If you are hoping for any type of compassion or help from these people then you should look elsewhere. The appraiser we dealt with was extremely rude and forced my wife into a corner with settling an appraisal. This company is only in it for the money which you will never see used for your well-being.
I just recently had a total loss of my 2010 Santa Fe. The adjuster assigned to my claim has been curt and unprofessional thru emails. There are spelling and grammatical errors and zero pleasantries. It’s given me a feeling of being unwelcome. I did repairs and maintenance to my vehicle on July 10th of $2900 and in June spent $1400. On July 14th a deer totalled the vehicle. Prior to the knowledge of the work done which included four brand new tires costing $824 and two ball joints, brake callipers etc... the adjuster came up $500 from the original settlement offer. What a kick in the teeth. The entire time I have been hounded to send the signed registration. I had a great experience with them the entire time I’ve been forking out money with no claims, but the second I need to “cash in” I’m a nuisance.
As a BCAA home insurance customer... I thought about purchasing BCAA optional Auto Insurance! As everyone knows... British Columbia has the highest auto insurance rates in the country. I am a person who owns three vehicles so I wanted to see what kind of discounts I would get by purchasing BCAA optional Auto Insurance! I saved approximately $200 per year per vehicle! One day I went outside to get into my truck in front of my house and the side window was smashed out... I made the call... BCAA gave me the number to the insurance provider that they use. Five phone calls later and an hour or so of my time... I really started to get frustrated! I eventually asked the glass company how much my bill was going to be! The total bill was $326... My deductible was $300... I decided that making a claim with this insurance company wasn't worth $26 and hours of my precious time! At renewal time I will not be purchasing optional insurance from BCAA... It even scares me about my home insurance!!! It's kind of scary!
We pay a bit extra for insurance through BCAA because they are known to be very efficient and friendly in the past. Not so much anymore. After the initial call to report the claim it took 2 weeks before I had to call in to figure out what is going on with my claim. I was given the claims adjuster's info whom I then called and emailed with no replies. Another couple of days go by and I had to call in again to figure out what is happening. I finally got a hold of the adjuster after escalating to their supervisor. Set up my repair shop assessment appointment but still needed to find out the fault through ICBC. Again a few more days go by I had to call ICBC to follow up and it was 100% the other party's fault, so I shouldn't have to pay the deductible. I called the claim adjuster and emailed her to make sure I do not have to pay my deductible. No response. Now it's been over a month and no response. I called back the main auto insurance number and I found out the claim adjuster is no longer working at BCAA. The CSR put me on hold and managed to call the ICBC contact and confirmed that I will not have to pay the deductible. Great, finally, I go to the repair shop and they didn't hear anything back from BCAA so I was forced to pay the $300 deductible because no one called the repair shop to tell them otherwise... So now I'm trying to get a hold of any claims adjuster so I can get my $300 refund. It's coming to 2 months now. Will I go with BCAA on my next auto insurance? I doubt it.
The claims process is hilarious. I call in the evening when most people have 20–30 mins to waste, thought I submitted my claim, and get told the next person that will call me is an adjuster.
Get called the next day... Not by an adjuster but by someone saying "do you have 20–30 mins of your time to waste to CONFIRM everything that was said last night? It was our AFTER HOURS line so we have to do EVERYTHING AGAIN pretty much"
Oh, but then I say "it's pointless then to use the after hours line if I just have to go through the same thing over again"
"We advise that if you can't call between 9-5 (y'know, when most people work) to use the after hours line!"
"But... You just said I have to waste the same amount of time confirming all the details because it's your after-hours line... So... There's no point in using it"
Absolutely the stupidest thing I have ever experienced with insurance. Why even have an after hours line??? To piss off your customers and waste AN HOUR of their time reporting an accident??? You do realize we have to report to ICBC too, right?? It shouldn't take 1.5 hours to report an accident... Without hold times.
Insanity.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
The gentleman behind the phone essentially called me a liar as I had stated that I wanted to cancel and nothing was sent for signature. The home insurance is too expensive and the car insurance is too expensive, overall too expensive.
I had an extremely clean driving record, no traffic violations ever and no accidents until a late 2022 when a crazy person ran a red and hit me turning left. Their insurance company ruled, it was my fault because I was turning left even though I had a witness stating otherwise regarding the red light. BCAA said not to worry, don’t spend any money fighting it since I have 1 accident forgiveness anyway. When it came time to renew, they upped my insurance almost $2000 regardless. Apparently the underwriter can do whatever they want and they don’t have to honour 1 accident forgiveness that I paid for! Unbelievably awful company. Bottom line, YOU Can't trust BCAA… they have no integrity and do not stand behind their word. Both my husband and I had left and saved hundreds for same coverage by leaving this horrible insurance company.
2 times I had to call BCAA for towing my motorcycle. Both times the wait time for the tow truck to come was more than 2 hours. Basically, BCAA is a middle man between you and a tow truck contractor.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
I just need to remove the named driver on my optional car vehicle.
They said I have a lease car that doesn't have a blanket letter (European car).
I need to get a letter from my dealership in order to do it
It's such a waste of time. I waited on the phone for over an hour ( So lack of people working) and I got the answer to getting a blanket letter first!
She works in Prince George, but at the location in Vancouver, the agent will fax the request over to the least company and do that for you. So double standards inside the company.
JUST DON'T DO optional with them if you have a European lease car!!!
It took 6 weeks to fix my car after my car was hit by an RCMP ghost van doing a high-speed chase in a parking lot. The RCMP took full responsibility for the crash.
1) I called BCAA and they told me I had to talk to ICBC first.
2) I contacted Craftsman Collision to get my car repaired. They told me to bring in the car a week later.
3) The steering and front end were bent but Craftsman said seeing I only lived a mile away they would not give me a rental.
4) I told BCAA the car was not safe to drive but they refused to give me a safe car to commute with.
5)Two weeks later BCAA told me the car was a write-off and would not fix it.
6) One week later when they realized my car was worth more than they thought so they agreed to fix it.
7)Three weeks later the car was fixed but they refused to refund the $500 deductible until I got the RCMP to admit fault.
8)ICBC phoned BCAA twice to tell them they had contacted the RCMP and they were at fault.
9) ICBC arranged a conference call with me, ICBC and BCAA.
10) After that call BCAA said they would not take ICBC’s word for it and would have to investigate it themselves.
11) Two months later still no $500 rebate for the deductible.
One question - do you want BCAA auto insurance?
