Do not use Johnson EVER

by Esh101 on Oct 5, 2015

After years of loyalty, we have been treated with extreme rudeness, and very high payment. Their customer service is so awful. I might of stayed, but after the way we were treated, we will never give them business again. I strongly suggest everyone goes with another provider.

Customer Appreciation

After years of loyalty with no accidents. I wanted to add my son as an occasional driver to my policy. They wanted to raise my premium to $900 a month more. Of course I cannot afford that. How disgusting to treat a customer this way. I will be changing providers ASAP! Also they still have no accident forginess really? Who does that anymore. No need to stay a moment longer with this horrible company

screwed up car insurance

by Lunare on Aug 18, 2015

Bought insurance for new car end of June 2015, despite several requests have not received a hard copy of the insurance form. In addition, Johnson's keeps confusing the expiration dates for a car I sold and our 2nd car. The latter insurance expires next year, but they have now decided it expires when my sold car's insurance expires shortly, and want payment now. Phoning them is useless as waits are endless, plus they aren't answering email. They also owe me a refund on the insurance for the car I sold, but sent me a 'credit' instead.

Getting No Answers

I damaged my vehicle when I went in a ditch because the road was slippery.
It was about 2 hours drive to my home and Taxi was not available. It was my husband, three small children and me. We were stranded on the highway when this man offered to take us to the city for a flat fee of $200 dollars in addition we had a tow and storage fee in the amount of $600. The vehicle front was badly damaged. I called the claim department at Johnson/unifund and I was assigned an adjuster. I called her and she told me I have to take the vehicle to their mechanic and I did. She then told me they will reimburse me all out of pocket expense. The problem is I was never able to get hold of her after that. I went online and found the address for Edmonton and I mail the receipt there. I called many times to check if they received the receipt the adjuster never returned my calls. After two month I got hold of her through another party and she told me she did not receive the receipt. I had copies of two receipt but I did not copy one. oops my problem, my loss. I am so upset. I am 50 years old and this is the worst service, I've ever encountered in my life. I cancelled my policy and I hope I don't ever have to go back. They god one star but I actually believe there should be a o star rating.

Dishonest Overpriced Company

by mallard462 on Aug 13, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

I was a customer with this company for 13 years, and recently I had the last of a string of very shady experiences with them.
I saved $500 a year just by switching insurance companies to another one today and I am getting even better coverage with my new company.

As far as their dishonest and shady dealings:

Most recently I received a speeding ticket for doing 76kmph in an 80. Apparently the section I was in was a 50, however the sign was removed for construction over a month and never replaced. I was not from this area so I was unfamiliar with the speed limit sign. Under the highway traffic act the zone is an 80, however the police officer still charged me, knowing they were in the wrong and the whole incident was documented on dash cam with GPS data. I also went to the police station and the captain admitted to me that they were in the wrong but could not reverse the ticket. I ended up having to pay since the amount of money to fight the ticket was not worth it. They lawyer would of been $400, and I would have had to attend court in the town where I got the ticket, which would of costs me $300 in gas and about $400 in lost wages. So instead of $1,100 out of my pocket I paid the fine, since the officer who knew she was in the wrong bumped it down to the minimum fine. So I had no demerit points and it should have been forgotten there. Now with any normal insurance company a no point ticket does not effect you, but not these scammers. Three weeks later I got a letter in the mail informing me my insurance would be increased $250 additional dollars per year, even though I did nothing wrong. The insurance company did not give a crap about my word and they did not care about my evidence. It took me three days to get in contact with anyone to even explain my situation, since they laid off everyone and shut down the offices here and moved it all to a mega-call centre in Toronto. So I did finally get in contact with someone who was unsympathetic and did not care. So after 13 years they could not be bothered to give me the benefit of the doubt. The company I am now switching too is only two thirds the price. I am accident and claim free, and have no demerit points, but Johnson treats me like garbage.

I also had an other incident a couple years ago where someone did a hit and run on my car. Johnson were unsympathetic and treated me like I was a criminal. They would not pay out even a third of what it was worth. The car basically suffered from nothing but a dented quarter panel which could of been fixed for under $2000. So after 10 years of full coverage They tried to write off my car. When that happened I just dropped to basic coverage and fixed it myself. I then drove it for another year and a half before I sold it.

All the good reviews on this site about Johnson from three or four years ago, however they have changed a lot. What a damn joke Johnson has become. I felt that their company was the bane of my existence, so today I stood up and finally switched companies.

Happily Left after 10+years!

by Brooke on Aug 11, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

Why is it that on August 11, 2015, I am only NOW getting any money for the chiropractic and massage needed as a result of a NO-FAULT accident in February 2014? Oh, and I had a lawyer!

For over a decade I had both my home and auto insurance with UNIFUND. Throughout that time, I found it impossible to get anyone in Richmond Hill's office to respond to my calls or emails (from the advisors on my insurance documents like Joann L. to the person in charge of complaints - Patricia S.) without having to call head office in Newfoundland to complain. Such a hassle! Get it together!!

Although their prices are good, don't let a good deal blindside you.

In 2014 I had my first NO-FAULT accident and this experience was what caused me to leave Johnsons/Unifund for another company. Here are some of the problems I had, as a result of having UNIFUND insurance, with my small NO-FAULT accident:
-adjustor Larry S. incompetence
-adjustor pressured me to visit only UNIFUND approved treatment clinics when I had one already that I trust and visit
-received mail addressed to me with my name and info but about another client's claim, lawyer, and treatments (and I assume they got my info) such a lack of privacy!
-constantly lost faxed documents I or my health clinic sent to them
-would NOT allow documents to be personally delivered since I live in the same town - suspicious
-recorded me down as the driver AT-FAULT, so when I went to shop around for a new insurance company I had to get this cleared up!
-Took 1 year and 6 months to receive money for the Medical and Rehabilitation services that were supposed to be covered by the assigned policy limit of $3500.00 given to me for my accident

So, if you are fine with having to escalate most matters in order to get things resolved (this is costly, stressful and time sucking) and having to spend countless amounts of your OWN money for treatments covered by your policy, then Johnsons/Unifund is for you! Don't be fooled by their great prices, in the end your sanity and care is much more valuable.

worst insurance company ever

I was with Johnson for more than 3 years. No accident, No claim and no charges for Johnson Company during these years until my daughter had an accident. It was a very mild car crash to the point that neither my car nor the front car was damaged but according to the Police my daughter was 100% guilty. My daughter was 21yrs old at the time of accident with 3 years of safe driving experience with no accident and even not a ticket. So they; Johnson Company, evaluated her as a high risk driver!!! and to my very surprise changed our policy and put her as the main driver ( while she was the second driver) and increased our monthly payment by 500 dollar and our total became $916.84 per month. Immediately after receiving a letter from them about the increased payment, I called and asked for the reason and because they were very rude and aggressive and didn't want to explain and convince me, I just asked them to cancel my policy from the beginning of the next month since we were in the middle of current month. I knew that there will be a cancellation fee because the policy is terminated in the middle of the term but they didn't tell and explain to me that the cancellation fee will be $916.84. They should have told me that because the prime has increased from the next month so the cancellation fee will be the same amount. But they were not only rude and aggressive but also dishonest people who just wanted to deceive clients to get the most advantage of them. If they had told me about the cancellation fee, I would have cancelled the policy right away. But because I neither accepted the increased amount nor paid it even for a month so I assumed that they will reduce the regular monthly payment. But without my consent they withdrew $916.84 from my account. I talked to other insurance companies just to make sure about what happened to me and they told me this is an unfair and illegal behaviour and not acceptable. I just wanted to share this with other customers to help them stay away from companies like Johnson that most likely won't be of any help especially at the time of accident let alone before that.

Terrible Customer Service

by j7tran on Mar 31, 2015
1 out of 5 stars

Was insured with them for about 2 years, terrible terrible service. Called in for a quote one day, had to speak to our local account representative, or account supervisor is what they call them. The guy was completely rude, no manners at all, asked if I could get a quote on a secondary vehicle I was looking to purchase. Advised if I did buy that vehicle I would not be taking transit anymore and the mileage to reflect that. Got back with a an insanely high quote so I decided not to purchase the vehicle. A week later I get a bill for over $700 on my insurance plan because of a change in mileage, I called to inquire and he told me I have to report actual km's between home and work, when the quote was for a vehicle I DO NOT OWN and did not purchase, and the mileage was based on whether I purchased that car. Ended up having to go through a ton of paperwork to revert it all back. Waste of time, Second incident, called Johnson Insurance directly so I could avoid this rep, they advised that YOU HAVE to go through your local rep, requested for a new REP and they advised it is not possible. What a retarded rule if you ask me. So ended up calling the same rep, asked for a home insurance quote to see if I combine it with car insurance it might drop my rate a bit. Got my quote, got off the phone, 2 weeks later I have the package in the mail with the package already processed. I never even agreed to go with them, unbelievable. Processed without my acknowledgement. Same process all over again, had to fill out forms, fax, waste my time and cancel something I never even signed up for. End of the day, left this horrible insurance company and could never be happier with my current provider. My recommendation, stay away from this company, I have friends and family who also used Johnson and advised of terrible experiences.

Stay away from this company

by pburns on Oct 1, 2014

Stay away form this company at all costs. Had been a long time 20 year customer with them. Found a way cheaper rate $1100.00 per year for better coverage, and they charged us $250.00 to cancel our policy. They ripped us off for years with over rates, and then charged us to leave. Will never use them again.

Incompetent

by tuppin66 on Sep 18, 2014

Set up insurance with this Johnson for my car. Everything seemed fine with the agent. Tried to pay with a credit card, they said they couldn't accept that. Decided to pay with bank information; gave them everything they needed. Kept getting calls and letters claiming I needed to pay. Kept calling and trying to pay but no one answers after 4 and no one returns calls. When I did get through they said all payments were fine, then I got a call saying I hadn't paid. Never had so much trouble trying to pay a company. Very unorganized and incompetent company, go with someone else if possible. Can't imagine what it would be like if I ever needed to make a claim.
