My girlfriend and I bought Manulife coverage travel insurance to cover our past 2 trips (October 2021, and June 2022). Since both trips occurred during the pandemic, we specifically took covid coverage for a total cost of around 450 CAD per trip.
We didn't have to use the insurance during our first trip but unfortunately contracted covid during our second trip. I guess you don't know how bad something is until you have to use it.
After we both contracted covid, I wanted to call their medical concierge service (StandbyMD) to get either a virtual consultation with a doctor, a visit from a local doctor or a list of recommended local clinics.
First, I wasn't able to find the number for StandbyMD so I called the emergency hotline. I got a customer rep within seconds but she was completely unhelpful. The only thing she could do is open a claim. When I inquired about standbyMD, she said it is not available for covid cases. When I inquired about getting help finding a local clinic, she said to use google. When I insisted, she performed an actual google search on her computer and gave me the first clinic that popped up (which actually doesn't take walk-ins once I talked to them).
So basically the medical concierge service is completely useless, we had to do everything on our own, calling dozens of clinics until we found one that would see us.
Stay away from this company.
