Stay away!

This company just seems to have a different slant on customer service! First of all you can never speak to an actual person and if you do finally get through to a person, you will never get through to the same individual again!
a month ago I purchased a new vehicle and the dealer and myself both contacted Johnson for coverage. After picking up the vehicle, we thought that it was odd that Johnson had not confirmed anything so we called.....they had no record of the transaction.
Today I received a message from Kaila at Johnson to give them a call.....of course I was given a 1-888 phone number....you called me?!
I did not get to speak to Kaila and after numerous 'security' questions.....again....you called me?!? they informed me that the call was to verify that they could send insurance confirmation out to the dealership for my new car.....IT WAS PURCHASED A MONTH AGO!
Hurry up re-newel!

Overpriced/Nonexistent service

I have been insured by Unifund through Johnson for over ten years. This April, my car war rear-ended. Clearly the other driver's fault. Didn't get to speak with the adjuster once, even after numerous phone calls. Just got the renewal in the mail for 2016-17 - nice juicy increase. So, did my mystery adjuster somehow charge part or all of the repair to my policy? I'll probably never know. So, now it's a choice of shop for another insurer or keep taking it up the tailpipe from Johnson / Unifund.

Loyalty is NOT rewarded

by mplante on May 3, 2016

I've been a loyal customer of Johnson Insurance for nearly 20 years. I've had two cars and my house insured during that time, and neither my wife or I ever made a claim. In the past two years, my wife had run into some bad luck and was in two accidents, both deemed at fault. We were told that she would now be considered high-risk, and so I waited to hear from them how my rates would be affected.
I get a call and an email yesterday informing me that they would not renew my auto insurance. This was fine by me because my intent was to not renew either, and decided also to cancel my home insurance.
I called to get a quote from a local broker, and expected to pay significantly more. Even with full disclosure, they came back, my wife now high-risk insured, at $12 cheaper per month than my regular rate with Johnson!
So not only am I saving money, I've been getting gouged for years! I hope this post gets read by customers and others before it gets removed, so that you can save yourself some money and hassle by just going to another company. My biggest regret is not shopping around sooner, but my fault for thinking that loyalty would be rewarded.

Insurance agent Joann L. at Johnson Inc in Richmond Hill, Ontario has got to be the biggest joke or excuse of an agent that has ever existed. She tries to belittle her customers just to make herself feel better.
If Johnson Inc is the company for you then do yourself a big huge favour and ask for any other agent within the company then to deal with this woman.
When asked for information she tells you to look it up yourself because "that's just not my job" she often replies. Well if selling insurance isn't your job then what the heck are you doing there, besides wasting everyone's time including your own? Crazy crazy woman. Beware!!!!

Hidden cancellation fees

Called them for a quote for a newer vehicle we purchased. Very high price. Asked them if the could do any better since we had been with them for many many years. They told me no. Found cheaper insurance by $800 same coverage. Called to cancel the vehicle insurance which they had to talk to myself and my husband. Found out then that there is a cancellation fee plus our house insurance jumped up $300.00. Asked to talk to a manager regarding the cancellation fee and they would not put me thru to one. Bully corporation and high robbery.

Been with this company for many many years. Purchased a new vehicle and asked for a quote for the new vehicle. Outrage price, asked if they could do anything to lower the price. No I was advised. Took three calls to get the letters for the new insurance company. They had to talk to myself and my husband to cancel the auto insurance. Then we found out there is a canellation fee as well as our house insurance went up $300 since we cancelled the auto insurance. Asked to talk to a manager regarding the cancellation and they would not put us thru to one. Bully and Robert from this company.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

do not use this company!!

My husband has been with these guys for many years... we ended up finding a better rate and someone we could talk to in person. We called to cancel and asked if there is anything else we need to pay. She answered no. I now have a 1.73.53 cent bill and 2 bounced payment fees. Happy I got my husband out of this place! They will be getting it thrown right back.

I had claimed recently and they decided to give me value of the car as it was not repairable. They gave me rental car just for 4 days, today is the last day and still I didn't receive cheque and when I call them to extend rental period , they don't pick up phone...no reply of email and finally they talked so rudely and denied for rental extension..........

Shame on you....you love just money but not customer service and your business.

Hidden Cancellation fees

Beware dealing with this company. We tried to leave for another insurance co that offered the same auto coverage for lower rates and Johnson charged an additional $180 in cancellation fees in order for us to cancel (more than 1 month of payments with only 5 months left on the policy). Belair Ins was $45 / month cheaper right up front, so I would suggest avoiding this company and dealing directly with Belair instead.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Scammers!

I can't even bring myself to assign even one star to this fly by night company. I was in an automobile accident last year. The other driver -- insured by Unifund -- was at fault. My insurance carrier (StateFarm) got the run around when trying to get Unifund to cover the cost of the emergency vehicles that were called to the scene of the accident. Unifund doesn't answer the phone and they don't return calls from the State Farm claims adjusters. Now I'm personally on the hook for paying over $400 to the county to cover the cost of the firetrucks showing up. If I don't pay, the county will turn my case over to a collection agency and my credit standing will be compromised.
