Worst insurance company

If I have a choice I would give them 0 stars. I used with Sсotialife financial insurance. I returned my car on Apr 15, 2020, and cancelled my car insurance at that time. Somehow Scotialife financial was transferred over to Johnson insurance, and I was shocked when I received a bill from Johnson. Because even I cancelled my policy, my files still were transferred to Johnson. I called Johnson to explain my situation, every time the agent gave a different answer, the first agent said she will contact the previous underwriter company and I can call back on the next day. When I called back JOHNSON to confirm, the other agent said they need a letter of experience from that company. I called back to them got the letter and emailed back to JOHNSON. The next day I called to see if Johnson can cancel my policy backdate the date, the agent said they need the clear cancellation letter. And they refused to do a conference call with the previous underwriter to confirm my policy was already cancelled. They make things very complicated. I was out of the country and every long-distance call costed me over an hour. A frustrating experience with Johnson. Never buy car insurance with them!
My sister in law died suddenly. We have been trying for 3 weeks solid to reach an agent, have an email returned or any form of communication during this tragic time. We have no way of moving forward or cancelling or doing anything until somebody calls us back. We can't believe that this is an insurance company that should be at the ready for clients who are paying good money. We would like somebody to help us.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
I was with this company for 6 years. In one day they told me they can’t give me auto insurance because all my husband’s accidents are now in my name and they can’t give me 2-way insurance because I have 2 accidents now, which is not true and the simple one-way insurance isn’t working for me because my car was financed...
No customer support at all, after waiting hours, literally hours on hold they cannot do anything over the phone. Their customer portal is a joke, most of the time it does not work and they redirect you to call them like in the '90s everything is phone-based. Cancelling the insurance is a pain, they will jack up the rates like crazy, for anything even minor stuff. I really do not recommend Johnson/Unifund Insurance at all.
Found out a year later that Johnson Insurance was still taking money for my SUV that I sold in May 2019, and won’t pay back what they owe me, said that my husband was supposed to call and cancel, they didn’t tell me that but said it was all takes care of when they talked to me in May 2019.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Almost 3 years ago I got a ticket for having my cell phone in my hand... just a week ago they cancelled me after more than 13 years. I’ve never missed a payment or been at fault for an accident and I’ve been insured since 1991 and have no suspensions or fines. The customer service representative repeatedly said I had been convicted of a serious offence. She had me in tears! I don’t recommend Johnsons to anyone. They don’t respect loyalty or safe drivers. I understand I made a mistake and I paid my ticket but the laws were only put into effect over the last few years and it’s not like I caused an accident. If it was so serious why did they wait 2 years and 11 months to get on it?
We received our renewal, our rates had exactly doubled. We thought it was an error. After several calls, we finally spoke with an associate. They confirmed that the increase was correct and that it was to keep competitive in the market. Being a couple with a pristine driving record this was unacceptable. We shopped around and moved on.
They are not a very good company. I had a bad experience where I was dropped after two "at faults" in five years. I use the term "at faults" liberally, because they define it very liberally, and without evidence. My second "at fault" had no police report and no one to state that I was wrong. The only feedback they had was from me, who told them the truth. They dropped me anyways, even though I had been with them for more than twelve years. When I tried to appeal it to them, and the third party they dealt with (ClaimsPro) my calls, emails and letters were not returned or I would be strung-along. They did not treat me like a real human being or a valued customer. They strung me along and set me up to fail. Basically, they have bad customer service. They also outsource a lot and it's hard to reach people when you need them.
Horrible company to deal with. Have received an email from the company when was trying to add a policy, they said sorry for the 2-week delay - we've been busy.
Then I had to cancel a vehicle policy, after over 10 years of service they penalized me. They did not advise me I can only sell a vehicle when it suits them!
I will not be renewing any policies with them, so many competitive companies out there looking to treat clients better than this... why wouldn't I?!

I had done an insurance claim back in March due to someone sliding into my car and pushing me into a snowbank. Johnson had put me 100% at fault for this accident even though there was nothing I could have done to prevent this accident. A few days later I had sent in dashcam footage of the accident, Johnson had then switched my adjuster without telling me and then had switched me from 100% at fault down to 50% at fault, I was exhausted trying to fight them so I gave up and took the 50%. They are now refusing to renew me and had flagged me as a high-risk driver. Just this month (in September) after finding out this news, I had tried to fight this again and they are saying the video was not clear enough to determine if the road had been narrowed to one lane due to snow, I had then sent a picture of both my car and the other ladies truck right beside each other on the road for proof that the road was, in fact, a 2 car road. After sending in this picture they refuse to email me back or call me back. I would never ever recommend this insurance company to anybody.
