I wish I could rate 0 stars for how horrible this company is... I had one accident that I was not at fault for and getting my claim was a nightmare. Then the day I got my car back from the shop I got pulled over and received a ticket for no insurance because they gave me an insurance card with no policy number and didn't send me a new one until 2 weeks later. Then they blackballed me. After fighting and fighting, finally, they gave me a bit of a break and my insurance was over $300 (again a bit of a break) then this year, instead of my insurance going down, it went up... to almost $600! Which is ridiculous. I found a new company that charges less than I was paying in the first place, so I dropped Economical. Okay, now here's the kicker, they proceeded to take out the monthly payment after they were cancelled and then charged me a cancellation fee on top of it. Long story short, Economical stole almost $1000 from me and refused to refund me even a portion. This company is crooked. Highly do not recommend.
I was shocked after they screwed up my insurance cards three times, after transferring insurance from one vehicle to another. Then they charged me $587.62. Unreal
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
My truck was insured with Economical Ins and in Nov 2017 my truck was stolen from my front yard in South Surrey, a busy street (26 Ave). During that time I was hospitalized and unable to deal with this immediately, so I had my executive assistant file all the necessary claims with RCMP and Economical Ins as to the theft. I relocated to the interior in Dec 2017 in the meantime. Still no resolution, it was a GMC pickup with 195000km, not a Ferrari. An investigator was sent to the interior to interview me for 15 minutes (on policyholders dime). I have been extremely frustrated with the level of professionalism at Economical, their ability to drag their feet over a GMC pickup. Quite frankly it is "comical" that their name is Economical! My next step is to contact the Ombudsperson here in BC as to what are my next steps.
My daughter recently got into an accident that was 100% not her fault. The problem started when the car was written off, and they lowballed me on the offer. I did some research online using the Canadian Black Book and found out they were offering less than half the value. When I pointed this out to them, I was told that they were sticking with their process (I think they find the 10 cheapest comparable cars and give you the average price) and that they would send me forms to submit a dispute. I had receipts showing that I had spent more on repairs in the last 18 months than what they were offering me. Didn't matter. No discussing it with them. With previous insurance companies, there was always some back and forth discussion, and some compromise. Not here, just a take it or leave it attitude. The worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Since the payout is so low, my daughter cannot even get another comparable car.
I was with Economical/Perth for 2 years needing insurance after moving into Ontario. I got in accident that clearly wasn't my fault. They keep trying to twist stuff to their narrative and ignore hard physical proof to contrary so they can call me 100% at fault. Of course, I am fighting this all the way to top if necessary. They are rude and very inconsistent on top of that. They are the definition of customer service breakdown.
Wish I would have read all these reviews before purchasing. Shame on me. Took days to get a response back from the claims person, even after repeated messages and emails by me. The claim has been completed. Not going to sign up with Economical again. So frustrating. Oh, and the dude wasn't that polite.
Be aware of their incompetence and negligence when they process a claim. Sure they are cheaper but I regret going with them after a horrible and painful claim experience
I was rear-ended and my car was written off after owning my car less than 3 months. Family (Economical) tried to lowball my claim even after spending countless hours and providing multiple sources of proof as to the value of my car. At the end, I was still woefully out a good chunk of my original purchase price. Upon my renewal of my comprehensive insurance (not that I was ever going to deal with these guys again) my broker informed me that Family would have been charging me approximately double (no, I'm not exaggerating) what I ended up paying from a provider I was referred to deal with. GOOD RIDDANCE !!
I only gave them one star because I can’t give them zero. This is by far the worst insurance company to ever deal with. They are all liars and do not return your calls, And their mechanics they recommend “fix auto” messed up my car. A week after me getting my car back I come to find out the engine light is on and had to put $700 in the car for the first time since I owned it. Secondly, they told me they switched the front tire. The first thing my mechanic said to me was my front tires were bald. Then I came to them about another part that didn’t match the other side of my car and he told me the left side is not supposed to match the right side. When I approached the insurance company about all this, they basically discredited everything I said and stood behind the lying mechanics and lying employees! Horrible customer service, horrible corporation, nowhere close to accommodating, misleading in every way! This company should be shut down for good! Disgusting how a corporation that’s designed to protect people could be run soooo poorly!!! P.S.: this is my 4th insurance company I am not new to auto insurance and this one by far takes the win !!!

After my accident, I was told by two individuals that because I've been paying car rental insurance that if I chose not to take a rental card, I would be compensated a daily rate. I jumped through hoops to borrow a car so I could use the rental car payment to help cover the insane deductible. On my last call to them, I asked how I would receive payment and was told via cheque. It's now been 5 months, so I called to check-in and have now been told I won't be getting a cheque and that it's not even an offer. I don't appreciate being lied to or misled. I do not recommend using this organization for your insurance needs. Go elsewhere.
