Stolen credit, NO HELP

by Kathleen Booth on Apr 1, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

My MBNA CREDIT CARD was stolen and after calling to report it stolen every day being on hold for countless hours and never being able to get through to anyone, I finally woke up at 3 am to see if that would be less busy. I discovered that my card is ACTIVELY being used. This isn’t a card I use, as I just have it for emergencies so I didn’t notice it is missing. The online system is down so I can’t check anything happening with my account. I haven’t been receiving statements in the mail and I can’t get through to a representative as they just put me on hold for hours and eventually disconnected. I have no idea if someone has access to my account or changed my mailing address as I can’t even get into my online account. I know it’s a busy time but reporting a stolen card should not be this difficult as this will ultimately affect my credit score.

Thieves

I paid my entire balance and MBNA charged me 5 dollars out of nowhere nearly a month later. I found out like 7 months after that I have a balance of 5 dollars on my credit card. My credit score was ruined as a result. I called them and explained to them that I had paid all the amount I owed and that they can't take interest on 0 dollar balance, but they said that they have the right to take interest on 0 dollar balance anytime they want. The customer service representative refused to help me...

AVOID! RUDE and DISHONEST

by Judge Jenny on Aug 17, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID if you can. This company hurt my credit rating, without my knowledge. The customer service representative was extremely rude! I signed up for this credit card almost 20 years ago when I was a University student because I liked the free t-shirts they were giving out on campus. No meaningful job, lots of student debt, and they kept increasing my credit limit without my requests over the years. That should have been a red flag to how trustworthy they are. 17 years passed. I paid my bills online every month - I never missed a payment. I never really have any problems except aggressive telemarketing. The MNBA I had did not provide any rewards, and so I decided to switch credit card companies to one with a lower interest rate and better rewards. In 2017, I paid my last bill in full and requested an account closure. I spoke to a customer service representative who closed it for me and thanked me for the time with them. I could no longer access my online account. 3 years pass. I do a credit check on myself. I find out that MBNA has reported me to the credit bureau for a "delinquent payment." This is news to me since I was not informed that I even owed anything. After being put on hold for 30 minutes, I got one customer service employee who was pleasant. He said it was likely residual interest, that he would check in to it, and I should call back in a few weeks. A few weeks later, after being on hold for 30 more minutes, I am greeted by an EXTREMELY rude employee, who told me that, yes, I owed $2.94 and, that, yes, they did send me to a credit bureau for this. His claim was that they had informed me that this would happen. Quite obviously, I never received this information. I would have paid a $2.94 payment! I asked if they tried another form of communication - especially when it was something as serious as a credit record and when the customer had many years of exemplary payments. He kept cutting me off, telling me it was my fault, that it's up to me to check my accounts (even though after I closed the account, I had no access to it). Now, this $2.94 charge will have a negative effect on my credit rating for years! MBNA - if you are going to be sneaky and treat customers this badly, at least invest in some employees who are polite! I would say AVOID THIS COMPANY. There are so many other companies who are not this sneaky and rude! I want nothing more to do with them! AVOID THIS COMPANY!

Avoid these guys all you can

Customer service will time and time again put you on hold for 10-15 minutes at a time, fix nothing and ask useless questions, then go back to putting you on hold again.

RIP OFF

They don't tell you that you don't get cash back for purchases at Costco, insurance, utilities, etc. They don't even give you the cash back!!! They are liars and cheaters and I have decades of regret for using this card. I could have tons of air miles or value elsewhere. Why they are allowed to dupe consumers like this? Stay away!

Do NOT consider MBNA.

by Anti-MBNA, B.A., P.M.P., M.B.A. on Feb 12, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Full disclosure, I am no longer a customer of this credit card company and haven't been for a long time, but I am still affected by the issues I had with them years later. I had two credit cards with MBNA and with both products, I experienced absolutely HORRIBLE service. I had auto-payment set up to pay the minimum balance automatically to ensure I never had a late payment if I were to miss paying the balance in full, but somehow frequently had issues with the company receiving or logging my auto payments to the point where it would be considered 'late'. The whole point of setting up auto-payments was that I wouldn't have to worry about paying the card as it should be done automatically, but the funds would be pulled out of my bank account and it would take more than A MONTH for MBNA to log it against the card. I would call and try to sort it out every month and only after I terminated my relationship with the company, found out they had been logging it as 'Missed Payment' all this time, which affected my rating for a long time. When I had enough and began to attempt to terminate my cards out of frustration, there were MONTHS of residual balances owed. Cents, that would not show up on statements or online or even when I called to speak with their agents. This made it impossible to settle my account and would again show up as 'late' in the future. I ended up over-paying (I just paid $10) into the account and kept calling in for months after to keep checking and finally closed the account, with extra credit on the account. Again, years later in my credit file, I found out that for BOTH credit cards, the company closed the credit cards under 'Closed by credit grantor' and 'Due to delinquency', which is NOT true at all! I initiated both closures quite PAINFULLY and gave them extra money to do it. For background, I WORK in finance for a living, I graduated with a double major in Mechanical Engineering and Business Management (finance specialty), and have a professional project management designation. I manage assets and am VERY familiar with the numbers world. Leaving MBNA, my credit rating has recovered and fortunately back to an Excellent score (780+). It is ironic that some of my credit cards are with TD now and I have nothing but praise for them, but my horrible experience still existed after TD's acquisition of MBNA. To summarize, I would highly recommend anybody considering an MBNA card to look elsewhere. Borrowing from your corner loan shark would be a more logical option for your future. I'm kidding, of course--we all know loan sharks don't work on corners. In all seriousness, do not go with MBNA. I was triggered to write this review when a random ad showed up on my screen.

Payments are so tough and any other credit card does the job. This has no use at all other than adding headache to your financial profile

They would get less than 1 star from me but that's not possible!

by Wanda on Mar 6, 2022

In December I was on Amazon and saw the MNBA credit card option and I would get $50 savings, why not apply for the card. It took till January to receive so I tossed it in my desk unopened. Later in January, I placed an order on Amazon not giving it any thought as my information is saved regarding my credit card. In February I received a bill in the mail from MNBA. What the hell that envelope was still unopened on my desk so the card was never activated. I opened the bill to see I owed MNBA $46. I signed into my Amazon account only to see that either MNBA or Amazon had activated their card and listed my other credit card as expired! I was apprehensive to pay the bill online so I wrote a cheque and cut up the card and sent it back!! So dishonest and desperate for clients.

Liars

by Lisa on Dec 3, 2021

Purchased on Amazon. Was advised that if I applied for an MBNA card I would receive 50.00 of my order and I would be approved in 2 minutes - complete LIES!
I applied for the card then was told I had to wait 30 days for approval and I didn’t get 50.00 off my order!
Tried to cancel/withdraw my application and of course, nobody can help and nobody and MBNA to speak to.
DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS CREDIT CARD - THEY LIE AND HAVE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Totally Useless

by Shujaat on Nov 2, 2021

I was offered a credit card and unfortunately, I accepted the offer. The mobile app did not work most of the time. To call customer service or to get someone on live chat is like pulling teeth. You have to wait for a long time to get someone and when you do, surprise! surprise! The person on the other end is always rude, obnoxious and untrained. Yesterday after wasting a total of 52 minutes on hold, I cut my card and asked to cancel my account. Who needs undue aggravation and waste of time.
