The only reason they got 2 1/2 stars is when I phoned my call was answered quickly and professionally. Economical insurance gets zero stars for their Covid-19 driver's relief program. Like everyone else, my vehicle sat in the driveway for most of March, April, May & June. I phone Economical looking for a rebate on my insurance because of this. They offered a $165 discount, which I thought was quite low for a $1,400 premium, but I accepted it. Now they send me an invoice for $78 explaining as far as they are concerned, Covid-19 restrictions ended on July 31st and the $78 is to cover my policy till January. THANK YOU Economical for giving me a $4.05 per week rebate for not driving my truck.
I called them to stop payments on March 31st because of COVID 19 as I was not earning any income as well as not driving my car. On the phone, the lady told me that everything was ok I will not pay the month of April. One month later, they are calling me and asking for April, they did not tell me that I had to call 15 days before for the upcoming month. They are now asking for the April payment and cancellation fee because I want to terminate my policy. This is what they wrote to me in email accepting their mistakes but still asking for money. "Yes, you are right whoever had made the changes for your request should advise you that it will not reflect your upcoming payment." They are also using threats like if you do not pay it will go to collecting agency and when looking for insurance elsewhere, it will generate extra premium. Even though they accept their own mistake for not informing me, they are still asking for the month that I did not drive my car. I would give 0 stars if there was an option. AVOID AT ALL COST.
With the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdowns we've all experienced, many of us have not used our vehicles as often as we did. Meanwhile, all car insurance companies continue reaping the benefit of fewer accidents with the same or higher rates.
They have been called out publicly, even by the Ontario premier, that rebates need to be given back to consumers, but I have not received anything.
You can't even send them an email to ask why.
I called them (only option) and could only leave a message. I never received a response.
Bottom line, if your vehicle is rated for business use, you MAY have received a rebate over a 3 month period of between $10 and $50 dollars.
