Signing up with The Personal Insurance company is the biggest regret of my life. If you ever have a fraudulent claim submitted against you, do not expect this company to use common sense or help you fight the claim at all, even if it is well documented and completely obviously a fraud. My representative refused to help me at all, gave me scripted answers, refused to answer pertinent questions, refused to pass me onto a manager of any sort. Once the situation was finally escalated to someone higher, I asked that communication between us be documented via email so that I had a paper trail - that manager stated that they do not provide email communication and told me they would only speak to me over the phone. I'm facing a major increase in my premiums, but The Personal Insurance wants to operate via he-said-she-said. A quick Google search shows very low ratings and a recent lawsuit they lost. Honestly, go with a better company even if the rates are a little higher - at least your insurance (which affects quite a bit of your life) will be in competent hands and you can avoid this kind of nightmare.
I was hit by another driver who was on his cell phone. Because I'm the only one that saw him and the way the cars were parked, my insurance went up. It went up 600 percent! That's right 600 percent. I cancelled right away. And pay 1/2 the price I was paying with them before the accident.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Recently, I moved to a different "zone" that was apparently at a higher risk than what they were willing to insure. I figured that was what insurance was for... but I guess not. When I attempted to make the adjustment to update my address I was contacted by a representative who explained this to me. So despite I have been paying their company for 5 years, I was informed they would no longer insure me. I was also informed I had 10 days to get insurance before they would end my coverage. I was able to get coverage through a different agency for a significant amount less than what I had been paying. It has been 2 cycles now where they have billed me despite my coverage having been cancelled... by them. I contacted them the first time to get a letter indicating their mistake in case my bank required it. They sent this to me, which shows their mistake. Now I have to phone back a second time to correct their error, despite all of this being an issue that they created. Additionally, my payments continued to increase over time, despite I haven't been in any accidents. Needless to say, not overly impressed.
A truck cut my vehicle off and while doing that he hit my car. Personal Insurance did nothing but making it more painful for me. First, they gave me a 50% at fault as they were too lazy to review the pictures and statements. Then I followed it up and said no way I will accept that. They eventually had me 0% at fault and now that I went to change my insurance to a new company there is a 50% at fault in the experience report which increases the price by 30%! I am fed up with Personal Insurance. The agent taking care of my claim was confrontational, brutal to deal with and just simply incompetent. I am trying Inova now and hope that it will be better.
I would give 0 stars if I could. I have been insured with The Personal for 4 years now and they increased my rate by 27%/$40 per month because of a minor speeding ticket I received 2.5 years ago (first and only conviction). When I called to find out why the increase was so steep, the broker actually told me I should be grateful that the ticket was only discovered now and began listing a number of factors as to why else my premium increased. The most ridiculous one was that because I drive such a common vehicle and there are many of them on the road; there's a higher % chance that the same make & model would be involved in an accident. I shopped for better rates and found 2 companies offering a cheaper rate than I am currently paying (Costco & Sonnet). When I called The Personal to see if they could match my quote they said "No." and offered absolutely nothing to keep me as a customer. Absolutely terrible customer service, especially towards a loyal customer.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
TERRIBLE! Customer Service experience over the phone. The guy I talked to was very rude over the phone and didn’t even make sense of what he was saying. I did a modification on my auto insurance a month ago. I added my Mercedes and removed Nissan Sentra from my auto insurance. I was paying 136/month for Nissan Sentra and a month ago they said if I have both of vehicle on insurance, I would pay 340/month but I just went with only Mercedes for 283/month. A month later now when I called back to add my Sentra onto the insurance, the guy said they would charge me 405/month for both vehicles. He raised the price of my insurance by $65/month just in a month. When I asked him to talk to a manager and the response was “there are no managers working on Saturday and I need to call back on Monday" which is ridiculous. Terrible experience!!!
I have been with The Personal since 2008, (for my 2001 used Cav I was paying $190) I had purchased a new vehicle in 2014 and because I was financing I needed full coverage and replacement coverage. I was paying $200 a month. I thought that was pretty standard, however over this year my insurance went up to $224, which I didn't think anything of because it just came out, but I had to call them in regards to them lowering my insurance. They told me they could go as low as $210 if I got rid of the replacement coverage, so I asked why I got a quote online they were saying much less (I know it is just a quote, however, they were quoting $117 with no discounts). I have never had a claim or accident since I got my licence in 2008, nor have I had any tickets in the last 5 years to warrant my increase in the insurance. The woman on the phone was very rude as I tried to have her explain to me why she can't lower my insurance rate, even with lower coverage. She told me $210 is as low as it'll get for my insurance and good luck finding somewhere else that is lower, and that it wouldn't be smart to cancel. I cancelled my insurance policy with her right then, effective March 1st and she tells me on top of the cancellation charge I will have to pay for March... um, no, I do not. I understand that $210 might be low for some people but I am now with a company who gives me the coverage I need for $90 a month. I would have responded better had the woman on the phone tried to help me and offer me a reason for my payments being so high and why they had increased my payments over the last year for no reason, and if she was willing to work with me for a policy that fit my budget or at least tried to offer me some help. Overall so rude and unhelpful, especially as I have never had to make a claim for anything since I've been with them, you would think having a clean driving record since 2008 when I was 16 my payments could be lowered, and if I was missing something in regards to my driving record, I would have appreciated a reason as to why they couldn't lower it.
I have been a customer at The Personal insurance company for 4 years. I never had an accident or any kind of tickets and never claimed for anything regarding my vehicle. According to other insurance companies, I am a 6 start driver with 15 years of driving experience. I just noticed that The Personal company decided to increase my monthly payment by 30$ a month for no reason. Signing the renewal is now paperless and I didn't check the email that they sent me last month for renewal or I would never renewed my contact with this company again.
TERRIBLE customer service and prices. Stay away!!! Tried to switch my home insurance over as I was paying significantly more than other companies were offering, plus had lower coverage with The Personal. Was told that I can’t switch 'cause they changed companies and if I did, my auto insurance would significantly go up. Absolutely terrible experience with this company. Nothing the person on the phone was telling me was making any sense as compared to letters I had gotten in the main etc. from this company.
