Cancelled without fair notice

I switched to Sonnet from my group carrier due to price. However, this is a bait and switch tactic as my premiums for both years I’ve been with them have almost doubled and are now higher than my other carrier, all with no tickets or claims.
Had a policy for one year with no claims, tickets, nothing. The monthly rate has increased $100 over the year. Insurance companies are bloodsuckers, so you expect to be milked, but this is insane.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I was with Sonnet for almost a year, while I was with them I had no new tickets/claims/accidents and they just decide to cancel me with no reason at all! I can’t believe I wasted my time with them. Sonnet is also known to give you a great low price your first year with them, and once it’s time to renew they’ll up your price without reason. Please do not waste your time with them.
I chose Sonnet due to the simplicity of their online set-up, monthly payments, competitive rates and email communication. All went well in the beginning. Eight months in I had to file a glass claim to replace the front windshield on my Corvette, my first glass claim in 30 years. They stalled, tried to substitute after-market glass, which didn't exist, wanted to use glass from a lower-trim model and, finally, told me that they would not pay the full price for the correct part plus installation. Long story short and 12 days later my glass installer finally talked to the right level of management and the job was completed. My claims record for both home and auto insurance is spotless, save for the recent glass claim. Has been for 30 years. Come time for renewal and my auto policy increases by 12% and my home owner's by 186% - yes that's right, no claims and no changes from the previous year. I requested an explanation, in writing, they told me that they couldn't do that, not their policy, please call customer service or I could cancel my policies online. I'll let you guess what I did.
Beware! Worst insurance company. I strongly dislike their service. It's been 38 days and my claim is still “under investigation”. No rental car was given to me saying that it cannot be provided until the claim is approved. Major cons: - Cancelling policies by giving inappropriate reasons. - If you call them, the average waiting time is more than an hour approximately. - The customer service representatives are very unprofessional and lack knowledge of almost everything. - Finding every possible reason to deny a claim and save money. - No linkage/communications between their departments (Adjustors/Underwriting/Customer service). You tried contacting any of them, they will come across the same answer: No status on your file yet. - Big raise in monthly instalments after having even a small claim. - Delaying the processing of claims enforcing the clients to do the required repairs on their own.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Beware, please!!! Got a quote for home and auto insurance. Saved it. Was happy as it stated well for 45 days. Went and cancelled my insurance with my older company. Was about to buy. Website crashed. Called and emailed, got an irrelevant response from the tech support 24 hours later. Went again and did quote again just to see it mysteriously increasing. Called them again and asked to provide me with the first quote that was supposed to be good for 45 days. Nope! Once you requote, you are done. I explained that I wanted the first quote and the reason why I requoted was that your website is falling apart. What kind of product do you offer to people when you do not stand behind your words? What is the point in 45 days locking price, when you cannot provide it even after 5 days? Is this the company that I would want to trust my cars and home? No! You lost me as a customer. A poor experience, poor product and unhelpful. Extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with a lack of intention to help.
Wow. I experienced discriminatory rude, service at Sonnet today. I live in a North Hamilton rural community, and my mailing address does not match my residence as for most people in small towns that do not have easy access in the winter. Sonnet refused to quote me on the premise of my residence address not matching my rural P.O. Box (given to me by the Ontario government) Sonnet simply told me I can go somewhere else if I want. I received a feeling that this COMPANY DOES NOT NEED YOUR MONEY. THEY CAN PICK AND CHOOSE THEIR CUSTOMERS. Which is fine, until you have a claim with a car insurance company that is too good for their current or potential customer. Very disappointed. Is that right? Is this professional?
This company is one of the typical insurance that will do everything in their power to not pay anything for a claim. I was recently in a not-at-fault accident and claimed the damage under this company. I went to 3 different certified collision autobody shops and got quoted at around $4000 on average with $3500 being the lowest. They asked me to take it to Carstar where they only take photos of the bumper and not underneath the car where the most damage is at Muffler and Intermediate Pipe. The adjuster came back with an estimate and refused to pay for the damaged tailgate and only the muffler part was included - total estimate was $2000 which only includes the muffler at $600 and bumper and I would have to pay a betterment fee of 75% at $600 and the muffler itself is $600. I said I would like to have it done in another autobody shop and they told me "We will only pay $1500 wherever you want it done." I told them I would like the muffler and intermediate pipe return to the condition prior to the accident - I don't need a new part, I don't care if they decide to smelt the parts back together but I am not paying a single nickel for a not-at-fault accident. Seriously, I was rear-ended and was victimized and they decide to victimize me even more. I intend to report this company to the Alberta insurance council for unethical business practice.
I signed with Sonnet for ease of use and low rates. In the first year, I had a claim for a stone in the windshield (repair). Got quickly settled, valued at $123.00. Upon renewal, my home insurance went up by 29%, while the car insurance went up by 300%. Not an error! 300% (close to $1,000 increase)! And the only explanation I got was that it was because of that particular claim. One good thing about Sonnet: you can get out without penalty at any time. Lesson learned: don't have any claim with Sonnet!

I have been happy with Sonnet for 3 years and all of a sudden I received a letter stating my policy will not be renewed because I did not respond to them in a timely matter. They reasoned that they sent me an email and I did not respond to them within 30 days. Thing is the last email I got from them was 2 months before they claimed to have sent this one. So, after 3 years with no claims and no missed or late payments they don't want me as a customer. I was told that I could get a new quote and reapply as a customer, but that would make my rate increase by $170/m which more than doubles my premium. I will now be taking all of my policies elsewhere.
