Good Neighbour Gone Bad

by Sinder Sparks on Nov 29, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

I have been a customer for 20 years, everyone in my family had insurance through them, and for many years, they were solid and worth a bit higher rates for good service and no hassle claims. Not anymore, they are not State Farm, they just use that name with nothing to go behind it. My payments have changed slightly out of the blue a few times through the year, but this month I had to pay $100 more for my monthly insurance bill!! I called and I am told I should have been given a statement showing me the changes. Not so~! As a single mother, I am very careful to make my budget and it is down to the penny paycheque to paycheque but I pay my bills and live as I can with what I earn. Now I have no money for Christmas!!! I need proper notice of increases, an explanation to justify the increase and affordable coverage that is consistent in cost. There is NO justification for the increase of $1200 a year!!! *- home/auto/life -broker contacted, they have lost a good customer and someone who once called them a friend and neighbour.

StateFarm

CALL AVIVA! If only there was a 0-star option available for State Farm... After 12 years of being a loyal State Farm client, it is clear that the level of service has dropped significantly since they were purchased by Desjardin. For years I would listen to horror stories and defend their service based on one claim nearly 10 years ago that I felt was handled very well. This year I had a boat claim that was not handled well by the claims department and decided to change providers. For whatever reason, when I asked that they put a note on my account to not renew policies (6 in total), they stopped withdrawing the premiums from my account and then sent a letter stating I owed cancellation fees. After only receiving one notification about the amount owed, they put me into collections for $167.00 when I have never once in 12 years been late to pay. Call Aviva... I had no previous policies with them and they provided better rates and coverage on all of my policies.

Complaint

I had a bad experience with that company. I used their car insurance for my car for less than 2 months. Then I sold my car, I called that company to cancel the policy. They cancelled the policy but charged me 38 dollars extra besides 2 months payment. When I started the policy, I asked the agent: “Is there any cancellation fee or any other extra fees if I decide to cancel my policy in the future? “. And the agent answered me: “No, only pay for the period that you use our service, no extra fees”. I checked the contract if there were mentioned any hidden fees. But found only monthly payments, nothing else. So I called the company and asked what is 38 dollars for. The representative couldn’t able to answer me. Representative nor the agent who did my car insurance had information about 38 dollars. The representative wrote to me “38 dollars is an endorsement fee” in a couple of days later. I asked them why they didn’t mention that fee to me at the beginning. He told me that neither he nor the agent who did my insurance policy had information about that and it was their mistake. I told them I don’t want to pay them because of their mistake. Nobody mentioned that fee at the beginning, there was nothing mentioned about that fee at our contract, also even representatives of the company had no information about that fee. That guy kept on telling me that he understands that it is their mistake, but their billing department doesn’t listen to them. He asked me to come to their office in the future and he is going to compensate for that mistake in other ways. For me, it doesn’t matter it is 38 dollars or 1000 dollars. I just don’t want to pay for other’s mistakes. I don’t want to visit their office in the future nor don’t recommend that company to anybody else.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Worst company ever

Worst company ever, there’s a reason they have so many bed reviews. They lie and tell you something different every time you call. They over charge and over sell. Try to tell you have have to have life insurance so you buy more forgetting to tell you the true reason is they are on commission.

No communication, renewal dates consistently change with notice. Rates are higher then most companies. Went to cancel and magically my dates had changed, even tought I never moved or changed my policy.

Bad customer service change of companies constantly and change your renewal dates every time so it’s almost impossible to change to another computer. I would never use it again or recommend it to anyone.

This company is disgusting

Poorest customer service. They just need your money. They will lie, lure you into the policy and once you are in, they do not care about you. No 1 ranking for unethical company. Do not provide pre-authorization to your account. They take your money without your notice even after you complain and try to cancel their insurance. Customer complaint center has no authority over anything. Only thing you get out of this insurance company is, mental agony and, if you have an issue, both agents and customer care will listen to you, talk and do nothing about it.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
