The interest charge was the only charge.

Credit rating over $1

by HBC sucks on Feb 27, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I left a small balance of $1 and change for a couple of months and when I paid it off I found they had closed the account and this had a huge effect on my credit rating. I can't believe they screwed me so bad over a dollar which I paid off even though the account was closed

Accounts and service

by mike on Jan 30, 2020
2.5 out of 5 stars

I don't know what is going on with this company. The service representatives they have are not up to the job. They have in general a bad attitude and not helpful. The wait times online are unacceptable (suggests lots of complaints and/or understaffed). I could not set up an online account from their website and could get no-one that could rectify this!? At this point after three days and four phone calls - nothing has been resolved. Writing this brings me to the 5th phone call ON HOLD for now 22 minutes. I have better things to do. Too bad because the store is pretty good and great deals and discounts for quality products.

Failed customer service

by eddiereview on Dec 29, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

One word: WORST! First I normally don't go online to write these kinds of reviews but in this case, I feel obligated to do so because they have been so bad in terms of resolving issues and customer service. They double charged me on my credit card. They dare to deny it. After 10 customer service calls. Being passed around left and right, still did not fix the issues, most horrific experience ever. Their customer service is clearly outsourced so they had massive problems comprehending my question (super frustrating) I'm a very patient person. My statement is in black and white and I don't see it's possible for them to even deny? I have never ever experienced this from any retailer/credit card company. Boggles my mind still. Don't sign up, most horrible customer service experience ever and they don't seem to own up to their faults.

Worst service ever!

by cborg on Dec 3, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Similar to another recent review, i asked for increase from $1k to $3k and was declined. I have absolutely PERFECT credit, and a very high limit on my daily use elite mastercard. I asked why I was declined and the robot couldn't tell me. When I asked to speak to a manager for clarification, they put me on hold for 15+min then disconnected, so I had to call back and then was told after 20+ min that they are busy and a manager can call me back in 2-3 days. What kind of customer service is that? I rarely use this card and will not be using again in the future. Ridiculous. I also noticed my credit limit was $10K a few years back and suddenly dropped to $1k? The Bay, whats going on?
