I cancelled my insurance back in May 2022 due to a price hike of over $600, they even sent a CONFIRMATION stating my insurance is cancelled.
June 2022 - Sonnet sends me a credit email of $1525, saying my account will be credited?
July 2022 - the $ 1525 was REMOVED from my bank account, even though I no longer have a policy with them??
I called and they said I will get it within 14 days... 14 days pass, and they claim it takes 3-5 days for AN E-TRANSFER to show up. A week passes and still no refund...
Called again, and they said "you should get it in the next few days"... Another week passes...
I filled out an investigation with my bank. The bank says "we got to give them 30 days to respond". 30 DAYS PASS - still no refund!
Now I gotta hire a lawyer! More money out of pocket.
If you sign up with Sonnet, you are a fool. These guys get away with FRAUD.
I already PRE PAID IN FULL for a year and yet they proceeded to take out money for a non-existent policy after I already cancelled it and refused to follow up after several calls. Terrible experience!
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I had been a customer with Sonnet for over 5years!!
With the new implementation of the non-payment of license-plate renewal, I had forgotten to renew my d/license. After the renewal date passed, I was informed that my insurance coverage would be cancelled... I quickly rectified the situation and contacted Sonnet so that all documentation was up to date. I contacted Sonnet several times to find out if my insurance would not be cancelled - forwarding them all updated D/L documentation was up to date. Mind your payment had been taken and was up to date. Everyone of the representatives that I spoke with told me that I should be able to go in and renew my information. Every time I did, I got an error message and was told that they were going to send an email to IT to rectify it... NEVER DID IT GET RECTIFIED...
I was THEN told to wait until the cancellation date and then re-try to renew. Day of cancellation - I tried to update my information, and again I got an error message. The representative that I was working with contacted me and told me that even though I had a long tenure with Sonnet, they would not renew my insurance.
literally on the day of cancellation, I had to change insurance, If I was told this from the beginning I would have changed my insurance. Tenure and good payment with Sonnet have nothing to do with Sonnet. Once they've gotten their money they'll let you go in a heartbeat!
They fought with me overvalue of my Benz. I’m even the person who got rear-ended. If you haven’t done your taxes, they void payouts. Horrible company to deal with. Don't invest in their coverage, it's a scam. My corporation is going to struggle with this insurance company. Really really disappointed with their customer service. If I don't see cheques soon, I’ll switch insurance in October next year.
Everything seemed fine for the first year until it came time to renew the contract. There was nothing wrong with the file but, they provided so much trouble in the renewal process. It was a huge headache and honestly, we had to switch companies because the customer service and IT department were COMPLETELY useless (that is the nicest way to put it).
Sure the initial online policy sign-up process is easy - but that's the only value you get from Sonnet / Economical, as they are the same company. They are severely understaffed in the back office and our claim processing was offloaded to a third-party agency. We are 4 MONTHS into our car repairs saga after car theft, being bounced from 3rd party to 3rd party, given the wrong status and timelines on repairs, having to get to the body shop ourselves to take pictures to show to our adjuster, etc. We should get our car back in 3 weeks, after having had to manage the entire process on behalf of our Insurance provider. 5 MONTHS to get your vehicle back... Dealing with a claim at Sonnet is a nightmare - AVOID AT ALL COST
I have had Sonnet insurance since December of 2021. When I initially went online and provided the information for the quote the result was significantly lower than my current insurance. Accordingly, I decided to switch. Following providing my credit card information the quote previously included no longer showed and the billed amount was nearly doubled. I called and chatted with Sonnet and they mentioned there was a glitch and the amount previously quoted was provided. It took many emails for me to get them to provide the corrected amount in an email however they mentioned the invoice could not be corrected. I kept emailing and chatting with them and following three months the invoice was changed finally but the amount was still incorrect. Following more chatting and further discussions after more than four months the Invoice has now been corrected. I found that some of the customer service staff were exceptionally understandable and wanted to help. I really appreciated their efforts. I will admit there was a couple of other staff were not helpful and despite me providing them my number did not call me back following being disconnected.
If you have perseverance and patience I would suggest the insurance provider. If you don't have these characteristics run away.
I have not filed a claim but when you are dealing with the correct staff for other issues it may not be a quick process but if the best price is what you are after they do provide that.
I had a claim. They would not answer. I keep calling over and over again and got ahold of someone and told them they had that day to get me my rental or I would not be paying the month of my insurance. I got my rental then took forever to hear back from my adjuster which I did and said the same thing. I want to know what is going on with my car? How much you are paying me by the end of the week or once again I will not give you guy money for insurance and I will pay to make sure nothing bounces from my bank account.
I have Sonnet for my tenant insurance and I have 0 complaints on that part. However, I signed up with Sonnet's Auto Insurance a year ago because my job offered a group discount so I saved money and I added coverages. It was great for the first couple of months. When I obtained my Insurance Brokers license, I decided to reduce some of the coverages I no longer needed and somehow that made the price goes up! I thought this was an error on their website because, before even making changes, the website said my policy would increase by $72/year with the selected options. Nothing had changed, there should not be an increase if nothing changed. I called and explained what I was trying to do - assuming their portal was making mistakes - the woman on the phone replied "When you take off coverages, it increases your premium." Absolutely not, that is not how insurance works ever. I then explained to her my knowledge in the matter and informed her that this was a clear issue because it was going to increase without any changes, and she basically said I should know that this is how insurance works and the website is right. It does not. You take off coverages, your rate goes down. You make no changes, your rate stays the same. The only time a premium should increase is if you add coverages or increase your limits. It's very simple but Sonnet clearly wants to take all of the consumer's hard-earned money and hope that lack of knowledge will allow them to do this without being reprimanded. I do not recommend this company ever.
Very poor customer service, no organization. Played games and gave me the run-around and misdirected my calls and gave me wrong emails and wrong employee names while I was trying to get any form of communication going.
