Waiting 2 months

by Lynn Ann Carswell on Sep 27, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

A deer hit our car on August 6th, ICBC deemed it repairable, but the cost was almost as much as my car is worth, so I asked for a write-off. It is now September 26 and still no word. They are incredibly slow. I have no car, and they continue to tell me I'm still in the queue.

The process takes forever

by Angry customer on Sep 25, 2024

Takes forever to get the know about of what’s happening with your vehicle.
7-10 business days, 7-15 business days. They just keep moving the goal post on you and they don’t freaking care. Just oh well, only got one insurance provider in this province so...

ICBC is Not Here for BC Drivers

by Jay on Aug 28, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

My pregnant wife was involved in a collision for which she was not at fault.
As you can imagine, rushing to the scene of an accident involving your spouse and unborn child is super stressful. As was the 12 hours we spent in emergency to ensure our baby was okay.
Little did I know that this was the beginning of months of undue stress caused by ICBC, their poor communication, misinformation, and attempts at every opportunity to make sure they cover and compensate for as little as possible.
Although the RCMP deemed my wife not at fault at the scene of the accident, it took ICBC almost 2 months to come to the same conclusion. After 6 weeks of being told that they had not received the police report, I called the RCMP and discovered no request for the report had been submitted.
I then provided the file number and contact information to my claims rep so they had everything they needed to request the report, it took them another 2 weeks to acquire and review this report.
I reported the accident to ICBC and during this call clarified my coverage and was notified that if we were deemed to not be liable, ICBC would reimburse our rental car expenses and our deductible would not be required to be paid. But, I would need to pay for the rental upfront as liability was undetermined.
Again, before securing a rental vehicle, I had another conversation with an ICBC rep to clarify and confirm this, right down to the type of vehicle they would cover the expenses for.
Flash forward 2 months, when we arrived to pick up our vehicle (responsibility still not determined) we were charged our deductible upon pickup. Not surprising.
What is surprising is the phone call I received this morning telling us they had finally determined my wife was not liable for the accident. Great news, or so I thought.
Despite this determination, and the promises made by 2 ICBC reps, they are denying the expense claims for the rental and attempting to push the deductible onto us.
Drivers beware. Even with full coverage you should expect to pay thousands out-of-pocket, not have your vehicle for months, and be constantly avoided in communications.
We highly recommend looking for private coverage to protect you from ICBC and their horrendous customer service.
Vehicle repaired, responsibility determined, and the time commitment, battle, and stress continues.
If we could leave zero stars we would.

they happily take your money but use starve tactics when its their turn to pay

They will intentionally withhold wage replacement dispite severe injuries and found not at fault, until you repetitively call and beg them. Then they will act like they don't know why it didn't go thru. Scammers.

I have had brain injury, Back/spine injury and a wrist injury. 0 payout, and the wage replacement is 400$ less then what I was making before injury, which is NEVER on time. Also, don't bother calling them. They won't answer. If you miss their call, wait until next week.

ICBC roles out truth and reconciliation rhetoric

by Brenda Camfferman on Sep 29, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

I have dealt with ICBC for most of my life with various cars and have found that dealing with them is a necessary evil. However, being Indigenous, I was shocked to see this truth and reconciliation nonsense being rolled out paying lip service to the Indigenous community. I come from a household of 7 and we have both cars and bicycles. My two sons and one daughter-in-law use bicycles to get to work on a daily basis. One of my sons was hit by a car on his e-bike on his way home from work in May 2023; the accident was through no fault of his. He was going through an intersection and a car was in a hurry and turned directly into him, totaling his bike. Instead of treating him as a cyclist ICBC is treating him as a vehicle and asking him to jump through so many hoops that it is months later with still no action of settling this simple and straightforward claim.
The woman who hit my son takes full responsibility for the accident.
How about reconciling with one Indigenous person by doing what you are supposed to do instead of spending probably thousands and making so-called action plans of reconciliation? Based on your track record, you are way off course on reconciliation!

Truck claim repairs

Almost 2 years later & my truck is still not fixed to the way it was before getting hit by a runaway shotcrete trailer... I got nothing good to say about ICBC or the Fiji island collision shop, terrible workmanship by the collision shop! ICBC absolutely doesn’t care about anyone but their bonuses!

The ICBC logo should be a jolly roger.

My car was written off over two months ago by a drunk driver while I was sleeping at 3 am. He wrote off my car and crashed into my yard. I had to sell my motorcycle and buy another car because of how long it is taking to deal with it. 2 months just to get it towed away. I had to keep it insured as well and the city of Nanaimo even threatened to tow it because it is an eye soar. My smashed car is still insured and I might see some money for it next year. Who knows. Pretty unacceptable.

Accident Claim

by Bianca on Aug 23, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

An absolute nightmare for a company to deal with. I was t-boned back in October making a left-hand turn. I was initially given 100% fault, which was then reversed to 0% since the cab driver who hit me was driving in the bus lane. My original adjustor, Shandi, was rude to my Dad and me. She told me I should feel bad for the driver I hit, even though I did not hit anyone. Even if this accident was my fault, what kind of adjustor says that to their client? She also failed to investigate properly; if she had simply taken the time to look up the HOV signs, she would have realized the cab was not allowed to drive in that lane. I even sent her photos of the signs, making her job 10x easier. She told me the person making a left-hand turn is always at fault, which is false. The only helpful person I spoke to was Desiree, a manager who reversed my fault. ICBC is a black hole of emailing just not to get a response or waiting 2 hours on hold to speak to someone who tries cutting you short. Not to mention, I went 2 months without a courtesy car because they told me I was not eligible to drive one since I was not 21 years old. Therefore, I spent 2 months taking Uber, public transit, and getting rides with friends; all things ICBC is supposed to reimburse you for. Since my adjustor never told me I could be reimbursed for these expenses, I didn't keep any of my receipts and now am being told I cannot be compensated. I am still dealing with this accident 10 months later, with a new adjustor who is just as bad as Shandi. I don't see this being resolved for a very long time. If I could give 0 stars on this review, I would.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Unsatisfied

by unsatisfied ICBC customers on May 10, 2022

To whom it may concern,
On March 17th at 2:30 AM,
Some person drove off the Highway ran over 6 delineators and across my Nabors driveway and just missed the tree and the telephone pole then proceeded across our yard and driveway and into my wife’s car then pushed our car completely across our driver sideways before it stopped, then the driver who was not hurt from the impact Since this has happed we have contacted ICBC and have to pick an autobody repair shop as we were asked to do from ICBC, after that, we were told that we were in the queue for an adjuster to look at our car we have contacted ICBC again to see what kind of time frame we were looking at before a decision is made we were told two to three weeks before an adjuster would be able to look over our car. When I called the 1-800 representative again, she just said that we are in the queue but would not give us a ballpark time frame on any answers, I explained that this is upsetting to us and are not getting any answers. I explained that our insurance will be running out soon and we will not be renewing it for a car that is sitting at an impound yard that we can’t drive as well as we have been making payments on a car that we are unable to be drive, we have had no answers from ICBC on what time frame it could be or even get the adjuster to look over our car. We have been left hanging without any answer to what is happening. This has been a traumatic experience for us as well as a financial uncertainty due to no fault of our own. I personally felt that this could have been handled much better by the staff from ICBC other than being told that we are in the queue. We are the innocent victims here my wife hasn’t even owned her car for a year yet.
My wife has worked very hard to save and build up her credit to buy a decent car with very low KM that is safe and reliable for her to get back and forth to work. We have been getting to the point that we have even discussed hiring a lawyer to investigate this matter on our behalf because we are not happy with the responses and attitude that we have been getting back from ICBC.
Now it is May 09, 2022. Now we finally received a call from ICBC telling us that our insurance is due for renewal, and we must renew with full coverage because our insurance piggybacks on the rental car that we have so my wife can go to work and pay for the full coverage of insurance and make her payments on her car that we don’t have. Due to this person hitting her car in our driveway at 2:30 am, but the person from ICBC explained that we are now second in the queue to have an adjuster look at our Car that is in a tow yard. If any other private business treated their customers in this fashion, they would be out of business quickly.
Sincerely unsatisfied ICBC customers...
