I have recently switched to this company and I have few good things to say about them. I switched unfortunately from another company with great regret. Equitable has been nearly impossible to get a hold of. After waiting 4 times on the phone for over an hour each time with a guaranteed phone call back, it took them 3 weeks to finally call back regarding an important matter to do with my taxes. Upon signing the paperwork, they had sent an outside source that was unfamiliar with what had to be signed which was then blamed on me for not completing what needed to be complete. I was also told that this appointment was going to be virtual but then someone appeared at my house. The worst of all of this is that I initially had a 35-year mortgage and I was told I was being switched to the same, as I had paid down extra and eliminated a large amount of interest in doing so. Although it may be my fault for not fully reading everything, they had switched me to a 12-year mortgage meaning I now have higher payments and am now paying a greater sum of interest again. I never would have switched companies had I known what this company is capable of. Not happy at all.
I wanted to refinance my house. Equitable put my mortgage payment on hold while negotiating refinance (I have 1 million equity in my home), after back and forth, an online document request portal that is not user-friendly came up with a solution that required me to pay out $68,000 to lenders FIRST. If I had that money, I wouldn’t refinance!!!! When I turned them down they then tried to charge my account, WITHOUT NOTICE for 3 MORTGAGE PAYMENTS ON 3 CONSECUTIVE DAYS!!!! Who has $4500 just laying around in their accounts? That costs me a $48 service fee each time AND they added $200 TO MY PRINCIPLE!!!! Crooks. Stay away, don’t get locked in. So glad I switched, (and for better financing).
