I’ve been with them almost 3 years they said they sent a renewal form through email but I can’t find it in there and I haven’t had to do one before with them. I get a letter in the mail saying my policy is cancelled cause I didn’t fill out a form I didn’t know I had in my email...When I called it took 45 min to speak to someone and she basically said too bad nothing she can do go find a new company... That’s how someone who never misses a payment and never had a claim gets treated... Just disgusting!
I was in an accident over a week and a half ago. I've had to refile my damage to property claim twice and my accident injury benefits twice. I have yet to hear from any adjuster to this day and keep getting the same excuses and "resolution" which is escalating the claim to get an adjuster assigned quicker. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere... This has been a nightmare, I'm without medical to this day and the accident isn't even my fault. I am at home in pain daily and Sonnet could care less. A total joke and a terrible experience!
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Sonnet which is owned by Economical Insurance is one of the worst insurance companies by far. I got into a collision in November 2019, where I knew my car was written off, contacted them right away. At first, they were responding to the claim, assured me I would get a rental and the claim would be dealt with. The best day they took my car to their free storage so the cost wouldn’t be incurred. Weeks went by and then suddenly my case was transferred over to an investigator. Still had no rental, unsure where exactly my car was, my car was financed so the bills are accumulating. After we continued to email the claims investigator she stopped responding. I then had to hire a lawyer because I felt I was being poorly treated. Not only did I pay for my insurance, I had never missed a payment and I hadn’t got a rental nor did I know where my car was. Fast forward to almost a year later, with COVID and my lawyer fighting for me, we were able to get a rental and full settlement. It shouldn’t of took sonnet 11 months to settle my claim. If I didn’t have help I would of fell behind on my car payments during that 11 months and sonnet would’ve tried to not pay my claim. No one should go through the stress I went through. Don’t go!
I signed with Sonnet for ease of use and low rates. In the first year, I had a claim for a stone in the windshield (repair). Got quickly settled, valued at $123.00. Upon renewal, my home insurance went up by 29%, while the car insurance went up by 300%. Not an error! 300% (close to $1,000 increase)! And the only explanation I got was that it was because of that particular claim. One good thing about Sonnet: you can get out without penalty at any time. Lesson learned: don't have any claim with Sonnet!
Due to the fact that I had an employer who was not able to pay me on time, I would often try to make my payments before the actual date that my car insurance was due. As a result of paying for my car insurance two days early, they made it so that it looks like I have missed a payment, When in fact, I made the payment prior to the due date. This resulted in them cancelling my insurance For failure to make a payment, even though I made my payments all beforehand or on time.
So I just got sonnet shift to lower my insurance as I was paying $160 a month for basically no insurance (all premiums are at the lowest they can be) and I only drive about twice a week and take the bus the rest of the time. Shift calculates the bus rides unless I go on the app and say I wasn't driving and furthermore, you CANNOT get a perfect score why the app wants you to drive is impractical and unsafe like slow acceleration and not follow the flow of traffic. They also dock you if you use anything Bluetooth related (using Spotify, receiving phone calls and using the GPS). I have also found that no matter the time of day it's deemed as “high traffic” time, and you have to really know your way around the city to not be in a “high risk” area. So with that you will never get 35% off your insurance which I find ridiculous because I know people who live in the same area as myself who pay half of what I pay, and I only have 1 speeding ticket for 10 over on my record that's about to be dropped in the next few months.
I had both home and auto with sonnet. In 2023 home premiums jumps 35 percent. No claims on my part and no problems. I switched home to other and saved 40%.
In 2024 I traded cars. Sonnet initial quote somehow changed and the premium quoted for the new car changed upwards by 50%. Unable to get a reasonable answer so I cancelled and went with CAA. Same car same drivers but 33% less expensive.
Done with Sonnet
The whole issue is over $64.
I got a huge renewal increase with zero changes to the car or drivers. I asked to cancel early to move to another company and was told I would get a refund of $64. Seemed reasonable with a month left.
Day after cancellation they tell me I won't be getting the $64 and BTW, I also owe another $24. I was told their agent made a mistake and they won't stand behind it.
Yes, we are arm wresting for $64. Just imagine what would happen if you "made a mistake" telling them something about coverage. They would cancel you in a heartbeat.
They are one of the least expensive companies in Quebec for auto insurance. This is reflected by their horrible customer service. My car was stolen over two months ago and I still have not received money despite the adjuster telling me "the cheque has been mailed" more than once and over a month ago.
The car was stolen on June 15, 2023, and the cheque was apparently mailed on August 2
They do not respond in a timely fashion. They do not address their horrible customer service even after speaking with a manager. This is the worst company.
So I get this job, they tell me I need to inform Sonnet that I will SOMETIMES have a client in my car. I call sonnet and they start this whole issue saying it’s business use and against policy etc. Even though my job assured me that this is not the case and it’s never been a problem. Rather than CALL me to discuss options, I am EMAILED this letter telling me I have 5 days to find new insurance. It was the rudest, uncompassionate, disrespectful customer service communication I have ever received! What if I didn’t check my email? What if it went into Junk? What if I decided to not take the job? What about my ability to contribute to any decision? What type of customer service is this?? Sonnet’s actions have displayed that they feel customers are disposable and insignificant.
