Zero star - Scam company

I had car insurance with StateFarm, Canada. My car met accident ( reported to police and it was not my fault), since repairing cost was higher state-farm decided to write off my car. Market worth of my car is close to $8500 ( based on kjjiji, canadian black book, auto trader) , but state farm is not ready to pay more than $7800. Their claims people called and trying to negotiate, not understanding that their customer is in loss without any fault.
This company seems full of scam, they know only to take monthly premium money and when customer is in need, they just walk away. Although It was not my mistake in accident, I am on losing money.

Zero star SCAM company

A client of State Farm caused considerable fire damage to our property, and state farm ran us around for 2 years, with low ball offers to settle. When we finally came up with a number just to get this off our backs, they again came up with something lower. While we were thinking about their last offer, they sent us a notification stating we were too late, and that they would not pay anything, for their client's neglect.

They use scam, Con Man style tactics. "Like a Bad Neighbor" State farm will screw you at any opportunity.

Horrible service

I had a small accident which included a windshield damage. The inspector didn't think it was due to the accident and didn't include it in the estimate. I was told I couldn't make an appointment with anybody unless I have an evidence. It was ridiculous. I demanded email communications for any records but they just called me which they actually recorded every time. How is it fair?? They are not reachable. I felt like I was dealing with Rogers' customer service or something. Don't go for State Farm, unless you can prove everything that happens to your car and you!!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

I had one claim with them witch was clearly the other parties fault and I had evidence of it and they ignore it all and refused my claim and said it was 50/50 so no one is covered.. and then they cancel my Policy a few months later with no warning ... bunch of thieves and crooks!

Arbitrary premium increases

by Justin on Oct 30, 2014

I am a Canadian, and was Statefarm's customer for four years. After having a bad experience with a rude, misleading agent at Allstate I was initially relieved to have such a friendly agent and such a great rate on auto insurance when I purchased a policy from Statefarm. After four years of doing business with Statefarm I got a letter in the mail stating that my premium was increasing by 15%, to nearly the same rate I was paying prior to receiving a discount when I reached the age of 25. The letter asked me to call them for further explanation. Since becoming a Statefarm customer I have not received any demerits on my license, made any claims, or had any at-fault accidents.

In preparation for my phone conversation with my agent I gathered some competitive quotes from around the web and called them asking what additional services they planned to offer me to account for the rate increase. The representative responded "none - your plan is the same but your rate is increasing." so I asked "if I give you an assortment of competitive quotes I've received will you price match, or would you prefer to lose my business?". The rep replied "I can't price match", so I have now ensured that my policy will not renew and have secured a new policy with a more competitive broker.

Statefarm should value long-time customers with discounts, but if you purchase an insurance policy from them you should be aware that won't be the case. My agent assured me that this insulting rate increase isn't related to the Desjardins takeover but I'm not convinced, and believe that under Desjardins' ownership you should find a different insurance provider.

Aug2014 Rate Increases for ALL

by Alberta Customer on Aug 12, 2014

I just received my new Redesigned Statement from State Farm and was surprised to see that my auto insurance had increased by $100 per month. It has gone from $1640/annum to $2892/annum! It was explained to me that 'the lawyer found a loophole' and increases are across the board (ie everyone). I did a little internet search and found out that State Farm was sold in January 2014 to Desjardin Group; who are primarily in the United States and associated with Credit Mutuel in France. Is it the $450 million that Desjardin paid that they are trying to recoup from their, now, customers? The policies have not changed and the service has not changed so exactly what HAS changed. I have never had an accident - so I am, at this point, shocked, surprise and supremely unhappy about this.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Would never use again

I had several years of no-claim insurance with Statefarm in Canada, followed by 6 years of no-claim insurance in the UK. When I returned to Canada I was surprised that not only were they slow to return calls, that they would not offer me a quote! Quite clearly I will never use them again for this experience.

Horrible

I have my car insured by the state farm for 2 months
the reason why it is only 2 month long is the mistake of the agent while she process our files, which is OK because people do make mistakes. However, what can not be tolerant is, as we have to re-apply the insurance again, the quote increased from $220/month to 380/month! We tried to ask exactly why this is happening and the response is: due to the cancellation of previous agreement, they will increase the cost of next quote. Which is ridiculous because it is state farm first bring up this issue and stop the insurance by themselves, to be more specific it is their agent's mistakes. Yet, they are cold and did not even willing to discuss this! As a customer this is totally wrong and can not be accept.

Then we switch to TD insurance, with exactly same car and driver. Right now they charge $190/month, and relatively better services. I could't say TD is the best but certainly better than State farm.
