Discrimination at its best

This company has declined my policy application twice, finding excuses due to my medical situation and history with alcohol. I'm 45 and had a benign tumor on my spine when I was 42 and first applied. They said the medication and history with alcohol was the reason. I was 18 and signed into rehab as I was partying and in trouble with the law. My mom convinced me to do so. I drink on SOME weekends. I've had my tumor removed and had a follow-up MRI to show no signs of the rumor returning. I receive a letter telling me this. No phone calls or questions for clarity. Terrible company and process.

Any reason to deny coverage

Suffered an injury while at work, but denied disability coverage for a completely unrelated reason. They will always have the upper hand on you and will look for any reason to deny you coverage. Do not put your trust in this company to provide you with peace of mind when you need it most.
'We drag our feet' should be their company motto. Don't expect an answer to your claim for MONTHS.
Better yet, insure yourself. It is not worth the stress of dealing with CUMIS.

Customer Care - Zero!

I paid almost $2k for a loss of employment claim on my vehicle. Simply put, after 60 days of unemployment the claim makes your payments. Turns out, they actually don't. They said my policy is for a partial payment, and it will be received by the creditor 3 payments late, which will damage my credit. So, I will have to keep making payments out of my pocket and how do I get the money back on the double payments? Not their problem, they tell me. And when I spoke to a supervisor, all I got was the standard "that's the way it is" response. I have never dealt with a company that cares so little about protecting a customer for what they paid for.

Cumis is horrible

I’m a healthy 28-year-old girl who bought a house and started my own business. Two years after purchasing my house I experienced increased instability with my left knee. I had a CT scan that showed I had worn down my knee as a massage therapist. I needed immediate surgery bone and ligament reconstruction. Recovery for this was 3 months and then I suffered an infection. I was off for half a year and my doctor communicated with them saying there is no way I could have known I needed surgery. They kept stealing my money and expressed that I should have known about my knee. They are still taking money from me even after signing papers to leave CUMIS. Exhausting horrible experience

Waste of money

Been paying into Cumis since 2013 and broke my back in 2016. I’m still as of today fighting to get my insurance coverage from my 7 months I couldn’t work... Called in January of 2019 to cancel and, then they seemed interested in trying to resolve my claim battle but drag their feet weekly. All I want to do is cancel and save myself $40/ month since I’ve started with new Insurance providers!

7 Months not admitting claim!

They ask for the last 3 years records on you right down to the Chiropractor! Then, say they need to review it to find pages missing from faxes, so need to start all over again! What, you can't read cover letter and count? Till Months later!

I signed up for Cumis Life and Loss of Employment Insurance last year. At the time I had been with my employer for over 9 years with very few complaints. I noticed a shift in management behaviours and opted to insure myself and my family (to help cover mortgage payments) in the event of loss of employment. Sure enough, things went downhill quickly at work, and despite my best efforts to appease my employer, I found myself out of a job. I received a certificate number and summary with a benefit effective date of insurance from Cumis (as well as the premiums benefit amounts etc.) It seemed pretty cut and dry to me; I lost my job after the policy was in place but I was denied as my coverage had not been in place for 60 days prior to losing my job and they refused to pay. Honestly, with 4 kids and a wife counting on me, the last few months have been about as stressful as it gets, and it was clearly a mistake to rely on Cumis for any sort of peace of mind. I would strongly urge anyone considering insuring themselves with Cumis to look elsewhere.

Cumis mortgage disability

This company will do whatever they can to not pay and cancel your mortgage insurance when you need it the most. They are disgraceful and have no integrity or honesty. Don't waste your money and purchase something that you will be able to rely on if you suddenly suffer an illness or injury so that you don't lose your home that you have worked all your life to buy. They will make up lies about you and destroy everything you worked so hard for. They are heartless and brutal. There is nothing fair about them or their processes. They are just after getting their own big bonus cheques for not paying anything out. Purchased the insurance thru Cambrian who now claim they know nothing about the insurance they are selling. What a scam.

Paid life, mortgage, accident insurance. Had an accident and was off work for 3 months and got denied for the claim because I didn't put I have acid reflux on the medical forms

Greedy, unhelpful, corrupt

CUMIS insurance are very happy to take your money, as much of it as they can get their dirty little hands on. But good luck ever completing a claim. Their staff do not communicate, they will arbitrarily close your claim while stating that they "need more information" while no one is ever able to answer what additional information they need. I have attempted to complete a claim for 8 months now, still getting the runaround. These people more than happy to take your money. You'll never see a payout from them, they'll tie you up in red tape.
