ICBC tried to scam me!

I was rear ended by a motor home while stopped at a light in May of 1989. I suffered a whiplash injury. I went through the typical assessment of different doctors and adjusters. I called a lawyer at the the time because I felt I would be better served. The claim took under a year (was paid in Feb. of '90) and got a total settlement of just under 15k. However that injury has never healed properly as it is mostly soft tissue. As I am aging this condition is getting worse. It doesn't really matter if ICBC is the scam of the century (which clearly it is), without a properly functioning body that is in pain, what's the difference? The people that administrate these places are the types that permeate this dysfunctional, exploitive society of juvenilized people. It is time to bring back the rule of law on this land.
NEVER ever deal with them if you can choose otherwise. This is the worst government company that was set up in the history of mankind. If you have the misfortune to have to deal with them, I'd say get ready for the worst experience of your life.
They will basically extort money from you in every possible way without showing anything from it. Any conversation with customer service or representatives is reduced to "You have to PAY us big, deal with it"
I know this is a bit generic, but I am summing up all my experiences I had along the years with them. I had fender benders (both my fault and 3rd party). Everytime I had to pay big money to ..., you guessed, ICBC.
Insurance company should not be forced upon and shoved down your throat like nazi Germany. Everybody should be able to choose their own insurance company. I totally agree that everyone should be insured, but not by money thirtsy, greedy zealots. Not only that, but they make you feel miserable on any and every occasion they get a chance.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. Can't state enough how ICBC should just desist from doing any kind of business. If ICBC would have to compete with ANY insurance company they will be bankrupt within a few days.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I used an ICBC approved auto repair to do the replacement of a rear bumper of my 2005 Dodge Van. Staff were friendly until after I signed the paperwork . I drove home and got out of the van to check the repair as I opened the rear hatch the rubber seal all across the bumper was pulled off ( the integrity of the seal was totally intact prior to repair). I closed the hatch and took the the van back to the repair shop and pointed the damage out top the estimator. He look at it and said "we don't have to take the seal off to replace the bumper , I said "so I am supposed to fix this myself" He said yes and walked away. the alignment of the bumper was out by 3/4" and still loose. I am not happy with CB's AutoTech Collision & Repair Centre Ltd., 2804 Rock Bay Ave, Victoria, BC, V8T 4S1.
True story. I was properly parked in a shopping mall parking lot, engine off. My passenger was stepping out of her side of the car. Someone pulled into the space beside us and hit my passenger-side door. ICBC decision? I was declared 100% at fault because when the open door of a car is hit by a moving vehicle, the parked car is always assumed to be at fault. Do they think the guy was driving with due care and attention when he hit a parked car? Did they consider the guy may have been drinking? Nope. Did they call my witness, the passenger who almost got hit? Nope. Instant decision. Parked car is at fault. If he'd killed my passenger he probably could have filed a claim for the cost of cleaning her blood off his fender. So if you hit the door of a parked car in a parking lot, don't worry, it's their fault. Only good part: he hit my door edge-on, so only a scratch to my door, which I'll touch up, so no claim from me. But the other car had fender amage, and filed a claim.
I was rear-ended while driving a Porsche 924, which has been shown can take up to a 15 mile per hour rear impact without suffering any damage. ICBC said because my car was not damaged, even though the girl who hit me had $900 damage to her front bumper, ICBC denied me any money to cover my out-of pocket costs for pain killers, muscle relaxants, physio-therapy, massage therapy and acupuncture. They even sent me to a specialist who confirmed that I had no previous neck or spinal injury prior to the day of the accident and paid him $800 for the report. Over a 2.5 year period they paid their lawyers thousands to battle a claim that I would have accepted $1200 for, which would have simply covered my expenses. I told their female head lawyer I would settle for just what I paid out of pocket and they still denied me everything, and taking them to Small Claims Court was a complete waste of time because the judge did nothing on 4 different dates. I finally moved back to Alberta and said screw it, but since the case went to Supreme Court and I failed to file the amount I was suing them for on time, their lawyers got a dismissal and filed a failure to disclose case against me and now want me to pay them $800! Over the years they have sent me a dozen invoices and letters but I will NEVER pay them a penny! ICBC is the definition of Organized Crime. They are the worst insurance company you can ever deal with when it comes to an injury accident. That's what happens when you create a Monster Monopoly.
ICBC has had its monopoly for too long now.
Its about time we allow private insurance companies to operate in BC
I would like to highlights the problems of monopoly and how the BC residents are taken for a ride but this monster called ICBC.
First of all the most expensive insurance in the world is ICBC there is no insurance in the world that charges 4000$ for a new driver except ICBC. The sad part is they are getting away with it since no one apparently in BC is doing anything to end this mockery.
ICBC has announced profit of 285,000,000 in one year with 135% increase in profit and yet they want to increase the premiums by 4.9% on all drivers and the CEO has the decency to come on TV and claim that the 4.9% is less than a 1 a month.
Seriously do you think that Canadians are that stupid here is the formula first of all the average insurance in BC ( these statistics is by them not mine is) 1285$ 4.9% of that is 62.9$ that is over 5$ a month how dare you lie and say it is less than a 1$?
Did you know that new drivers in BC are asked to pay 4000$ for those old drivers who really think that this does not affect them since they are averagely paying 1300$ think about your sons and daughters think about your brothers and sisters and friends who will end up paying over 300$ a month when you can buy a brand new car for less than 200$ a month EMI?
The problem is bigger than amounts paid the problem is Monopoly.
Allow me to highlight the monopoly scheme
When you are a monopoly you become complacent you don't care about your customers any more to you they are sheep not clients or you see them with the $ sign on their foreheads
As a monopoly they will use their funds in every possible way to keep their business running as a monopoly therefore you have a lobby of corrupt politicians who are paid to protect the interest of this company and not yours as a citizen of this country. You become a no. not a human being any more.
Other problem of Monopoly is that the company who is preforming the monopoly they have no respect to their clients its like we can do it we are doing it and we love doing it and you have no other option but to take it or leave it.
Today cars are no luxury. They are a mean of transport to many of us. If we don't drive and reach to our work we don't eat or pay the rent at the end of the month. When company like ICBC has the liberty to do what it likes with your as a no. ( not a human being ) they are hitting you where it hurts and you have nothing to do about it.
Remember politicians and supporters of ICBC are being paid by you they are your servants but just like police they get carried away and they think they are above the law. They need to be reminded that you are there to serve us and not the other way around.
Today ICBC is no more a private company they are now setting the rules for the road speeds asking RCMP to act as per their likings arrest hold confiscate and even use your information gathered by them with police investigation without your approvals.
Today we say stop to ICBC we call on more companies to come and operate in BC we want to create jobs by allowing fair competition.
If 4 or five auto insurance companies come to operate in BC guaranteed jobs of over 50,000 personal will be available
rates of your yearly premiums will drop from 3400$ to 700$

I had a car accident and it wasn't my fault. I had a call from the adjuster cause my car was total loss. She called and told me that she'll give me less money for my car and told me that I'm lucky. Lucky? I injured my back and lost my beautiful car and she's telling me that I'm lucky. I got so frustrated so i hired an ICBC lawyer called Nirwan Law Corporation. Harpreet already knew my problem and after only a month I got my money from the car and in 6 months from injury. Thank you Harpreet for all your hard work. I simply recommend Harpreet to anyone who struggles with ICBC SCAMMERS!
