State Farm is known for their outrageously high rates for auto insurance. I have also had multiple issues with them trying to cancel my policy and dealing with their employees. They really need to work on customer service experiences and adjust prices. I do not recommend ANYONE to try State Farm. I cannot wait for automated cars to take over these streets and State Farm goes under.
I had a bad experience with that company. I used their car insurance for my car for less than 2 months. Then I sold my car, I called that company to cancel the policy. They cancelled the policy but charged me 38 dollars extra besides 2 months payment. When I started the policy, I asked the agent: “Is there any cancellation fee or any other extra fees if I decide to cancel my policy in the future? “. And the agent answered me: “No, only pay for the period that you use our service, no extra fees”. I checked the contract if there were mentioned any hidden fees. But found only monthly payments, nothing else. So I called the company and asked what is 38 dollars for. The representative couldn’t able to answer me. Representative nor the agent who did my car insurance had information about 38 dollars. The representative wrote to me “38 dollars is an endorsement fee” in a couple of days later. I asked them why they didn’t mention that fee to me at the beginning. He told me that neither he nor the agent who did my insurance policy had information about that and it was their mistake. I told them I don’t want to pay them because of their mistake. Nobody mentioned that fee at the beginning, there was nothing mentioned about that fee at our contract, also even representatives of the company had no information about that fee. That guy kept on telling me that he understands that it is their mistake, but their billing department doesn’t listen to them. He asked me to come to their office in the future and he is going to compensate for that mistake in other ways. For me, it doesn’t matter it is 38 dollars or 1000 dollars. I just don’t want to pay for other’s mistakes. I don’t want to visit their office in the future nor don’t recommend that company to anybody else.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Bad customer service change of companies constantly and change your renewal dates every time so it’s almost impossible to change to another computer. I would never use it again or recommend it to anyone.
I had been a State Farm auto insurance customer for over 30 years. My agent retired in 2016 and was replaced by someone else, in another location office. When I called recently about possible reduction of my combined auto/home insurance, they had no information on file except my name and address. I may as well of just walked in off the sidewalk. All I got were excuses, "oh our system is being updated" ... you should call us when you got news your agent was retiring.." No mailed material indicated I should contact them at renewal time. When I indicated that I was the customer and they should contact me - they said "do you know how many customers that would be and how long that would take?" I was laying over $200/month and found another provider who'd save me $600 a year compared to State Farm. Then I made the mistake of contacting my agent again requesting HR amount charged if I were to cancel all of my policies before renewal. They told me to "contact our head office in Quebec", they gave me the underwriters contact information?! Even the underwriters said who told you to contact us? And they contacted my agent. State Farm never offers discounts even when you call them. Ask them to match a competitor and they will not. Given the amount of money I'd spent with State Farm for 3 decades, they couldn't have turned out worse. Go to any other insurance provider rather than State Farm.
I was given a policy only to have it cancelled due to a ticket on my licence that I told the broker About! Then I was charged $1278 for six weeks of insurance when I agreed to pay $465/month. I was misrepresented and ripped off. The worst experience ever!!!
Since going to Certas, my experience with State Farm has continued to decline. My SF agents are great as always, but it seems that they too, are feeling the strain.
Rates have climbed, and for me (perfect record) are now about 30% more than the competition. The straw that broke the camel's back however is the fact that I can't pay on line nor can I even get to a website with my info on it. Folks, it's 2017 for crying out loud. On top of all that, I was late with a payment (I was out of the country when it came and didn't see the expected online notification because, guess what, there wasn't one) So they charged me 50 dollars to reinstate a policy.
Needless to say, I'm looking elsewhere, and you should be too.
It started out great but quickly went downhill. The customer service was horrible - getting answers from my agent of his assistant was like pulling teeth. And when I called the 1-800/1-877 numbers, they were no help either. Every month I'd get a notice in the mail saying my monthly amount changed, and there would be no heads up or explanation as to why. I would contact my agent and he would give me roundabout answers that didn't actually answer anything. At one point he promised the monthly rate wouldn't change until my renewal date, and sure enough the following month I received another rate change notification. Unbelievable. When I cancelled my policy I received a bill for an outstanding balance. Do you think this notification would tell me what the charges were for? NO! So once again, I emailed my agent to ask for details around the charge - what was it for, how was it calculated, etc. His answer was just that it was a cancellation fee for cancelling before my renewal date. I couldn't find any documentation or literature outlining a cancellation fee, so I inquired about that and the assistant's response was "there's always a cancellation fee" - wow, thanks for your help - useless! All I ever wanted, was information regarding my payments - I don't make payments blindly and would like to know what I'm being charged for. Is that too much to ask? Cancelling State Farm is the best decision my husband and I made. Stay away! For reference, our agent was located in Guelph, ON
I've been with the company for over 12 years, Zero Claims and in last 6 months they raised my monthly by 30%... Called; got lied to "new government regulation in Alberta" and got "we encourage you to shop around"... so be it!
mistakenly they start to charge me more then they should. they didn't refund me overpayment in 2 months so I cancel insurance. they charge me a monthly payment fee for cancelation! they charge $20 for address change. I couldn't expect this in my worst imagination.
You need to call million times in order to cancel the insurance, plus the rate is pretty high, customer service is so bad, I will tell everyone I know to stay away from this insurance company
