Mortgage disability insurance

by MR.T on Jul 6, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

It's Canada Life that is associated with CIBC. Paid into it for 22 years. Didn't read the fine print of only 2 years of disability insurance, what a joke especially when I was paying a premium price. Now I need them more than ever to put a second claim in and nothing. I'm probably going to lose the house. They don't seem to care. I've got 5 doctor's notes and still nothing. Wasted one year because Covid couldn't get testing, but they still counted it, they could have helped me with that as well.

Worst experience

by Megha on Mar 26, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I was pregnant and I got severe back pain, nausea and headache so my doctor advised me to take some rest and avoid my regular duties for some days I applied short term disability but Canada Life declined my application by saying that I don’t have any complications. If they don’t want to approve then why do they ask us if they need more information from our doctor and we are responsible for the payment because the doctor already gave the information in a required form that we submitted at starting…

Screwed out of LTD

by Barbara Ell on Sep 9, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

I worked for 11 years lifting heavy patience for a complex Care facility and nobody would help me and I got injured. Took forever like 2 years before I got my disability. Somewhere in the scuffle I developed severe headaches and occipital neuralgia. I have been working and making more than they have been paying me. I cannot afford to live off of $1,800 a month. I have to work. And now that I've been making more money they're cutting me off and taking away my benefits. They know I'm suffering they know I'm in agonizing pain they know that I claim all the money I make. This is very distressing and if I knew they were going to do this I wouldn't have worked at all and I would have lived in a cardboard box on the street. Now I feel like I've been thrown under the bus. I have no support if my wrist finally give up and stop working completely. I am disabled from work and have other issues because of dealing with disability. This is abuse.

In it for profits only

by Mentally Ill on Jul 12, 2021

As many others have said, I wouldn’t waste your money paying towards LTD if it is with Canada Life. My case manager is clueless and it seems Canada Life does not recognize mental health as a true illness.
Be VERY aware of what you are paying to them as they rake in billions in revenue with payouts that won’t benefit you at all.
They are a sham!

Claim managers

by Disgusted46 on Apr 9, 2021

I have had to deal with the nastiest claim manager. I am on disability due to illness, and she calls all snarky, condescending and threatening. I'm recording any calls I have with her in the future and filing a lawsuit.
In this day and age, this shouldn't be happening. Mental illness is not a joke.
If I could leave no stars I would.
Warning: Do not use this company!

Terrible service

by Holster57 on Sep 23, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I have a disability claim with Canada Life. The initial Case Manager was extremely disrespectful towards me. What is surprising is she is one of the supervisors! The fact that they would put someone in this position who has such a lack of compassion and no skill set in regards to dealing with people speaks volumes. She was condescending and rude when speaking with me. She lied about the conversations we had and said she told me things she hadn’t. The claim was eventually transferred. I have not been able to reach the new case manager as they don’t answer their phone. I have no idea what is going on. Payments have stopped and I have no idea why. They are refusing to answer questions about the care that I need support with in order to recover. They are absolutely terrible to deal with and making an already stressful situation extremely more stressful!

Waste of Your Money

by UnhappyCustomer on May 14, 2020

There's no point in paying for disability insurance through this company. Long or short-term, they will not pay. They will deny your claim and make you jump through hoops to appeal it, all while you're too sick or injured to deal with it. I ended up going through EI Sickness anyways. Why pay into something that won't even be there when you need it? The adjusters are very rude, and just the stress of dealing with mine worsened my condition. Don't buy insurance from these people, you're flushing your money down the drain.

Harrassing bullies to the max

by veryill on Apr 30, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

After paying health insurance to Canada Life I became very ill and unable to work. At this time of Covid-19 pandemic they are forcing me to go out and "Find Employment" despite what my medical doctors are totally against. They refuse to send me any documents of their rules. Harass me to no end. Very unprofessional. They even told me not to see my doctors as they don't even know what diseases are that I am diagnosed with. Really do not even deserve any stars on reviews. Very insensitive and could care less about clients. Pitiful their attitudes.

Horrible people

I dealt with one of the rudest customer service agents and ended up hanging up due to harassment. I then complained to the complaint which they then informed her that I had complained. She then called me to confront me and harass me more. I then emailed saying I would not deal with this agent. 2 weeks later her manager called saying that is my case agent and she has to be the one to deal with my claim and then I responded that I would record the conversation this time since they denied recording the first conversation even though there is an automatic message saying the call would be recorded. It's been 2 1/2 months now without a single disability check and are not paying for my therapy sessions. They also transferred me between 3 provinces and multiple people to delay the claim.

didn't pay for claims

Hello to everyone who had the misery of dealing with this so-called Insurance Company that pulls in 10 billion yearly and they can't even pay two months coverage of disability properly and reasonably. I had surgery and was out of work for two months and just because I returned to work shortly after two months, so they only paid $20 towards my line of credit to cover me for ONE day. I had to pay my surgeon $45 to have a medical report done to send to Canada Life for the surgery I endured. Like everyone here, I've been paying for useless insurance coverage when they don't even cover your psychology therapy bills of having to deal with these thieves! Anyone willing to start a class action with this scam of a company who only collects and doesn't pay out. My line of credit piled up with interest and monthly payments where I am no longer to even give them a payment heading towards bad credit while Canada Life only gave $20 towards my line of credit. There are no words at this given moment to express how furious I am along with several others who were royally screwed by this company. Beware! Do Not go with Canada Life! It is insulting for a $10 Billion company that can't spare to pay for two months' coverage or can't spare $600!
