1. I was in an accident. Car slid into my lane on icy roads. AMA did nothing to hold the other party accountable and increased my rates by almost double as it was not my first claim.
2. My daughter's car was hit while parked. AMA still cannot determine fault of the accident. I have had to pay $500 deductible out of my pocket while they determine that a parked car is not at fault for an accident. I'm still waiting.
3. They increased my daughter's premium by 2 - did not send the information to the correct address which she has proof that they have (see #2 - that claim was made at the new address). AMA was behind in their renewals so they took the doubled payment at the end of December for November and then another double payment in the first week of January for December. That's 4x what my daughter was expecting to pay within 7 days. My daughter is on her 8th month of mat leave and not in a financial position to cover these kinds of unforeseen expenses. As a result, AMA is not charging her $40 for insufficient funds and her bank has charged her $50 for insufficient funds.
No one at AMA seems able to do anything. My daughter and I will both be leaving AMA and hope to save others from the frustration by warning you about the inept business practices for a service that you are legally obligated to obtain in order to drive your vehicle.
My rating would be no stars, but that is not an option which is the only reason that I have given them a one star rating.
I was insured with AMA for 3 years. Satisfied with their service, but they always raise monthly payments, does not matter if a customer had a collision, or not. Too expensive!
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
I called to try and cancel my policy today because I found a much cheaper rate elsewhere and they charged me $100. Keep in mind that I only signed up for their policy 2 days ago and technically their coverage wasn't even supposed to start for another 5 days. I basically got charged for cancelling something that didn't exist yet because god forbid a multi million dollar company get $100 less. Thanks for ruining my birthday AMA. definitely won't ever be recommending them to any friends or family.
I have been a client of AMA for almost 5 years and to be honest I dont know why I stayed so long. Ive had one claim that they put me at fault because they were to lazy to contact the at fault drivers insurance company. This put my monthly amount up to $220 for a single driver and one vehicle.(no previous accidents or tickets) I recently decided to change insurance companies and I feel stupid that I didn't sooner. AMA has screwed up multiple times on my billing, on my claim, pretty much everywhere they possibly could. When I went to my new insurer they said I had no accidents on my record. (AMA screwed up again surprise surprise) I went to cancel my insurance through AMA and they wanted to charge me $120 bucks cause I haven't given them enough of my money! Im glad I switched because now I pay $80 a month for the same coverage!!! (Switched to RBC Insurance and the associate was very knowledgeable and helpful!)
ONE thing they have to do, just one. Send the application for signing! 3 attempts later for ME to tell THEM to send me docs for signing, and they still can't get it right!
at one point the doc they sent me was to cancel insurance- not sign up for it!! monkeys on the phone, and the supervisor was no better!!
I don't know what happens if you have a claim, but a child could email a document, these dummies, well, i dunno whats going on!
I will switch next year.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Having just moved to Alberta from Manitoba, my husband and I went to AMA to take care of all our driver licensing, registry, Ab Health Care needs, and hopefully Insurance. We experienced a very genial but apparently disorganized agent, and took from May 17th until May 31st to finalize our insurance and find our premium, despite clean driving records and accident claims free experience, was exorbitant. All our information was received by May 19th, except my Claims Experience Letter which had not gone through on Manitoba Public Insurance's fax. It was up to me to check in with the agent to determine if the info had been received, and on May 31st after not hearing back, I e-mailed to find that it had not. I made a quick call to MPI and AMA had the forms that day. After endorsing the policy I felt the premium was excessive and went to another Insurance broker and got better coverage for close to $500.00 less. Now, I am dreading cancellation fees. Not at all happy with AMA Insurance!
Would NOT recommend this company! After feeling as though I was being overcharged for my car insurance, I went to another company and got the same thing for $1300 cheaper a year! I was not impressed. They only got the one star they did because I had to to submit my review.
My car was a write-off following a collision. They continued to charge me my monthly insurance rate long after my car was taken away. This was because, according to them, I failed to call their insurance department following my call to their claims department after the collision occurred. They informed me there is no intracommunication within the company amongst the departments, so the duty fell to me to make sure my insurance was cancelled. However, at no point was it expressed to me that a second call had to be made. I do not recognize this as common knowledge, considering the multiple people I have spoken to who have also made collision claims and who have never come across this issue of having to call multiple departments (and then being penalized for not doing so).
I had never been involved in a collision before and had never made a claim. I called the claims department, informed them of what had happened, and did not receive any instructions or advice on how to proceed. At that moment, I felt safe and secure with the idea that my insurer was taking care of the resulting mess. If I am paying $200+ a month, then I would expect to feel secure following an accident, trusting my insurance company to take care of those items which fall within their realm. Obviously, my trust was misplaced.
They refused to reimburse me for the monies that had been removed from my account and proceeded to charge a cancellation fee for "cancelling" my insurance coverage. The overall experience made me feel like a walking dollar sign as opposed to a person. If you are looking for a false sense of security, then AMA is the place to go. However, if you are ever in need of making a claim, you can be assured that they will make no effort in absorbing the shock of the process.
To be fair, my prior experiences with AMA in dealing with their sale representatives were generally positive. That being said, people are usually all smiles when they're attempting to get one's business. Keeping it, on the other hand, is a huge AMA failure.
tl;dr AMA is useless if you're making a claim, and -- really -- the whole point of an insurer is to be useful when you have to make a claim.
Only at AMA will you be able to find an insurance company who can take an accident that was deemed 100% the other person's fault (by the police and by them at first) and make you pay 50% of the damages. Terrible experience with insurance claim, super slow process and very little explanation. Not impressed. Never going to return to them.
I took quote from AMA and I was given 3750 for 2017 Acura MDX.I phoned Td insurance and State Farm insurance to compare the price. Td insurance gave me 1627 and state farm gave me 1521..but AMA insurance quote was 3700 which is even more than double.
Next day AMA email me and said they will give me 1000 discount.
Time waste to phone AMA..worst company I ever seen.
