Tried to say you don't pay a month in advance.

1 out of 5 stars
My policy was up for renewal October 22. I received an email stating rate increase in September prior. I called sonnet on September 26th advising that I wouldn’t be renewing as increase in my policy had me shopping around. I received a better rate and insured my truck with a different company. My daughter’s car I reinsured with sonnet as it came in reasonable alone. On October 23, sonnet charged my credit card for the new policy I instructed not to initiate the month prior. When I called to rectify the situation, they recorded as if I canceled my policy on that day which was fraudulent as I instructed not to renew. Of the 715 dollars they took without permission, they refunded me 28. I was supposed to eat 687$ for one day of insurance when my vehicles were both insured elsewhere. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and reported my issue. Days later sonnet got in contact with me to resolve. I sent proof of insurance for my truck with slips for October 23 start date as well as their records of me paying first and last on my daughter’s car through them. Nothing refunded. Forcing me to dispute charges with my credit card provider. They refunded the illegitimate transaction after investigation within five days. Then I received an email from sonnet that they would be attempting to withdraw forcing me to cancel my credit card.
For sure I would say stay away.
To further my frustration. Sonnet reached out to rectify the situation requesting I contact them. Sonnet has not taken my calls and sent my fraudulent account to collections.
Recently emailed me with account renewal with chance to settle at the same time collection agency is trying to collect the old account. When I expressed concern about collection, they stopped taking my calls.
Worst customer relations ever.
Never use Sonnet Insurance as your auto insurance provider per my experience. Their system makes change to your account without your consent (it is illegal). Their system automatically increase your premium amount without any notifications until you receive an email noting "the change has been made" or you log into your account. Their system removes your name from the policy without notifying you which means you won't have coverage in case of car accident due to their systems issues. If you want to cancel the policy immediately because of the mess, their agents will tell you they would use the incorrect high premium amount for calculating the cancellation fee even though they admitted it's their fault. Also, they will charge you 2 months payment in advance which is unusual with other insurance companies. I had such a BAD experience with this company. My advice is DON'T TRY.....
The industry as a whole is monopolistic. I bought a brand new car and had it insured with Sonnet. The payment went through with no issues. I had a clean record, no claims, and or tickets in over 22 years. However for some reason, sonnet cancelled my insurance. I called them and they said they tried contacting me by email because they could not withdraw from my account. I called the bank and they said your account was fine and Sonnet was not withdrawing. I told Sonnet that I was willing to pay the lost amounts and get it settled with my bank. They said they could not and jacked my insurance. I tried to get another quote with other insurance providers and because of this issue of no fault of mine, they all bonded and monopolized against me. Sonnet corrupted my record and does not care. Stay far away from Sonnet.
Will just cancel for a non payment, even if you can make the payment and it's a processing issue. Cannot make early payments, will continually argue. Canceled my policy for a bank communication error and told me there was nothing they could do when I was trying to just make the payment since their recurring system caused my account to think it was fraud. Horrible service, no one to contact half the time. Now making it harder for me to get new insurance from a competitor, and are showing I'm a non paying customer which raises my risk setting when I've been trying to make either early or make up payments when the recurring schedule didn't work. Never received their registered letter which they just say was sent out, and the only emails I got regarding the time period associated was about an alumni offer.
Be careful with this company. If I could give a zero star I would. My credit card was not working so on the payment due date I called in a made the payment the same day first thing in the morning over the phone. They then put through cancellation for non-payment even though payment was made. In their position letter, as I will be putting in a complaint to the ombudsman, they refused to indicate that my payment was made the same day(which is fine I have bank records to prove it). Stay away
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Don't use these guys they have no customer service and don't take payments out on the right dates and will even try to take payments early or try to charge you a double payment for them trying to take money out on the wrong dates and very hard to get a hold of anyone to resolve your issues and didn't even take my cancelation payment and sent me to collections. Don't ever use them nothing but problems they "only deal with emails" but when need to notify you they send you a registered letter that comes in too late to they can charge you more these guys are a joke!
I recently added a home policy to my car. Weirdly, the billing got messed up and instead of the total coming out together, the amounts were deducted separately from 2 different accounts.
One is the regular account where the payments are supposed to come and the other is the credit I used to pay the down payment.
Sonnet wouldn't take payment online or over the phone to fix the issue. Instead, they advised me maybe I should shop for another provider.
So I am. And you know what? I got a better rate.
I never had a policy at all but they billed me for over two years... When I tried to get a refund for the money they took without my consent they refused to help me. They said they could not help me because I did not have a policy number...
Exactly I say so why are you billing me?
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Last year I signed up for Sonnet Auto Insurance and with probably millions of others, I had a major cut back on my hours causing financial hardship I did miss two payments and I paid the first one per agreement. The second one was due to when I signed up for Direct deposit I was advised that my banking account was already on file from a previous claim from 2014. The only issue was it was an older bank account. I tried MULTIPLE times to contact Sonnet, via email and phone; not one person returned my call until it was too late and the payment bounced I tried changing the payment info and was advised to contact customer service. It was a week and no one could get back to me.
No, not that they couldn't they wouldn't. Bottom line I had the money for the second missed payment and was not able to get in touch with anyone to give them um customer service yet no service. If you're here weighing the pros and cons I believe the numbers speak for itself

My policy was up for renewal and I decided to not continue with insurance after they tried to increase my car and home insurance by 20 percent each with no claims or incidents effecting my premium. Cancelled the renewal and looking online there was no payments left on the policy. Then with 4 days left in the term they decided to take one last full payment, even though I wasn't continuing with them.
