I am paying for the highest health insurance plan they have since year one and for the first time I sent my drugs invoices to claim department, which is a basic medication for regular hypertension, but they say that my drugs list is not covered, why? No answer, only told me to contact my area agent, I called him and briefly, he told me that it's not his responsibility!!

Terrible Company

I have never dealt with a company so incompetent and so unwilling to help its customers. I was told that my claim would be paid in 48 hours. After three days, I called to see what the problem was. They said that in fact it would take 5 business days, not 2. When I asked why they sent me an email saying 48 hours, the person on the phone didn't have an answer.

After 6 business days and no deposit into my account, I called again. I verified my banking information, which was correct. They said the best they could do was requisition a direct deposit trace that would take 1-7 days. (One week for a direct deposit trace? That can be done with one phone call to the receiving bank.) After a week and no word from them, I called back. The person on the phone this time told me that a DD trace takes 2-4 weeks. (2-4 WEEKS??? ARE YOU JOKING???) I asked to speak to a manager. The 'manager' didn't have any additional information and wasn't able to help me in the least. I asked if there were any way they could stop payment and issue me a cheque, or if they could please contact their accounting department and have someone call the bank about the DD. No, she said, they can't do any of that...

But you know what the 'manager' WAS able to do? She was able to tell me that in fact a DD trace takes 4-6 weeks. In the same phone call, my wait time went up 2 more weeks. I asked her why the other employees each told me different things (3 people, 3 different stories), and she didn't have an answer.

I still haven't been paid, and still haven't gotten an apology. If you have the luxury of waiting for 6 weeks to get paid, or you're rich and don't care, then by all means you should go with Sun Life. However, if you need medical coverage but you do care about being paid in a timely manner and being treated with courtesy and respect, then Sun Life is definitely not the company for you.

group benefits insurance

I have group benefits through my hospital..In Toronto/ Mississauga area. My goodness what a subpar provider Sun Life Insurance is. My wife and I did co-ordinated benefits for a pair of eyeglasses, and (Manulife) which is my wife's provider paid out their portion with no concerns. Not even one question. Sun Life did not pay out a cent.. they keep sending it around in circles to our Human Resources and then them... for eyeglasses.. no paymnet yet after 4 months.. I pay the benefits and they have not paid out one penny ..not one... when you need them.. for eye glasses... I have had Dejardin, Manulife , Equitable life and even Td Insurance.. and have been around 25 years in social services. Sun Life is the bottom of the barrel. If you are a company like a hospital, non profit agency, private or public company.. this should be the last choice you should make.. Do you want your employees to respect you.? Well then, don't choose Sun Life Insurance as your group provider... saving money does not always pay in the long run for your employee loyalty and or lost time for the HR dept in your agency..

Sincerely

Mike

Worst Customer Service Ever!

My fiancee was insured with Sun Life through her employer and we had a great package (medic, dental, life). When she lost her job, a Sun Life agent contacted her to offer us to continue with the same package but for a higher price which we found worth it. I gave them my credit cart information to activate the coverage.

When we received all our insurance details by mail almost one month after, we realized that we were not getting the same deal, not AT ALL. There is no way we would ever pay what we were paying for that kind of coverage.

We tried to call Sun Life many times and could only leave a voice message, no agents available. They would not even return our calls! We kept trying week after week after week, on a lucky day we would get to an agent who promised that someone more qualified would call us back. Never happened.

In the meanwhile they kept taking payments on my credit card. We also tried by email and kept receiving automatic responses saying they would get back to us in two days... which of course never happened. The last email we received was saying that our cancellation was under review and that it would be processed within 10 open days. 15 open days later, no answer yet and they took another payment on my card.

This is a real joke, I have never seen such a bad customer service. This is close to robbery. If you can get Sun Life coverage with your employer, fine. But never, NEVER deal with them as a private consumer.

You've been warned.

I have not been overly happpy with my agent and feel that he has not always provided concise information or has communicated when the rates have increased.
