Absolutely worst experience! Ever!

Chieftain Insurance (Travellers Canada) is absolutely horrifying & terrible. Consumer BEWARE. They cancelled our insurance without even informing us, no letter or anything. Just a refund to our credit card. They should have sent out a cheque with a registered letter to make sure we receive & acknowledge it.

We were contacted by them in July 2021 saying that they did not receive a payment (this was automatically done through our credit card) & if we do not pay $769. by Aug 29th, they would cancel our insurance. As soon as we received the letter, we called & made a payment on August 9th, 2021 & got an authorization code (00573E - paid Aug 9, 2021 @ 12 pm). After a month or two we got a refund for $671 sent directly to the credit card, since there was no letter accompanying it we naturally assumed that it was a covid refund since we weren't driving as much.

Very bad customer service

I found that is difficult to reach any representative via phone, if you leave a message and ask them to call back, they will never call you. It is difficult to make any change since you can't reach them easily. Don't think about email because they want to reply to you most of the time. I didn't have a claim with Chieftain, but I believe that will not be a good experience.

First time forgiveness

by kimFromOakville on Jan 16, 2020

What an amazing insurance company it is! My husband had first time accident since it was unprotected left turn, came to his full-fault. At first, everything was smooth, the car was sent to Garage, got a rental car which we even returned during Christmas break. After the new year, my husband called Chieftain about the first-time forgiveness policy. The person on the phone responded to talk to the broker. We wouldn't say it was a quite respectful response. And then, here letter came to cancel our policy without explaining any reason. Now we need to go through the painful process of finding new insurance company.

monthly cost roller coaster

by Ag3nt49 on Jul 27, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Been with them approximately two years with no incidents/claims. The monthly cost for coverage fluctuated by as much as $100 with no explanation. Calls to ask for justification of the increases were met with eventual (because they never picked up the first call) with a response of "deal with it or leave". Calling to inform of my G license had them tell me they needed me to fax in a copy of my license.... despite having my license # on file, which would allow them to draw all of my driving history from the MTO. Absolute joke of a business with a complete lack of professionalism.

I just got this car insurance for 2 of my cars 2 months ago, never had any accident or claim in 6 years, they got me with a $346 price, then it went up $30 the next Month and today I got a letter - another $45 UP. Hands down I will cancel with them. Who knows what it will be next month. Buyer, beware

Gambling and lying

This insursnce company is based on monthly premiums and not yearly. Which means they change your rates every month. In two years, my insurance was almost $100 more than I was quoted at other auto insurance companies. Every month was a gamble as to how much my insurance would increase by. Also this company claimed that my partner and I had two at-fault accidents from 6 years previous, when neither one of us were driving. They couldn't provide more information other than the year, and refused to look more into this information, all the while charging us more because we "had two accidents". When we pressed for more information, they said it would take 6-8 weeks to get the accident reports, which they refused to send after asking them to. I have since learned that there are absolutely no accidents in our histories (as we knew) and they blatantly made these up.

They're the worst company ever! They'll take your $$$ and do nothing when the time comes for action! They don't communicate with you and their agents are there to simply SCAM you!! Buyer beware! Wish I could give ZERO stars!

Sloppy insurance company.

They made a mistake which was unknown to me, I should have only had one at fault accident on my record. Chieftain kept raiding my insurance and I could not figure out why, well im trying to switch insurance companies come to find out chieftain kindly put two at fault accidents on my record within 10 days of another, for the same vehicle... which was so badly damaged after the accident as it rolled multiple times it was a total loss. They say "an honest mistake" I have been trying to get information on the issue and get it fixed because I can't get insurance right now because of their mistake...

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

it is really nice when someone has had 2 vehicles insured with a company
for 12 yrs, and payed over $ 28 000 and they cut your insurance off, unjustly of course, their screw up, they got their money every time, just a few days late. anyways good to know they are so loyal, lol i am glad they lost all of my business including vehicles, 2 houses, and other stuff, very bad customer service, you might want to consider another company which will gladly treat you nice to get your business, try the co-operators, very friendly
