Great experience

I have been with this Insurance company for 25 years. My husband had an accident with our new SUV. The entire experience with Wawanesa was excellent. They arranged for us to have a car for the week our vehicle was in the garage. They suggested a garage even though we could have chosen any garage we wanted and they did a great job. The vehicle came back to us exactly as it had looked in the showroom. I have absolutely no issues with Wawanesa at all.

Greedy insurance.

I was in an accident other drivers fault. They offered me the money, but not because they were "good" insurance but because they would raise my monthly payment meaning I would pay more (going up by 50%). I had to use my money to pay for my car so they would not raise my monthly payment. Conclusion this insurance dose not care about what happens to your car they just want more money. Horrible insurance.

Why even pay for insurance

I was backed into while I was in a meeting. My shop kept my car for three whole months and when I finally got it back half the ordered parts weren’t even on my car, barely any of the damage was actually fixed and they refuse to do anything. They paid the shop a month and a half before I even got my car back and now they’re telling me to take it up with the shop. No one I call from there will budge to figure out a fair solution all because someone backed into me while I was in a meeting.

Terrible Avoid like the plague

Had my Truck Stolen recently. The claims process was an absolute nightmare, the adjuster felt her only role was to watch from the sidelines and deny expenses, not helping me through the process, no consultation, no helping deal with the Autobody shop, could not even reach her by phone. Always had to e-mail. My truck was gone for 3 months for repair and came back with a list of issues that I needed to "deal with through the Autobody shop" or fix myself. I was paying insurance for 2 specific reasons 1)to get me back to the place I was before the event 2)to have a helping hand when I did have an issue Instead I got a distant accountant. When I asked to dispute claims items that decided by her with no agreement or consultation with me, I was told here's our dispute mechanism- hire your own appraiser and they can fight it out with ours. Good luck making that work for you. By the way the Appraiser was also terrible, the shop evaluated that my truck needed a batch of Front end work that it did not need (have pics to prove), instead of maybe actually taking a look he just reported to the adjuster only and they agreed to disallow the work meaning no mechanical work was done at all. I got back a truck with a large list of repairs and less functionality. On top of that, I have to deal with the shop warranty process with no help. Stay away from this company!

Horrible Customer Service

by Disappointing customer on Jul 21, 2017

We had the worst experience with Wawanessa due to the agent who was handling the claim. Her name is Sue and she should not be in customer service. Claim was not at fault, the other party's insurance should cover all the costs so we would expect that for the services we are paying, the agent would get on the job and make the arrangements. Sue failed to do so, my husband missed work because the rental wasn't arranged, we ended up taking the car in to the nearest shop and ended up paying for HST. No one explained how this works, what happens if...we felt like hiring a lawyer to have him/her work for the other party using our money. We are looking for another company. Company should provide customer service courses for agents like Sue...but from what I am reading about the company...I don't think anyone cares...

Horrible claim experience

I was going to hold off on writing a bad review, but after yesterday's experience I have had enough. I was in an accident a few months ago where I was making a right hand turn and was hit by someone who switched lanes in the intersection. Right from the start I experienced awful and callous customer service. My adjuster told me in our initial call that I was probably at fault; this was before she even looked into my case. I was never given any information on how to get a rental car while my car was in the shop. After a week of her ignoring my phone calls and emails, I called her supervisor to complain. He was surprised that I hadn't received a rental car and promptly ordered me one (though that wasn't supposed to be his job).

About a month after the accident I got my car back. However, the body shop or the appraiser hadn't done their due diligence and I found out the hard way that my radiator was broken and had not been assessed and fixed properly. So back to the shop it went. At the time, the shop told me it should have been a write off.

Fast forward a few months and the transmission line popped off, leaving me stranded in a parking lot. The body shop again said the car should have been a write off but paid to have the problem fixed.

Yesterday my car died AGAIN, and I think it's due to the transmission damage caused by all the fluid leaking at once. I now have a car that is not driveable in the middle of a cold snap. It's so fun walking to the bus stop. I should mention that I never heard from Wawanesa after they approved the initial repair on my car. I had to find out from a broker at State Farm that I was declared 100 percent at fault for the accident.

A loyal customer for 10 years, with this being my first ever claim, and this is how I was treated. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from Wawanesa. The money you save on your monthly insurance will all be spent on keeping your car on the road after you make a claim with them!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

I was in a no fault accident.

I was struck by a driver no fault to my own., My vehicle had 55% total damage. Wawanesa stated my vehicle is deemed repairable. It took the shop they recommended over 30days to repair the vehicle given the extent of the damage. Even the shop repairing the vehicle suggested the vehicle be a write off. I was dealing with an adjuster who had me bring the vehicle to and from the dealership for additional repairs, to the point where the dealership no longer wanted to service the vehicle. I had made a list of issues with vehicle after the repairs to find out that A. i will not receive a rental vehicle for those repairs, and B. the repairs needed will be review to determine if accident related. My vehicle is a year old what else could of caused structural issues to the vehicle other then the accident.

Bad Claim, Switching Providers

by Nice People With Bad Luck! on Nov 1, 2014

I have had auto insurance with Wawanesa for 12years without any claims. I was rear ended by another driver at a red light and had experienced major damage on our car. Our car was then sent to the repair shop where it was hit by hail. We had phoned the claim in to the adjustor for the rear end damage and she opened a new claim for the hail damage. The hail claim was handled by another adjustor but we communicated to both adjustors that we would like to combine both claims and either take a cash payout or write the car off (we own the car 100% with no liens). The rear end damage was $11,000 and the hail damage was $5,000 on a $20,000 car. Wawanesa communicated to us that the repair shop had to have our approval to repair the car and once assessed by the repair shop we could decide to take the payout. The repair shop proceeded without approval and Wawanesa would not write the car off at that point or give a cash payout even though the repair shop admitted to proceeding with no approvals from either us or Wawanesa. The hail claim has not been repaired yet and it has been 3 months since the damage. Now we have received a letter retracting our insurance for non payment even though we have not received an invoice from Wawanesa since our last scheduled payment that we paid in full. They have forgotten to invoice us, my parents and my friends in the past and have sent them the same letters due to issues with Wawanesa's administration system. It seems like they are tired of our claim and want to drop us as customers even though we were not at fault for any of our claims and all of the mistakes have been made on their side. They had apologized to us for the issues handling the claims but now with the letter dropping our insurance it seems like they don't want to deal with us. We were always very professional in our dealings with Wawanesa and the at fault insurance company has been very good to deal with. (Intact Insurance). We are now changing insurance providers.

Car high premiums than quote

by Hell or High Water on Jun 25, 2014

Car hit by another person in August, insurance did not try to get us top dollar for car, they also declared salvage status on car before we settled and it was still road worthy? Can you say bargaining in bad faith, forced us to take off road and get another vehicle out of pocket right away before settled in Nov 2013, eventually got paid more than offered but the tactic of declaring car as salvage status when road worthy was ludicrous... why no class action law suits yet baffles the mind.

They eventually come up a $1000 from what they said and let us keep the car in end as salvage which was better than what we were first offered which was at least $1500 below market value even with higher kms, have not sold car as salvage yet, but should get $1200, so made out better in end than if I had sold on market wholesale, but not if I had accepted their low offer to start with!!

Son was quoted about $125 per month, after he asked them to check his grid level due to tickets and a suspension, they claimed he did not divulge everything, then took out three months of premiums out of his account in one shot at $260 x 3 months = $780, over double what he was quoted, I told him to go elsewhere before that but he did not listen... live and learn!! That was just for comp an PL no collision coverage! He called to cancel, they still took another payment out, then said oh by the way you have to sign this and send it back to us (the broker), over 3 weeks later, then did not send a policy or pink slips out on time so technically was driving with out insurance for two weeks until I told him to park and cancel in writing... of course they said he would get his money back (less min. retained premium at higher amount? and 1 month plus beyond when he quit driving... time will tell, still waiting for that form and credit back??

We cannot move insurers until two open home claims settled so why would I use them again in future after I can change insurers!!
