I got an email stating I have to submit OAF 1 within 30 days or my insurance policy will not be renewed. I did all the paperwork with the necessary documents to send it via Canada post. When I gave them my document mail, Canada post representative said the address they hold for Sonnet is not what I wrote on the mail. I showed them the email which stated the address and Canada post representative said it’s not the correct address we have and if I have to continue with what is mentioned in the email, they are not sure of the delivery of mail. Since their database doesn’t have the address that sonnet sent me in email. It was suspicious but I ignored it thinking if it didn’t go to the right address it would return to me. I got the letter from sonnet stating they are cancelling my renewal because they didn’t receive my mail. So where did the mail go? I didn’t receive it back which means it’s delivered to the correct mailer. And sonnet said they didn’t receive my mail. Totally because I didn’t make any claim for two years? Scam company.
Without any info or email or letter, my insurance went from 279 to 717 and They don't have the customer service to talk right. All they say is go to your Portal and hit cancel if you want. And when I go to my portal it says Call to cancel. I find this to be a hoax. They are literally stealing their clients. No email or letter stating that the Economical Insurance company now owns Sonnet. So sad to see that they don't want to retain their customers.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
By the time it came to my attention they had cancelled my insurance giving me 3 weeks notice and would not allow me to even pay it in full for the term, on top of that I had planned to store one of my cars for the winter and was not allowed to change my policy forcing me to pay full price for last 3 weeks.
I am currently reading all the sudden cancellations without verbal notice, which then give you a bad rating and joke your insurance rates. My family had no claims all payments in time and sudden cancellation without notice, stating it does to others, “ risk that the application. Was submitted by a broker/ agent not contracted” This is fraudulent on sonnet’s part I am looking into legal action, and for others, I believe Ctv news should be aware and the public should know. Also, the better business bureau needs to be connected to investigate this fraud of a company.
I was with Sonnet for almost a year, while I was with them I had no new tickets/claims/accidents and they just decide to cancel me with no reason at all! I can’t believe I wasted my time with them. Sonnet is also known to give you a great low price your first year with them, and once it’s time to renew they’ll up your price without reason. Please do not waste your time with them.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
I chose Sonnet due to the simplicity of their online set-up, monthly payments, competitive rates and email communication. All went well in the beginning. Eight months in I had to file a glass claim to replace the front windshield on my Corvette, my first glass claim in 30 years. They stalled, tried to substitute after-market glass, which didn't exist, wanted to use glass from a lower-trim model and, finally, told me that they would not pay the full price for the correct part plus installation. Long story short and 12 days later my glass installer finally talked to the right level of management and the job was completed. My claims record for both home and auto insurance is spotless, save for the recent glass claim. Has been for 30 years. Come time for renewal and my auto policy increases by 12% and my home owner's by 186% - yes that's right, no claims and no changes from the previous year. I requested an explanation, in writing, they told me that they couldn't do that, not their policy, please call customer service or I could cancel my policies online. I'll let you guess what I did.
Beware, please!!! Got a quote for home and auto insurance. Saved it. Was happy as it stated well for 45 days. Went and cancelled my insurance with my older company. Was about to buy. Website crashed. Called and emailed, got an irrelevant response from the tech support 24 hours later. Went again and did quote again just to see it mysteriously increasing. Called them again and asked to provide me with the first quote that was supposed to be good for 45 days. Nope! Once you requote, you are done. I explained that I wanted the first quote and the reason why I requoted was that your website is falling apart. What kind of product do you offer to people when you do not stand behind your words? What is the point in 45 days locking price, when you cannot provide it even after 5 days? Is this the company that I would want to trust my cars and home? No! You lost me as a customer. A poor experience, poor product and unhelpful. Extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with a lack of intention to help.
I signed with Sonnet for ease of use and low rates. In the first year, I had a claim for a stone in the windshield (repair). Got quickly settled, valued at $123.00. Upon renewal, my home insurance went up by 29%, while the car insurance went up by 300%. Not an error! 300% (close to $1,000 increase)! And the only explanation I got was that it was because of that particular claim. One good thing about Sonnet: you can get out without penalty at any time. Lesson learned: don't have any claim with Sonnet!
While I was getting quotes for X amount of dollars, Sonnet beat it by nearly $75/month. The rep had also walked me through on what to do when getting my quote and purchasing the insurance.
My insurance policy was cancelled and I wasn't even aware. Even though there were two policyholders - with both our emails, addresses, phone numbers and contact information on file. We were not properly notified that our payments were not going through. We did not receive any notice from Sonnet regarding this issue and during this time their email system was sending out notifications that they were having technical issues sending info. Upon realizing that my policy was cancelled (no notice, call, letter or anything from them)- I took the initiative to call Sonnet to correct and pay the missed payments. They took my payments- but did not re-instate my policy (which ended up being a blessing in disguise, because they are an awful company). I spoke to all levels of customer service regarding their oversight and my issue. And they still did not help and told me to go elsewhere. Despite cancelling my policy and refusing to reinstate it they still email me notifications and promotions. How insulting. If a company is going to go through all the trouble to refuse a client after an error. At least have the decency to remove them from your mailing list. Poor customer service. Poor oversight and poor handling of customers when they have issues. Please go elsewhere.
