Will lie to not have to pay

My first couple years with this company were ok but this past year has been awful! Added home insurance which I was told would give 20% discount to auto, instead my auto jumped $13/mo plus my home insurance. Called to get this fixed and was told the guy who was supposed to enter the info was gone and didn't do it! Glad I noticed something was wrong! Then some punk lights our car on fire in front of our house while we are asleep inside. I call the next day and a lady at Cooperators sets us up in a rental and everything til we are assigned an adjuster Monday. Adjuster is a very unhappy sounding person who you can tell doesn't want to deal with this. I give her the police report number and everything. She calls back and leaves a message that they are not confirming coverage because the police are investigating because it is suspicious (well duh it should be cars don't randomly catch fire at 4am!)! Then says we informed Enterprise you are responsible to pay the rental and go have the car towed to you or salvage and your responsible for towing and storage fees. Oh but whenever the investigation is done if you have the receipts we will pay for some of it! Can not wait for this to be over so I can switch companies!!!
Then the cooperators left it at the impound lot for two weeks before even beginning to look at it.
I called the Cooperators the very next morning after the police called to tell me my vehicle was found. I should have happily went down to the impound lot, paid the towing and cleaned the vehicle up myself and driven it away, got a mechanical inspection and changed the door locks.
Instead I am 19 days in since I had my vehicle stolen and nothing has happened. I believe my vehicle may or may not still be at the impound lot or it is at an AUTOBODY shop. My vehicle had no visible damage on it that I could tell, so why it ended up there or they want to send it there is a mystery.
So in the mean time, I am just waiting. Too bad I declined vehicle rental insurance for $50. I would have been zipping around in a rental car laughing and putting on 300km a day, enjoying life on the highway.
From the outset my experience with the Cooperators has been nothing short of frustrating. I do not recommend this insurance company. They are owned by a larger firm and despite portraying a community and customer centric focus they are the opposite in my experience.
So far no complain. My agent and others have been very helpful and courteous. I have nothing to compare them with, but I think their value for money is at least as good as others if not better. I had no claims so far. But my insurance agent has always given me very thorough and honest advice.
The rates are in line with other providers so we have stayed with this company for a few years.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
When I moved from Ontario, I was devestated that they were charging so much.
we have always had a good experience dealing with our agent and they are always quick to answer and get things done
I have used this company for auto insurance for more than 20 years, and several agent/brokers. All have been courteous, very helpful and understood my issues. In claims, they have usually processed these quickly and with minimal disruption for me.
Basically have made a recent decision to switch to another auto insurer because despite clean driving record my premiums have increased dramatically with the co-operators. By switching to a well known reputable company have saved nearly $1000 a year for same coverage

I have an open claim with my auto insurance and it has been 34 days now and I am still no closer to an answer on this! My adjuster straight out lied to me about what the detective on the case said in order to hold the claim off! Cooperators still owes me $90 for a mistake on their end for not entering information correctly but everytime I ask it's going to be handled right away! I have escalated the complaint to a claims manager and am looking into escalating it higher again. I have been in a rental this entire time which they state they will only be covering $1200 worth of even tho it is their fault this is dragging on. I have already been in contact with a lawyer and all that but this is absolutely crazy considering the high rates I pay for my insurance!! Very unacceptable! I am seriously considering contacting local media to do a buyer beware story about this company!
