They Lost Me Too

by Steve on Nov 9, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I got my first CT card in the 1980s. I didn't use it much because of their high interest rate. It never dropped in the 1990s, when they switched to MC. I used it, but have not been a fan of the interest rates credit card companies charge. They have an automated email answering system, so it's pointless to use. That's one way CTC avoids having to deal directly with customers. Get on the phone with them if you have problems. I switched to VISA about 20 yrs ago because their interest rate is half of what CTMC charges. CTC used to be a good company, but they import more junk than before, and their prices have risen to the point where it is better to shop at Princess Auto or Walmart for many items. Add their exorbitant interest rate, and it's a no-brainer: Dump CTC!

lost me after 22years

by fed-up on Oct 18, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I have been a C/T MC user for over 22 years and never had a complaint. Then out of nowhere, they closed my acc. and stopped my automatic payments to my insurance for my car and house, costing me 75$ for each acc. When I contacted them they said that they had sent me new cards as they are re-branding and I had not activated them, so they closed my acc. I pay my bill every month and my card was good to 2020. Never received cards to this day. Can't trust them now! What would I have done if I had gotten in an accident or my house had burnt down and my insurance wouldn't pay because they [ C/T MC ] stopped my payments? So Long and Good Riddance !!!

Slow response to card issue. Inconsistent customer support replies, call centre staff need better training. Online functions incomparable to other providers. Stay away.

Stay away

You walk in the Canadian Tire store. You see everyone at special booth playing with a screen. You wait in line to find out what's the big deal, then wait, you participate in silly saving vouchers, better see a promotion on flyers. But by this time, they have you convinced, devoted, committed in their game that you save more if you apply for Canadian Tire MasterCard. Given the highest interest rate, you buy your new toys, later see the bill and regret it. You do the math, you realize you should have used another credit card. So like many others, your put focus HOW DO I PAY OFF CANADIAN TIRE MASTERCARD FIRST? And if you are one of those who took disability plan with their credit card, all the best of luck.

C.T. is an absolute fraud

by Karona on Sep 25, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I have been a loyal customer of Canadian Tire for 30-40 years, never missed a payment or ever got in arrears. A fraud took place in Playa del Carmen Mexico, and as a result, my cat who had never been sick a day in her little life died on my birthday. Leticia M, a vet there knew that my Burmese cat was in dire straights and needed intensive treatment. We did blood work on May 2nd, 2018 and the results (I learned May 8th) showed that my cat was at the point of NO return and was dying. May 2nd blood work showed Urea levels of 29.8 when the norm is 4.1... her creatine level was 919.33 instead of 54. The day before her death, Leticia extracted 4 teeth, "knowing" that Nikita would not survive and kept bleeding us for more and more money. I have tried to deal with this credit card company since May 20th, 2018 and no resolve. They will not reimburse the charges, while my MBNA & BMO reversed ALL charges from this same vet. This credit card company, like President's Choice, is the worst company EVER. Today, September 25, 2018, I spoke with a supervisor from customer service, Anne J, and while she sent condolences, she said that the very fact that I put my pin in a paid for these services I am pretty much stuck with them. ...but... she will call me no later than tomorrow. For what??? The other 2 credit card companies saw clearly I was bled and defrauded and they acted on it by reversing all charges. Options MC are a huge company with a fraud fund dept. who should see the value in customers of 30-40 years and do well by them! NOT these guys. They don't give a rip. I am not only grieving over the loss of this beautiful female Burmese cat...my little girl, but feel traumatized by some of those who work there. One of their agents, Art, told me " what do you expect? you were in Mexico". This company has NO heart, and they have hired people who will not fight for you even when you have been defrauded. They just do NOT care. Anyone reading this... PLEASE think twice before signing up with these fraudsters!

Payment due date not really the due date

by Upset in Ottawa on Oct 17, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

The payment due date on my statement was October 2.
Made full payment (EFT) through my bank on October 2.
Was charged interest for two days because it took Canadian Tire two days to process my payment.
Never experienced this with any other company when making electronic payments.

Lazy Customer Service, incredibly quick to lock account

by RainyDayBlues on Jun 26, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

I made a few purchases in April, including having my car brakes installed, but the bill was quite high.

I paid off the balance of the brakes on April 26th and then I guess I made an additional purchase for around $60, but I honestly did not remember.

Saturday, June 24 I get a text message saying I have a balance outstanding. I pay $150 because I know I don't owe that much but I don't want this to continue accruing interest.

On June 26th, I call and find out my credit available is $0 (all I owe is $57.00). I explain I made a payment on June 24th, but she didn't care, it needs to be posted, can't do anything. I ask why the available credit is 0, she says the account is locked until I pay the balance in full. She says this happens after 2 statement periods without a payment.

Complaint 1 - I'm not sure how two statement periods could have elapsed if I paid on April 26th, and paid again on June 24th.

Complaint 2 - Any other bank or FI would call you after the first payment date is missed- CTFS does not make calls

Complaint 3 - The agent was uncaring, unsympathetic and argumentative.

As soon as my payment is applied, I will be calling them back to send back the credit and cancel the card. I refuse to deal with a company like this.

I've never had a problem

by Loishappyandhealthy on May 9, 2022
5 out of 5 stars

I have had my Canadian Tire Mastercards (2) for over ten years and I have never had a problem reaching customer service and arranging payments, being a small business owner if I have been caught without a payment. The agents have always been civil and take care of things immediately.

The worst experience ever

by C on Mar 17, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I was buying Christmas gifts and got the offer of a Canadian Tire card. Halfway through I said I didn’t want it anymore and I would pay full price for everything. The salesperson said there was just one more step, I felt coerced so finished the transaction. I activated the card and paid the amount owing and immediately deactivated the account. Customer service was horrible from the counter to the banking service. I would never recommend this service ever.

Payments required

by Frank on Mar 2, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Recently our amount due has hiked up considerably. In order to avoid interest charges we always pay what is owed. In the last two months, the amount due is over $2,000. Many of our purchases have been on no interest equal installment payments, yet the monies they say we owe are far over the amounts financed this way. I get the feeling we are being punished for being long-term customers. It has been unreasonable and onerous to have to pay this much each month. We do not even owe that much. Is this company in trouble financially? Are they doing some creative accounting on their customers' backs? It is so totally weird. IE: we bought a fireplace for about $1800. We returned it five days later without even picking it up as we decided that spending that money was not in our best interests. It was put on the no-interest/interest-free installment payments. Even though we returned this item we still owe on the payment schedule for this purchase that was not even picked up, and it was added to the total amount owing last month!!! Again we ask is there some creative accounting being done? Are long-term customers being punished, or is it because we are getting to retirement age? Is this ageism discrimination?
