New driver again, and I'm 51

by Mike N Ike on Jun 27, 2020
2 out of 5 stars

May 2019, they said my insurance would be 675 a year, I didn't have insurance the year before cause I had to sell my car so I could survive. Insurance was over 1100 which I paid, they said it would be 675 for this year. I got an invoice, it was over 1400. I'm 51, no accidents, been driving 36 years. This is the 4th time in my life I'm a "new' driver again, this is wrong!

Don’t go near this company. Cost us thousands. Their lower rates will cost you when you claim.

Nearly made me homeless

by Cross123 on Jul 8, 2019
2.5 out of 5 stars

Had an 89 Toyota Tercell back in 1995 and was in a car accident that nearly ended my life. I was on comprehensive coverage and it was like pulling teeth to get my claims from them. They were so slow with the claims process that I had to force my injured self back to work to make ends meet. Nearly reinjuring myself again in the process. What a terrible way to take someone's money and do not return the value of the car back to them for so long a time. Shame on Wawanesa, I will never go with them again. I remember calling so many times to check back with them and they kept giving me the brush off and a bunch of excuses that made me feel that I was forgotten. Promising me 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, etc. Disgusting.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Paying the Insurance.

I generally pay yearly to have that bill out of my way, this year I had extended bills so I decided to split the bill, I paid half, then a quarter and the final payment which states right on the form they provided says Aug. 3rd, and they wanted the payment a month after I paid the first quarter of the last half, I paid more to bring down the final payment. They don't seem to honor their own agreement papers. I tried talking to them, but they won't budge, I have other small-time debts to pay, so not paying till the due date "they" wrote down.

Downhill Slide

I have been with Wawanesa for years. On the recommendation of their agents, I filed 3 claims and asked them about one incident where I did not make a claim. Last year they sent a letter telling me they didn't want me as a client for Auto anymore! So in future do not speak to an agent unless you really want to file a claim. Then this year they have gone to a broker system. I called to get a reason for my premium jump. After being transferred 3 times I was told and I quote "to save money" but I am the one who got charged a 35$ broker fee and they raised my monthly premium by 35$ - why? "Well, Wawanesa decided that that was the rate they wanted to charge" - no real explanation. So needless to say I will be looking for a new insurance company this year.

I signed a contract with them and had to wait over 2 months for the bill to get to me. When it did, they increased the rate by 14%. Also, payment was due the day before they sent the bill.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

i had a claim 2 1/2 years ago they did not cover the towing of my car to the garage
I got a rental car for a while (my deposit I only got it back 3 months later after all the calls an complaints)
after that my insurance rate keeps going up.
When I called to find out why, the agent was told me about cars in the area being at risk and I should moved...
I moved I save 70$ the 1st year... after that it just keeps going up...
the rate was low at 1st but then got a little too crazy...
I found a better deal with dejardins

Poor Customer service

I'd been with Wawanesa for 20 years through a broker South Land Insurance. Never had any problems with their policy nor did I have any problems with broker. But recently, the customer service of South Land has plummeted into a stinking sewer. I was literarily told off by the an agent. Yeesh!
I'm leaving to another broker and get this, I will be actually paying more.

Terrible customer service

by Livid in London on Feb 27, 2015

I had an auto collision claim that I files with Wawanesa on Feb 2nd, 2015. They assigned me a claim number on Feb 3rd and advised me of their approved repair shops. I identified the repair shop I would use and took my car in the following day. As of Feb 27th, I have called my local claims office 9 times, and they never pick up. I leave messages, but the adjustor for my claim never returns my call. I have since called my insurance broker 3 times to seek assistance, and they too are unable to get anyone from Wawanesa respond. I believe that this is beyond terrible customer service.

Accusatory, extremely argumentative to being rude.
