I was a customer with AMA for 18 years. I had an accident six years ago not my fault. I had a six-month-old Jeep Grand Cherokee that was a total Loss unfixable. I lost over $8000 with the payout. Was told that was all they would give. Took over 2 months to resolve. Complaining doesn’t help, was told to get a lawyer. Unbelievable, employees not in a good way. Very rude, ignorant and arrogant. About five months ago I received a bill for $5400 a year for insurance. This was the first time that I realized how much we were paying, as my wife always pays the bills. I thought this was extremely high, although, it was for three vehicles. I decided then and there to reach out to her broker it was the best decision I have made in a long time. By doing this it’s saved me over $2000 a year. I can mention several other bad experiences I’ve had with this company. I hope whoever decides to, read this review and please take my word for it. If not, read the other reviews, they are all quite similar. This company is very crooked and dishonest! Hopefully, you make the proper decision.
My vehicle insurance was with AMA for the past 20 years. I’ve never had a claim, no accidents, no traffic tickets. For 20 years I’ve been paying them for insurance and now last night at work someone hit my vehicle and never left a note “Hit and run”. My vehicle was legally parked in a crescent. This is out of my control as anyone would know who has been in this situation. I’ve filed a hit and run with the police and went to AMA to get it fixed. When I got to AMA, I was expecting to pay my 500$ deductible and they would take care of the rest. I was very wrong, paying them for 20 years of insurance with no claims, they tell me my premium will probably go up since it’s a brand new vehicle. How can my premium go up for a parked vehicle that I’m “Not at Fault” for? It’s a hit and run and can happen anytime, anywhere to anyone, unfortunately. I told the agent I do not want my insurance to go up over this. I’m shocked, the agent has the nerves to tell me to just paint over it and it should be fine. Excuse me? This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life. It’s a brand new Acura, I’ve been paying for 20 years of insurance and they tell me to just paint it myself? Also, the agent said it’s AMA policy to raise premium over things like these and they can’t do anything. Real nice, from an insurance company that is this cheap and all about taking your hard-earned money and when something like this happens, oh, your premium is going up. I’m done with AMA and I’m moving my house insurance, all vehicles and life insurance elsewhere. I will pay out of my own pocket to fix my vehicle but I will leave you a bad review over this. Beware, everyone, this can happen to you as well.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
44 yr member, 2 claims, 9 and 10 yrs ago, or so. Charging me $1,100 and change for $1M PLPD. Totally out of line with the market. My bad. How many years of the 44 have I been overcharged? Hate to think about it.
Why was I cancelled for non-payment when I don't owe AMA anything? I cancelled my insurance because I sold the car. When AMA tried to force me to pay an extra month, I refused, so AMA put on me a cancellation for non-payment. Do you know that I can't get insurance anywhere without paying for the full year? Isn't it against the law to have insurance on a car when you don't own it?!!!
AMA auto insurance is not competitive. No demerits, one 3yr old speeding ticket. 3-year customer. Their renewal quote $300 per month higher than others. Big new buildings to pay for and lots of dead weight in the offices. No wonder they were ripped off millions by an executive employee.Foxes guarding the hen house.
Don't deal with AMA. They are extremely overpriced. I was quoted $250 a month for insurance for my car so 3 grand a year... for a car worth only $5500. I managed to get it down to $190 but that was with a $1000 deductible and took basically everything off my insurance except comprehensive and collision. Went to TD insurance and got insurance for $133 a month with $250 deductible, totally covered and accident forgiveness.
Please take my warning and do not deal with them. Their customer service is horrible. I paid my January's insurance (as my new one with cheaper insurance starts feb 1) and they want to charge me another $104 for I don't even know what to be honest and I don't know why it can't come out of my deposit I paid when I started with them. I spent 15 minutes trying to get the lady to explain it so I can understand and she basically told me "well it makes sense to us" after I said this makes zero sense to me. I still don't understand why I'm getting charged this but it's easier to just pay it then keep fighting it.
Seriously though do not deal with AMA. I am now with TD and they're a lot cheaper.... 120$ a month cheaper.

My mother had home and auto insurance with AMA. My mother passed away on May 18 and on June 2 I contacted AMA to cancel her policies. I was asked to submit her Funeral Directors Statement of Death which I did by email. In my email I formally requested cancellation of her policies and asked to be contacted if anything else was needed to complete my request. I received a confirmation email that they received my request and I heard nothing from anyone at AMA so I assumed everything was closed.
The following month I noticed that two withdrawals had been made from my mothers account. AMA had withdrawn payments from her account despite my request to cancel and submission of proof of her death. I called in and the agent I spoke with advised that yes they had received my documents and that their "legal department" was still processing my request. I asked the agent how they could take money from a client they knew was dead and she was quite rude in her reply that I just "be patient".
As of today's date they have withdrawn six payments from my mothers account, I have not heard back from AMA or their so-called legal department. They won't respond to my email and I keep being told that a supervisor will call me but nothing. I don't know what else to do and feel that they are actively and knowingly stealing from my late mother. The lack of compassion and responsibility to do the right thing is shocking from such a well known company.
Please do not use this company if possible, they are very selfish people. Just because my company is registered under my address, they declined my house insurance. Also, they refuse to cancel my car insurance and keep charging me for car insurance.

I’ve been with AMA for 2 years and after multiple gigantic price hikes I looked into switching and realized AMA charges over 3x more for even less coverage than ANYWHERE else. They also never take out payments on time so be aware they will access your bank whenever they feel like it. Also god forbid you have to make a claim or ask any questions because their workers don’t seem to know anything. Horrible company switching before the end of this month.
