The premium is always up for no reason even if you don't have any claim. If you have a claim, then it's even worse.
Honestly. Just don't do it. The worst experience I've ever had. Sending the claim online is easy, everything else is an uphill battle that will find you hella broke from paying for everything out of pocket while waiting for this company. They ignored all attempts at contact from the auto body shop, myself, and my chiropractor. After almost a month (yes, 3+ weeks) of trying to get a hold of someone (their claim adjusters don't answer your calls and never return messages), I was told that they didn't have a record of my claim (although I received email confirmation that my claim was received and approved). When I asked for the contact information for the manager and director, they got sketchy and did not want to provide that information to me. It took another lifetime for them to send out an adjuster to the body shop and get me a rental car. I'm still waiting for a call back from the claims adjuster and management... Honestly, do NOT get insurance from this company. Just don't do it. This company doesn't even deserve 1 star. If I could give less than 1, I would.
I've been with the Personal for the last 11 years. No changes in address, no claims, nothing...and suddenly this year JUST a 10% increase in my premium ...of course with some lame reasons...they have to pay claims because there are a lot of distracted drivers on the roads ...and so on...I don't remember me as being a part of the сompany profit and loss sharing... This has to STOP... One star rating is a little too much ..but I cannot put 0 or go in minus...
Do you want to experience an official criminal activity? You got it. Get an insurance with the Personal and try to process a claim. I had 3 consecutive worst experiences. They lie to you. They will never process your claim. Update incorrect records. Not provide you with a rental car. Not send an estimator as promised. Blame you for everything. Long wait times. Repeat the same story to different people when you call... Move out to anyone who can do better as I am doing now...
I've been insured with The Personal for several years now. Originally it was only auto but eventually added home too. My first claim was for my car after it was sideswiped overnight. I filed a report with the police and had to do some legwork on my own to track down the vehicle and driver that was responsible. DO NOT be lazy when you're filing a claim, no one cares about your own money as much as you do. I had a bad rep from the Personal who would not return calls, and after 3 weeks of going back and forth this agent went on vacation and I was lucky enough to speak with one of his colleagues. Within one day of speaking to this new agent, my claim was filed and everything was taken care of. With any business, there are going to be some bad apples and although the first agent was awful, the second one made up for it. I think in general all insurance companies are going to make it difficult for you to get your money back but The Personal did come through for me in this instance. If anyone knows of an insurance company that lets you file a claim easily and works with you instead of against you, please let me know, I'd be grateful. The fact that this got resolved and I got my money back/rental paid and was able to engage with a competent agent (the second one) is enough to give this company a positive review.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
The most horrible experience when I tried to cancel my policy. Highly disappointed. Agents don't know how that cancellation fee is being calculated. Spent 2 hours with 5 different agents and no one had any idea why $120 is being charged. Next day an agent called me and did some math which made absolutely no logic. No respect for the customer, no explanation. I was with this insurance company for 2.5 yrs but this doesn't matter to them at all. Other Insurance company provided a better policy at a much cheaper rate and no charges on cancellation if I stay with them for 1 month. (With Personal I was for 2.5 yrs...)
I've had my cars (truck and wife's car), a motorcycle, and my home with them for the past 6 years. Every year you kind of expect a small increase, and they were never more than 1%. However, this year on the renewal, it jumped 11%. No claims and no change to driving records. I ditched for Johnson's insurance. Auto was the same but house ins. was $400 cheaper with better flood coverage even.
I was happy until there was a claim. I was unlucky to have two back to back incidents and opened my eyes to how big of a scam artists these guys are. They lie, they don't want to pay, constant battle. As soon as these claims are closed, I am switching. Don't fall for their cheap rates.
I have been insured with the Personal for about 20 years. I was always extremely happy with their service until recently and have had 2 bad experiences just in the past year that have made me seriously think of looking elsewhere. First, my husband was considering purchasing a new vehicle and cost was a real issue. We contacted the Personal and were quite happy with the amount they quoted us and this was literally the deciding factor in purchasing the car. Fast forward 4 months to our policy renewal and the premium has increased by $100 a month with no changes in the policy. The second issue is with our homeowner's policy. We had damage to our roof after a windstorm in May. Their contractor took almost 3 weeks to tarp our roof after not showing up twice when they were supposed to. It was like pulling teeth to get a copy of their quote for the damage and the copy I was sent from the Personal is more than $400 less than the quote I was given by their contractor. The claims adjuster paid out the claim at an even lower amount and when questioned, he says that their “review” team must have determined that some of the repairs are not required but cannot give me details. It is now August and still have a tarp on the roof and repeated emails and voice messages to the claims adjuster, over the past 4 weeks have had no response. Not impressed to say the least!
Three weeks ago I was in a collision with a woman (her fault) whose insurance provider is The Personal Insurance Company. My Insurance company contacted them twice and I've called them 6 times, and no one will call me back. I know I have a claim number and an adjuster, but they won't contact me. The woman, who hit me, reported the claim to them the next day. Do they figure I'll just give up if they don't call me?
