A very slow process of claim after positive covid test while travelling abroad. It's been 12 weeks and after being assured multiple times that they have all the information they need, they email back and say they are missing information.
Very poor customer service, long review time, long waiting time on the phone, and incompetent staff...
I booked travel interruption insurance with them and booked for March 19-26. Received an email thanking me for the business, but no details. Just two buttons: View Confirmation and View Policy. I believed everything was all set.
Went to print out the details and confirmation on March 18 (the day before the trip) and couldn't get in the "View COnfirmation" with the travel date and phone number. I call and get an agent, and it turns out the system saved my trip for Feb 19-26 (how would I know this if they use start date as criteria to view). She passes me to customer service, that takes 45 minutes. I get a service representative on the line who tells me there's nothing they can do because the trip was in the past, and I should talk to my agent, Michael (there was no Michael. I did it all online). So I end up having to buy another policy but did it through someone else. Manulife essentially stole my money.
I had purchased travel insurance for 1 year so that I could attend medical school in the Caribbean, but I decided to stay in Canada. I called them as soon as I knew which was about 3 weeks after I purchased the insurance and they hung up on me 3 times in total after I waited for 1 hour each time. It’s almost as if they pick up and hang up on purpose to reduce call volumes. When I finally did get to speak with someone I was declined even a partial refund. So they swallowed $985.00 knowing that I don’t need and will not be using the services. I never even travelled. It would be different if I travelled and then tried to get a refund but I didn’t even go anywhere. I asked for a manager to call back and when she called I answered and as soon as I said “hello” she hung up. Then I received an email from her saying that she tried to call me and that I won’t be getting a refund. Very disappointed. Not good business at all. I’ll be going with a different insurance company in the future.
After purchasing travel insurance from Manulife CoverMe, I had an unexpected health event that required me to submit an insurance claim through Manulife Insurance, which appoints Global Excel Management to provide all assistance and claims services under their policy. After countless follow-up phone calls and waiting almost 3 months for a response, I received a letter from Global Excel saying Manulife CoverMe would not reimburse me for the cost of my trip even though I had provided the medical proof necessary to show I could not travel. Manulife and Global Excel have tried to use the excuse that I have a travel voucher as a reason to not reimburse me even though I cannot use the voucher within the specified amount of time. I will be fighting this until I get my money back, even if I have to escalate this to a more public platform to show that Manulife Travel Insurance and Global Excel cannot be trusted to provide customer service for legitimate travel insurance reimbursements. If I could give Manulife a zero out of 5 stars, I would but that is unfortunately not an option. I will keep you all posted.
Hi
My name is Marco from Toronto Canada. I bought Manulife Travel Insurance for my wife, my daughter and myself to go to Mexico for 2 months. At the beginning of December 2021. My wife got a stomach infection ( gastroenteritis ) and I took her to the Mexican Red Cross to the emergency room.
I contacted them using the policy phone number and after 2 hours of waiting, a guy answered me with a very bad attitude as if he would be making me a favour.
He gave me a case number and an email to send the invoices, prescriptions and all the documents from the hospital by email.
I sent them after 2 days around the middle of December 2021. Today It is January 18, 2022. Until now I did NOT get any answer or any payment either.
This Manulife Travel Insurance is terrible. DO NOT waste your money and time on this service. You can be in serious health trouble trusting in this awful company.
There are more options. Take care. Thanks for reading!
Was sold a 60-day recurring covid travel Health insurance plan for my wife and myself in Nov 2021. Was informed after calling them that it is no longer valid due to the government imposing a recommended do not travel. All the other companies I called still honoured their covid travel insurance. Don't buy anything from these crooks. I am phoning to cancel my online Manulife bank accounts today.
I have purchased Manulife travel insurance multiple times for short out-of-country trips to cover our adult children when they have accompanied my husband and me. Since they have never needed to make a claim I was not aware they are not available to contact if the need arises. On his current trip to the US, my son decided to extend his stay. He was eligible to extend his policy but the option is unavailable online and multiple attempts to contact Manulife by phone and email were ignored. In fact, he was disconnected multiple times on multiple days when he attempted. This is the same number one calls for claim assistance! Their slick, quick site to purchase insurance works well but they provide nothing but a false sense of security.
I tried to contact Manulife about my insurance policy over the phone while on my trip and was hung up on twice after being on hold for over two hours. I emailed them about this and they never responded. I’ll never use Manulife for travel insurance ever again, and I’d advise anyone against ever using them.
4 months later, hours and hours spent on the phone, and nothing. Corrected my address 3 times from the same wrong address to the correct one. Specifically told them not to direct bill, they said ok. Then did direct billing (paid the hospital directly). Then said they were sending another payment. That was a month ago. After the 6th call now, with a hold time of slightly over 1 hour and 20 minutes, they now say they're waiting to get money back from the hospital first. Totally worthless insurance. You will end up spending more time than whatever payout they eventually reimburse you for, if ever
