I already PRE PAID IN FULL for a year and yet they proceeded to take out money for a non-existent policy after I already cancelled it and refused to follow up after several calls. Terrible experience!
They fought with me overvalue of my Benz. I’m even the person who got rear-ended. If you haven’t done your taxes, they void payouts. Horrible company to deal with. Don't invest in their coverage, it's a scam. My corporation is going to struggle with this insurance company. Really really disappointed with their customer service. If I don't see cheques soon, I’ll switch insurance in October next year.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Everything seemed fine for the first year until it came time to renew the contract. There was nothing wrong with the file but, they provided so much trouble in the renewal process. It was a huge headache and honestly, we had to switch companies because the customer service and IT department were COMPLETELY useless (that is the nicest way to put it).
Sure the initial online policy sign-up process is easy - but that's the only value you get from Sonnet / Economical, as they are the same company. They are severely understaffed in the back office and our claim processing was offloaded to a third-party agency. We are 4 MONTHS into our car repairs saga after car theft, being bounced from 3rd party to 3rd party, given the wrong status and timelines on repairs, having to get to the body shop ourselves to take pictures to show to our adjuster, etc. We should get our car back in 3 weeks, after having had to manage the entire process on behalf of our Insurance provider. 5 MONTHS to get your vehicle back... Dealing with a claim at Sonnet is a nightmare - AVOID AT ALL COST
I had a claim. They would not answer. I keep calling over and over again and got ahold of someone and told them they had that day to get me my rental or I would not be paying the month of my insurance. I got my rental then took forever to hear back from my adjuster which I did and said the same thing. I want to know what is going on with my car? How much you are paying me by the end of the week or once again I will not give you guy money for insurance and I will pay to make sure nothing bounces from my bank account.
I have Sonnet for my tenant insurance and I have 0 complaints on that part. However, I signed up with Sonnet's Auto Insurance a year ago because my job offered a group discount so I saved money and I added coverages. It was great for the first couple of months. When I obtained my Insurance Brokers license, I decided to reduce some of the coverages I no longer needed and somehow that made the price goes up! I thought this was an error on their website because, before even making changes, the website said my policy would increase by $72/year with the selected options. Nothing had changed, there should not be an increase if nothing changed. I called and explained what I was trying to do - assuming their portal was making mistakes - the woman on the phone replied "When you take off coverages, it increases your premium." Absolutely not, that is not how insurance works ever. I then explained to her my knowledge in the matter and informed her that this was a clear issue because it was going to increase without any changes, and she basically said I should know that this is how insurance works and the website is right. It does not. You take off coverages, your rate goes down. You make no changes, your rate stays the same. The only time a premium should increase is if you add coverages or increase your limits. It's very simple but Sonnet clearly wants to take all of the consumer's hard-earned money and hope that lack of knowledge will allow them to do this without being reprimanded. I do not recommend this company ever.
Wait until you cancel it. I was paying $118 per month on my car insurance and when I cancelled it I got another charge of $420. I spoke to one of the agents and they never explained to me full details of this charge other than the system generating the contract cancellation fees. If I would rate them I would give them -5. DON'T EVER GO WITH THEM
If I can give minus stars I will give minus millions of trillions of stars, this company is not responsible nor respectful to their customers. After filing a claim, the assigned person never answers the phone nor email message. After over more than a month, tried to make complaints, the assigned person show up, and the only thing he did is tell you that this company do not responsible for the backorder part, which is against law. Moreover, he always tries to take back the rental car without fixing the insured car. Then the company does not answer your message anymore.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
If I could give Sonnet below 1 star I would! They are absolutely terrible. They are scammers! They just take your monthly premium... It took 9 months to fix my car! They never call you... They don't even respond to emails. The worst experience I have ever had and their rates are not good!
I cancelled my insurance back in May 2022 due to a price hike of over $600, they even sent a CONFIRMATION stating my insurance is cancelled.
June 2022 - Sonnet sends me a credit email of $1525, saying my account will be credited?
July 2022 - the $ 1525 was REMOVED from my bank account, even though I no longer have a policy with them??
I called and they said I will get it within 14 days... 14 days pass, and they claim it takes 3-5 days for AN E-TRANSFER to show up. A week passes and still no refund...
Called again, and they said "you should get it in the next few days"... Another week passes...
I filled out an investigation with my bank. The bank says "we got to give them 30 days to respond". 30 DAYS PASS - still no refund!
Now I gotta hire a lawyer! More money out of pocket.
If you sign up with Sonnet, you are a fool. These guys get away with FRAUD.
