They're rich. Wonder why!

Would not recommend this insurance co. to anybody. They like to have your money but when it comes to claiming something from them, it's the same old story: you got to fight to get what is rightfully yours. Why bother with insurance!!! I had one accident in 47 years. Imagine all the money they got from me. I'm done with this. No insurance for me anymore.

11 months still no settlement

My truck was insured with Economical Ins and in Nov 2017 my truck was stolen from my front yard in South Surrey, a busy street (26 Ave). During that time I was hospitalized and unable to deal with this immediately, so I had my executive assistant file all the necessary claims with RCMP and Economical Ins as to the theft. I relocated to the interior in Dec 2017 in the meantime. Still no resolution, it was a GMC pickup with 195000km, not a Ferrari. An investigator was sent to the interior to interview me for 15 minutes (on policyholders dime). I have been extremely frustrated with the level of professionalism at Economical, their ability to drag their feet over a GMC pickup. Quite frankly it is "comical" that their name is Economical! My next step is to contact the Ombudsperson here in BC as to what are my next steps.

Prices for young driver OK

4.5 out of 5 stars

I have been with Economical for 4 years, saw some rate decreases over those 4 years. We recently added my 17 year old son when he got his G2 and was expecting the worst as far as an increase in payments. I have heard how expensive new male drivers can be. I was pleasantly surprised when my payments only went up by $85 per month! This is affordable!
He is an occasional driver, I'm sure if he had his own car it would be much higher... not ready to go there yet!
No claims experience to comment on, and hoping it stays that way!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Literal scam artists

After trying to set up a policy they changed all the requirements as were at the dealership. On top of that, they quoted us at 3,686 a year and that was with a 30% discount which I might add, she couldn't give us the full original cost before the discount because they don't offer non-discount rates. Called a broker and in 5 minutes he got us a quote for over $700 less with no discounts. I would rate 0 stars if I could. The company with uneducated employees.

Awful

This company is awful. Instead of trying to keep me they decided to increase my monthly rate. No claims with them ever and that's how they say thank you. Now I am trying to cancel the policy.

Car accident claim

by LoveCat on May 28, 2017
5 out of 5 stars

Sept 2016, car accident claim received quick responses and clear instructions from all levels starting from the 1st phone call, all reps were sympathetic and helpful. Documents arrived next day, emails and phone calls got reply the same day, seems to me that staffs worked overtime and did not go home until things are handled. Impressed by the good services.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Much cheaper insurance options

My broker led me to believe that the best rate was with economical. I was with them for almost 3 years before I realized I was getting hosed. Needless to say I dropped my broker and economical and have moved on to much lower rates!

it's my driving record!!!!

by Commercial driver on Apr 25, 2017

Economical insurance only provides commercial driving records to the policy holder, or to their broker. So if you happen to need your driving record be prepared to beg your old boss to contact their broker and pray they eventually send it to you. What a horrible system, do they not realize companies close? And not everyone leaves on good terms? So in order to get my new job I have to get this letter of experience so I have to rely on my old boss who never ever even paid me on time to now be responsible to make this request???? How is that in any a cordage with the privacy act? Thank you economical insurance for high jacking my driving record and putting my future employment in the hands of my sketchy old boss who now won't even return my phone calls... this has to be illegal as its my driving record, I don't understand as the company I applied for broker tried to get it with a form I signed giving them permission to access this letter of experience... now I might as well just a ply for welfare as there is no way my old boss will make this request for me. How is this legal???? How is it protecting my privacy? Now my old employer is holding all the cards and is withholding my personal driving record????? I am contacting a lawyer.

Fast and friendly

I got into a not at fault accident with my company pick up truck, a young kid pulled out infront of me from a side road and I wasnt able to stop in time. I have a small snow plowing and landscaping business. Because it wasn;t my fault they said I would not need to pay any deductible and that everything is covered. They quickly set everything up with my local body shop which was one of their company shops too. The shop gave me a rental but i realised that the rental truck that was provided didn't have a trailer hitch and I couldnt use it for work. I called the adjuster back and explained I need a truck with a hitch for my trailer, otherwise i couldn't pull my trailer with my tools and equipment. The adjuster knew his stuff and said he would arrange a half ton pick up truck just like mine, with a hitch and a bed liner. The adjuster was really friendly and understood that I needed a truck to keep my small business running. The rental company Enterprise, called me within the hour and got me into exactly into the rental I needed, After about two weeks the bodyshop called and told me my truck was ready. I pick up my truck and everything was repaired beautifully. I was able to continue on with my business and life without a hitch. I've been with Economical for 16 years and the one time I got into an accident they really took care of everything and then some. I could't have asked for anything more.

Slow, stressful claim

My car was parked and driver went to get a parking permit while the SUV in front backed into me. It was an obvious who's at fault, no one's even at the driver seat. Reported the accident on weekend and finally got a call back asking for details on Monday. They asked me to bring the car to one of their preferred shop to have it assessed. Took the car in on Thursday, the accident details haven't even been uploaded. I tried to explain what happened. The guy took some pictures, didn't even pop the hood and that's it. Later on, I brought into dealership and other shop for a second look. Because the car hit me was a SUV, the mounting for the light cracked inside. I called Economical about it, they didn't even listen to me and cut me off. Immediately the next day, i decided to fix the car elsewhere. Called the assessment centre and requested an assessment report. The insurance company said it should be uploaded after 48 hours. I dropped off my car and got a rental. After 4 days, the shop called me and told me that they have not yet receive anything. I called in again to find out what happened. For the very first time, that is two full weeks after the accident occured, my adjuster called me. She asked me if I have brought my car in for assessment, which I have already done more than a week ago. I have called in 4 times trying to speak to her but she doesn't have a voicemail for me to leave a message so I was served with other representatives. I'm back to start. Seems like all the calls I've made with other representatives were just useless. She's the decision maker. No notes have been put on and no action was taken to contact the other party. The rental was from my deductible because they need to assess who's at fault. I ended up have to pay for the rental and get my car back from my shop which no work has been performed.
