Deceptive sales agent of the card and ruthless customer service related to credit card

by A. Balasingham on Mar 26, 2022

A sales representative approached me at 3553 Lawrence Ave East, Scarborough store persisting me to apply for the Triangle Mastercard. I gave my consent to apply for the account under my investment company's name not my personal. She said yes. A few hours later, I have learned that she used my company name as my employer and applied for the credit, which messed up my credit profile as I am not self-employed. She purposely input the wrong information to promote a sale without realizing how it impacts the consumer. Upon closing my account, I spoke with the supervisor at the Canadian Tire MC department about the incident, she said "I will request the back office to make a request to reverse the information on your credit file". I made a request to CC the process to my e-mail, but she said "we don't do that". I also asked her to give me the name and contact details of the contact person who may handle my complaint, she said " I don't have anyone". Ruthless attitude is what I have experienced with Canadian Tire MC bank staff.

Fraud and shady company

I had a credit card through CT Bank that opened it in 2018. They closed it without my knowledge in 2020 because apparently, I missed 3 months in a row of small payments which was NOT the case. Fast forward to today I went and looked at my credit score to find it dropped significantly due to CTB when they closed my account it says bad debt write off and no one ever contacted me to collect in 2 years. CTB reopened the account and sent it to their bank/collections and reported it on my credit as an individual problem now and it doesn't show now that it was a bad debt write off and closed it shows it is "in collections" and to boot when they closed the account it says amount past due $0 and now it says $1850!!! The report days are within a few days when I printed off the documents to send to trans union to report fraud.
DO NOT ever deal with Canadian Tire Bank. Even when I called they said they are allowed to do this and I was told and shown by my lawyer they are NOT. Bad debt write-off means they wrote it off and no attempts to collect and now 2 years later they are trying to collect and adding interest screwing up people's credit for what purpose?

Avoid this card/company

When I went to pay for groceries today I found out my card was on hold... why? Because I made a payment! The associates on the phone (they don't have a chat function- another reason to avoid this stone-age company) told me that Canadian Tire Bank randomly places holds on accounts as a security feature. I am not sure how this gives better security, especially when the hold was placed after making a $900 payment. They told me the hold will last 10-14 business days, and they will not remove the hold. I asked how this was communicated to me (email, notification, the legal paperwork) and they said that this information is not communicated to customers, this is just their practice. Please understand that I am the type of customer who always pays her full balance each month- so perhaps I am being punished because they are not getting a bunch of interest payments from me. Please avoid this shady company unless you enjoy having random holds placed on your account every 6-8 weeks.

Tricked into signing up...

by Serge on Feb 19, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

My older Dad who does not speak a lot of English was tricked into signing up for this credit card in the store. Given his limited language understanding, he thought that he is signing up for a simple rewards card and not for a credit card. He already has a credit card with RBC and does not want another one to manage. I don't like these sales tricks of selling stuff to people who do not understand what they are getting. I have cancelled the card for him.
