I called to add a vehicle to my insurance. OMG!!! It was gonna cost me $283.00/month, more than my already existing car insurance. (One vehicle this would be a second ). I asked why so much, and the way I understood it was because my policy comes due in 4 months I had to pay for the year…. I just bought the car that day. Why do I have to pay for the year? I asked if I renewed how much would it be then, $342.00. Again OMG. I have never paid that much for insurance for my vehicles. My husband and I both have older clean driving records, no speeding tickets, accidents, claims etc. I am feeling so ripped off right now. Believe me when it is time for renewal SONNET is NOT getting my business.
They pride themselves on being an online-only experience, and boy do they stand by that if you ever need support that only cannot offer.
I've actually been berated by one of their client's support people for calling in, wouldn't stop talking about doing it online.
But, it all came to pass when I needed to add another vehicle. I recently changed my credit card and the payment bounced... I promptly updated this.... but! You cannot make policy changes within 14 days, including adding vehicles.
After much arguing, they stated that I can make a payment, and they will make it adjustable online the following day. Yea, that never happened.
I took it as far as messaging the client experience director on LinkedIn as that's ridiculous, considering you need insurance to pick up a vehicle from a dealership. Zero response.
Garbage company.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
I had a chip on my windshield which when I went to get it fixed cracked. Put in the claim to Sonnet and they rejected it. If a meteor or a planet fell out of the sky it would have been covered. I've paid this company over $1,000 every year over the past 10-plus years for this awful claim-free coverage. I also have their home insurance coverage which I have not submitted a claim against either. I will be shopping for a new provider.
I did car insurance with sonnet 102 days ago.
And just canceled it with no hustle. I canceled because I sold my car and I am not getting a new one for the rest of the year for sure.
I had paid the first payment and 2 others (a total $602).
Based on the time with this insurance, I owed $614. (They have a simple table that explains this calculation)
After canceling my fee is missing balance from calculations 614-602 and I got charged $12 as my cancellation fee.
I don’t get what others are doing wrong, why do you have such hate? My experience was as good as it can be.
I have fought with Sonnet for a year over my quote and finally got it sorted. Now I tried to get insurance for my wife and again THEY tried to charge more than double the quote!!! VERY SHADY COMPANY!
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I was excited to write a great review of my experience right into this point. Today I got a call to pick up my claimed car from the auto shop, but they also informed me that I was still expected to pay my $1000 deductible after having been told multiple times that I'm 0% at fault and the deductible will be waived. I tried calling the adjuster three times within business hours and no answer at all. Just overall seems to be negligence and not an experience I would want to risk having again!
After making a claim in June, it was ignored. I emailed multiple times asking for updates and asking what took so long, but they never replied. I sold my car in August and attempted to cancel insurance on August 8th. An adjuster was sent out to look at my car on the 15th! I told them I canceled and I wasn’t happy with paying $500 a month and having a claim ignored. They took my money again on August 24th even though I canceled! Impossible to talk to a human and their phone system is designed to make you hang up. If you do get an adjuster, they hang up on you! The company doesn’t provide services you pay too much money for!!!
I was with Sonnet for 2 years and cancelled due to a better rate with another insurer. When renewal came it said to cancel by June 18th so I cancelled June 16th and paid the month of June for insurance. Good thing I screenshotted that I cancelled my insurance, as I got a notice in the mail saying I RENEWED. While the customer service was friendly, It took multiple emails and over a month for them to get back to me. I had to PROVE I had insurance somewhere else. The entire process was ridiculous. After almost 5 weeks it was stated that it was “sorted” and I would receive 147$ refund in 5-10 business days since July’s insurance amount also came out of my account. 3.5 weeks later I only receive 16$ as a refund and they apologized stating the other 131$ was the “short rate cancellation fee” apparently because I cancelled 2 days before the exact day my policy was up although I already paid for June and they also still took my money for July’s insurance. I am still dealing with this issue. I will NEVER recommend Sonnet insurance.
Do not get Sonnet insurance. They are not there when you need them. They are not cheaper. And if they are cheaper in your case, it's not worth it if anything happens. I will be switching as soon as possible.
Long version:
I have a completely clean driving record and my partner does not and he has cheaper insurance on his car with another insurer than I do with Sonnet.
We were in an accident and the "agent assigned to my claim" was never available, and did not respond to messages. Instead, multiple random individuals (6!) would call out of the blue for information that had already been given to the initial agent. The communication between Economical Insurance and Sonnet is terrible. There is no continuity and they are "not at liberty to discuss the information" the other people have, so basically they can ask you questions but can not answer your questions.
I recently added a home policy to my car. Weirdly, the billing got messed up and instead of the total coming out together, the amounts were deducted separately from 2 different accounts.
One is the regular account where the payments are supposed to come and the other is the credit I used to pay the down payment.
Sonnet wouldn't take payment online or over the phone to fix the issue. Instead, they advised me maybe I should shop for another provider.
So I am. And you know what? I got a better rate.
