Not good at all

by Neveragain on Jan 12, 2017
1.5 out of 5 stars

From the very beginning this company, sitting in person and on the phone, refused to answer my questions, gave me a quote that was not the actual monthly amount, and had the worst customer service when trying to clarify the increase in monthly charges. The paper statement with both vehicles on it was hard to understand. The agent ignored my questions repeatedly about why I need to be rated and why they need my current policy number and insurance company to remove me as a secondary driver. I'm so angry right now I can't even type well. DO NOT (and i ignored other peoples warnings because I thought maybe it was just them) Do NOT get your policies with State Farm! Stay away from the Barrie, ON branch!

What was good is now gone

Worst company by far. I went to State Farm in 2012 because I had a sports bike and it offered reasonable rates for bikes. The vehicle insurance was a bit more then i was paying but it was worth it at the time. Over the years and especially after Dejardins/Certas took over, rates just increased arbitrarily and service went in the hole. The once great service provided I though was a great agent ,quickly defended the companies actions and left me in the dust. I asked several times through emails to explain what i was paying for and why it was skyrocketing, and received emails saying they really don't know why, they have no one to answer the questions, they cannot give out head office contact, and that I would just have to pay the rates applied. I went back in forth trying to negotiate a better rate and told them I would be shopping around, and the answer was still the same, with my option to cancel. I did cancel and went back to my previous company ( The Personal) where I'm getting twice the insurance coverage on my vehicles and pay about $500 less a year. To End this horrible experience, I just received my renewal notice for my bike with "state farm" (who in fact isn't even state farm) and the fee for this year is $1650, compared to last years $900..... but remember they don't know why.. they don't know how rates are charge, they just make you pay.

Another thing... get some staff with some interpersonal skills... staff that knows how to deal with people, answer questions and rant afraid of the occasional disagreement... i was tossed around 4-5 different agents...

I will be file a BBB complaint, but i still need the insurance untill this friday... SO CLOSE.

Terrible crap service

I have been with State Farm since 1987 and now they tell me because of the postal code my policy will double. How do they come up with these numbers? I'm going to call the BBB today I'm that upset with them. I am supposed to get the super premium discount. Now when I run my profile on other sites my rates are half of what State Farm is charging... so much for loyalty. I'm disgusted with this company. The insurance board mandated lower rates not gouging your loyal customers.

STAY AWAY!

State Farm used to be great that is until they were sold to Desjardins. Now they are the worst out there! Customer service has noticeably been affected and is now terrible, they literally don't care how long you been with them or anything. Myself and my entire family were with them until my rates went up $40 a month even though I just turned 25 and use winter tires. My parents' insurance went up $30 a month and they put another vehicle on, a 2006 Honda Civic and they're paying $170 for it but were only paying $80 for a 1992 Civic last year (when it was still State Farm.) State Farm now claims it is more expensive to insure an older vehicle!!! 2006 is considered old but not just that, how are older cars more expensive to insure when there is less to them, parts are way cheaper and a lot of the safety is still on par to today's standards. This company is going under soon (at least I hope) and I have talked to people and read and you will see people everywhere are leaving State Farm. Do not make the mistake of joining a policy with them.

I have been with them for over ten years ,never a ticket or a claim ...
Tao I began to shop around for a better price and was then informed that State Farm had a at falt code on my record for an accident for others to see but when I got in touch with the again they said "oops we made a mistake "it's been there for 6yrs!!!
Long story short I cancelled!!
I've never been treated so unfairly!!

State Farm goes down the drain

So it does my business with them. Been with them for 19 years, no claim, no accident, nothing, zero, zilch, nada. My car insurance premium just went up almost 15%. Accident free protection is not anymore included (an extra $60 yearly to buy). Asked my agent about all these. Answer: I know you have a stellar driving and claim-free record, but it's a new company, we changed ownership to Dejardins (that includes Certas). Alright, milk somebody else.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Went from great to awful

My family and i have been with state farm for years. Never a problem. However this last two years have been awful for me. I feel forced to leave the company that was once so good. Since certa became part or owners, nothing but mistakes that cost me. If my rate stayed the same month to month, i could budget. With out relying on these people. I called and asked for them to stop the auto pays. I never know when to money will actually come out. They refused. My bank tells me to close the account, and set up a new one. Why should i have to? I would have to change all my other accounts. I am very upset with the person i don't have a choice but to speak to at this company, absolutely useless and uncaring. The snippy comments and lack of empathy. Besides the auto pay issue, they cant get the communication with head office. OR it really is the incompetent office worker. I get bills sent saying the money is due a certain day. Then the money gets taken out whenever. Sometimes i try and pay back when the money is available and they take the payment for the car and put it toward my house?!? Why would i pay the damned house insurance for three months in advance when i had no |€|*[€| car insurance. I asked about it to the moron they have answering the phones at the office and was told they cant transfer the payment or refund me. The last thing that happened was they send me a notice, say i owed x amountp of dollars. On the date due they take DOUBLE. Or tried too. I had the amount in the account but not double. So boom bank hits me nsf charge. Same day, my mortage company tries to ding me for no fire insurance. Seems the company forgot to send the reinstatement to my mortgage company. So THEY tried to charge me for not having insurance. Again had gotten nsf charges. So 90 in charges from my bank because these arses wont even try anymore. I tried explaining. I am on a very limited budget. I need to know how much and when money is due. They wont work with me at all. Now i am shopping elsewhere. So will my family.

Arbitrary premium increases

by Justin on Oct 30, 2014
1.5 out of 5 stars

I am a Canadian, and was Statefarm's customer for four years. After having a bad experience with a rude, misleading agent at Allstate I was initially relieved to have such a friendly agent and such a great rate on auto insurance when I purchased a policy from Statefarm. After four years of doing business with Statefarm I got a letter in the mail stating that my premium was increasing by 15%, to nearly the same rate I was paying prior to receiving a discount when I reached the age of 25. The letter asked me to call them for further explanation. Since becoming a Statefarm customer I have not received any demerits on my license, made any claims, or had any at-fault accidents.

In preparation for my phone conversation with my agent I gathered some competitive quotes from around the web and called them asking what additional services they planned to offer me to account for the rate increase. The representative responded "none - your plan is the same but your rate is increasing." so I asked "if I give you an assortment of competitive quotes I've received will you price match, or would you prefer to lose my business?". The rep replied "I can't price match", so I have now ensured that my policy will not renew and have secured a new policy with a more competitive broker.

Statefarm should value long-time customers with discounts, but if you purchase an insurance policy from them you should be aware that won't be the case. My agent assured me that this insulting rate increase isn't related to the Desjardins takeover but I'm not convinced, and believe that under Desjardins' ownership you should find a different insurance provider.

Just a RUDE RIPOFF now.

I've been with the company for over 12 years, Zero Claims and in last 6 months they raised my monthly by 30%... Called; got lied to "new government regulation in Alberta" and got "we encourage you to shop around"... so be it!

Aug2014 Rate Increases for ALL

by Alberta Customer on Aug 12, 2014
2 out of 5 stars

I just received my new Redesigned Statement from State Farm and was surprised to see that my auto insurance had increased by $100 per month. It has gone from $1640/annum to $2892/annum! It was explained to me that 'the lawyer found a loophole' and increases are across the board (ie everyone). I did a little internet search and found out that State Farm was sold in January 2014 to Desjardin Group; who are primarily in the United States and associated with Credit Mutuel in France. Is it the $450 million that Desjardin paid that they are trying to recoup from their, now, customers? The policies have not changed and the service has not changed so exactly what HAS changed. I have never had an accident - so I am, at this point, shocked, surprise and supremely unhappy about this.
