Just horrible!

My car was hit while parked. I call to claim it and am told to bring it to an ICBC approved shop. Okay, bring it to the shop, they take pics and I hear nothing for a few days. Call them, they say they need more pics, bring it down, more pics taken, and then don’t hear from them again for a few days, so I call them back. They tell me ICBC wants to see it?? Okay, call ICBC, get the royal run around just to be told to call a lazy estimator who doesn’t have time to look at it now. Why tell me to take it to a shop if they want to see it anyways? Why not tell me to bring it direct and this would be done by now? Laziest organization ever! Can’t wait for you guys to get shut down and bring in private, reasonable insurance instead of paying your bloated salaries for nothing! Will pay to fix it myself. As with ALL insurance companies, you're useless. Always on time to take your payment and a fight to claim anything.

Inexperienced, and exhausting

Everything dealing with ICBC is a complete nightmare, every broker works on a different system, so if you go to 2 different brokers, they have no idea what is going on with a claim, if you're making a claim, if insurance on a vehicle has been cancelled or anything! It's like dealing with toddlers trying to put the square brick in the circular hole... I was in a collision and I immediately pulled over and called ICBC. My vehicle at the time, to my knowledge, was driveable and I told the agent that. 2 min later as I'm driving home, the power steering goes and I take the car to a mechanic, an ICBC certified mechanic and they take apart the front end and give me an assessment. I decide I can fix it cheaper than it would be to make a claim and tow it home, I try to cancel my insurance that same day (at broker 1) and I'm told I CAN'T and to wait a couple of weeks. Time goes by with my vehicle sitting in my backyard not driveable and I'm charged another month of insurance... same day I go to a different broker that's closer and ask them to cancel the insurance, no problem, it's done, I ask to get a refund for the month that was just charged, can't do it, I have to call ICBC, Ok... sure... quick phone call and I'm told I have to email them, I email them and I'm told to call them (see a pattern yet?). I finally get a hold of someone on the phone and they tell me because my vehicle was listed as driveable and I decided not to make a claim that they won't refund me... on top of that they tell me my insurance hasn't even been cancelled yet! Broker #2 hasn't submitted the paperwork yet (all good it's only been a week...) Useless insurance, ICBC is a monopoly on insurance that not only doesn't work but it's FORCED! You have to have ICBC to drive in BC, I would rather move back and forth from AB to BC to keep my 6 months of AB insurance. Moving back to Alberta ASAP where efficiency isn't just a theory...

ICBC is the worst..

Wish we had better car insurance options here in BC. Going to look into private insurance soon after having a HORRIBLE claim experience with ICBC. I had my car parked on the side of the road while I was at work. After work, I found my car with a huge dent on the left rear panel of the car. I give one of my colleagues a ride to work, so I have witnesses for before and after the incident. Called ICBC to report the incident, told them what happened. What I was told is that I cannot use my colleagues as witnesses because they "know" me and they're "biased". So I asked about other people that are working on the same site from other companies who are not my regular colleagues and I was told that I still cannot use them as witnesses. As long as I say even a "hi" to them, ICBC told me I cannot use them as witnesses. Took my car to an appraisal shop to get them to examine and take pictures of the damage. ICBC then got back to me and told me that they won't cover the damages and that it looks like the car hit a stationary object (meaning that they think I did the damage to the car myself). That isn't even possible because the car was hit when I had the car parked on the side of the road. I was told that my only options are to pay for the damages myself, all out of my own pocket or I can appeal their decision, but if in the end I lose the appeal, I would still have to pay for the damages out of my own pocket. They wouldn't give me the option to just pay the deductible and get the car repaired. I am so disappointed with ICBC and their customer service. Why are we paying for car insurance if the company will just screw you over when an accident happens? ICBC is just a scam company and they get away with things like this because BC residents don't have better options for car insurance at the moment. I've been talking to my friends about their experience with ICBC too and have found that ICBC has screwed over many of my friends as well. I spoke to a lawyer friend of mine and he thinks that ICBC is lying about not being able to use my colleagues as witnesses. Too bad there's no place on Google to give them bad reviews, I bet there would be hundreds of 1-star reviews for this company.

ICBC Lies

by DanL - BC Senior on Sep 9, 2014

I hit a pot hole and the plastic skid plate under the front bumper received some broken clips as a result. The noise was loud so just in case there was suspension damage I called to see if I should file a claim. The lady I spoke with advised me that if I filed a claim and it was never processed, the claim number would die. No consequences. I took my vehicle to a dealer who replaced the clips for 71.90 which included labour. I called ICBC back to kill the claim number and was told it would still be on my file indefinitely.
Had I known that, I would not have filed a claim number until I had the damage assessed, but now, I realize the ads on TV that accuse them of lying are quite valid. Don't trust them for any thing. They are liars!
are quite valid. Bottom line. Don't trust them for anything. They are liars!

ICBC shop, bad mistake

by poor quality work on Jul 6, 2016

I used an ICBC approved auto repair to do the replacement of a rear bumper of my 2005 Dodge Van. Staff were friendly until after I signed the paperwork . I drove home and got out of the van to check the repair as I opened the rear hatch the rubber seal all across the bumper was pulled off ( the integrity of the seal was totally intact prior to repair). I closed the hatch and took the the van back to the repair shop and pointed the damage out top the estimator. He look at it and said "we don't have to take the seal off to replace the bumper , I said "so I am supposed to fix this myself" He said yes and walked away. the alignment of the bumper was out by 3/4" and still loose. I am not happy with CB's AutoTech Collision & Repair Centre Ltd., 2804 Rock Bay Ave, Victoria, BC, V8T 4S1.

Worst without fairness!

My 8-month new car got $9000+ repair damages at 100% fault to the other driver. ICBC is playing ugly tactics not to compensate market value depreciation and cost to trade for an accident-free car. Why should my property value deprived by an incident at 0% my fault? It's sad that such a large influential company is lacking sense of fairness. Monopoly gets things stink. I had exchanged many phone talks and mails with different representatives in ICBC. No one admitted the fact "A repaired and re-painted accident history of car has less value than an accident-free car." It's frustrating to talk with ICBC people who deny generally accepted facts or common senses. It ended up being waste of time. More pain on top of the original damages! I had to sue ICBC to bring it to the justice of law.

Dictatorship

by Rockies on May 2, 2016

My first week moving to Vancouver I had out of province insurance. A BC resident hit my car, caused a lot of damage. ICBC would not take a look at both cars to compare and prove BC resident hit my car. They told me first to get it repaired under my insurance and then they would assess accident. After getting my car repaired under my insurance ICBC states they can not determine if BC resident was at fault. Unbelievable! I had to pay my deductible of $500 and I was not at fault.

ICBC is a scam

Basic insurance covers almost nothing. You have to always buy "extra" stuff just to get a reasonable insurance package. And they always up-sell product with scare tactics. "Someone got sued for 5 mil, so you have to have it", for extra because the basic insurance is crap. "If you hit a Hydro pole you'll have to pay for replacing the pole unless you have collision", another scare tactic that just proves the basic coverage is junk. Then when you do have a claim, and you have all the insurance, they let you fight it out with their "accredited" body shop when the body shop does poor work. So I'm on my own to deal with the poor quality of body work? As a customer, ICBC should have your back and make sure your car is fixed properly. They do not have your back, believe me. I don't think ICBC'c top executives deserve their $500,000 pay-check.

Offered good advice following a "hit and run" incident and assigned a claim number right away so I could proceed to get quotes for the claim. They provided names of authorized collision repair shops near my home. They assured me this incident would not impact my rates.
