Worst company

1.5 out of 5 stars

Had a bad experience when I tried to put my car in storage and keeping only fire and theft coverage. Since state farm is bought out by Certas insurance, their new guideline does not allow customers to delete collision and liability insurance when putting a car in storage. I was told that I would only save $12 off my $149 monthly premium. My friend is only paying $7/month for putting his car in storage with another insurance company. It makes no sense because my car sits in my garage at home and I am not driving it! The risk is reduced significantly but the premium is not. This is totally an unfair practice just to keep to make the insurance company money. I am forced to keep my collision and liability coverage because" if I get hit by another car as a pedestrian or passenger, I am covered by my auto policy"...that's complete BS. I will be covered first by my own health and disability insurance through work (it precedes my auto policy according to state farm's policy). I can also access the other driver's liability insurance. Why do I need to pay state farm to cover me? what risk are they covering? worst company ever. The agent's assistant even told me "no one will be able to help you. there is no phone number you can call". Will never recommend this company. I am going to recommend family and friends to switch company too if they are insured with state farm.

Not good at all

From the very beginning this company, sitting in person and on the phone, refused to answer my questions, gave me a quote that was not the actual monthly amount, and had the worst customer service when trying to clarify the increase in monthly charges. The paper statement with both vehicles on it was hard to understand. The agent ignored my questions repeatedly about why I need to be rated and why they need my current policy number and insurance company to remove me as a secondary driver. I'm so angry right now I can't even type well. DO NOT (and i ignored other peoples warnings because I thought maybe it was just them) Do NOT get your policies with State Farm! Stay away from the Barrie, ON branch!

What was good is now gone

Worst company by far. I went to State Farm in 2012 because I had a sports bike and it offered reasonable rates for bikes. The vehicle insurance was a bit more then i was paying but it was worth it at the time. Over the years and especially after Dejardins/Certas took over, rates just increased arbitrarily and service went in the hole. The once great service provided I though was a great agent ,quickly defended the companies actions and left me in the dust. I asked several times through emails to explain what i was paying for and why it was skyrocketing, and received emails saying they really don't know why, they have no one to answer the questions, they cannot give out head office contact, and that I would just have to pay the rates applied. I went back in forth trying to negotiate a better rate and told them I would be shopping around, and the answer was still the same, with my option to cancel. I did cancel and went back to my previous company ( The Personal) where I'm getting twice the insurance coverage on my vehicles and pay about $500 less a year. To End this horrible experience, I just received my renewal notice for my bike with "state farm" (who in fact isn't even state farm) and the fee for this year is $1650, compared to last years $900..... but remember they don't know why.. they don't know how rates are charge, they just make you pay.

Another thing... get some staff with some interpersonal skills... staff that knows how to deal with people, answer questions and rant afraid of the occasional disagreement... i was tossed around 4-5 different agents...

I will be file a BBB complaint, but i still need the insurance untill this friday... SO CLOSE.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

They are incapable of contacting their own client's, what does indicate about there competency of the company?

I believe all insurance company's are the same, Since insurance is a legal requirement there is no need for them to be anything other than a warm body in front of a computer.

Can we rate them less than 1 star as that would be an accurate rating.

anything but StateFarm

After 10 years with StateFarm with all family cars + house + life we are leaving and never going back. Enough. It is not a StateFarm as we use to, it is Certas now and it is terrible. Just as one example: it may only be insurance company where you cannot reach an agent, we had about 10 days, numerous voicemails and they (agent office ~5 people) never call back!!! To make it better StateFarm does not provide any other contact (unless it is a claim), everything must go through the agent and agent is not answering! Ok, it is only one example and we had more and more of that. On the other side bills rocketing up non-stop. Every time it is more to pay. Pay for what? We are fed up and cannot even say “good bye StateFarm” because nothing is good as it was.

Avoid Statefarm at all cost!

Horrible adjusters, took forever to open a claim, gave way below market value for car. Rental wasn't given until 4 days after the accident and was taken away immediately after settlement. Wouldn't even reimburse for brand new tires and mechanical work that I had done a week before accident. All I got was a lame excuse as to why they can't reimburse and it was part of the total evaluation of the car. Please save yourself the hassle and get a better insurance company

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Worst Insurance Company ever

Please do not insure your car with this company. They are absolutely horrendous. I filled a claim and they low balled the price of my car way below market value. The adjuster was an absolute nightmare and the service I received was terrible. When I asked to speak with a supervisor I received the run around. Please choose your insurance provider wisely...Statefarm is NOT a wise choice. I wish they had the option to add negative stars. I was not at fault, I cant image them treating me any worst then they did.....

Do not deal with State Farm

My name is Martin W. I live in Fort McMurray. I have an impeccable driving record. I have been with State Farm for over five years and never had a claim or speeding ticket. My vehicle was hit while I was parked in the Peter Pond Mall in Fort McMurray. There was NO liability on my part. It was only minor bumper damage. The other driver went out of his way to find me and admitted liability. His company (the Cooperators) were more customer oriented and accommodating to me than my own insurer, and I was more than accommodating as a client of State Farm than they have been to me. State Farm recommended Londonderry Collision in Edmonton, which was a drive and hotel stay away for me (450 km one way!) I had to go down twice on my own dime because State Farm had the quote for the damage in hand, and assured me that it would be approved by the time I got to Edmonton, but it wasn't. So I had to drive to Edmonton from Fort McMurray TWICE! When I booked the rental car for the duration of the repairs, I told the State Farm claims office that I would not be able to get down to pick up my car on the day it would be fixed because I work rotating 6 on 6 off shifts, and I'm WAY UP NORTH. The claims adjuster for State Farm, even after hearing my explanation of my particular situation and WHY I couldn't just leave my job on a whim and drive 450 km, said she wouldn't approve the additional days. Guess where we are with this now? Its going to our respective lawyers...for a measly two or three hundred dollars of car rental fees!! I would not recommend State Farm and am in the process of finding another insurance company.

Insurance cancellation

by Claudia on Jul 7, 2016

It is very disappointing that I was told I would get part of my car insurance back when in fact State Farm pocketed all the money. They are a very dishonest company. If they had bothered to explain about the new policy it wouldn't have made sense for me to just asked for an extra 5 day coverage. How disappointing to have been a client for years to have such poor customer service in the end. They lied and then simply didn't care.

Find Another Company

My daughter was involved in a collsion when a piece of a transport truck broke away and flew into her car while on the highway. we had difficulty with State Farm from the onset. There is no customer service with this company and the adjusters we had to deal with were rude. When this claim closes we will be moving onto a different company. Anyone can be better then State Farm.
