High premiums/no loyalty break

by Miffed68 on Jul 3, 2021

I talked to a live representative today on the phone trying to get insurance for my new G2 driver. I was quoted one thing and when I altered the policy to try to reduce the cost for them the policy was actually more money (ie. increased deductible and comprehensive amount/decreased liability). This person has been insured before under our policy that we have had for 25+ years. We also added a tent trailer which the last person was paying $125 for and we are paying over $200. There wasn’t any valued customer discount.

Unfair and Unjust

The Cooperators increased my premiums after my insurance Coseco was acquired. Somewhere during this acquisition, my files were transferred from Coseco to Cooperators and my insurance premiums increased. When I spoke to the Cooperators, the agent indicated that my policy was up for renewal and due to a speeding ticket 3 years prior my rates were increased. I did not recall this infraction and questioned the agent why my rates did not increase the previous years then if that was the case. I could not get a satisfactory answer. The response I received was your policy has been renewed. When I asked for a breakdown of my policy and we started to go over my coverage it was noted that my discounts that was applied by Cooperators was not accurate. These discounts were adjusted on the fly leading to a further increase to my premiums. My insurance rates was conveniently increased on my renewal once my files were taken over by the Cooperators and has increased to over $100 per month? When I asked for a discount for not driving my vehicle during COVID, I was told that I did not qualify since my Policy was new with Cooperators. How is it fair for a company to take over my insurance without my consent and approval and have the right to increase my premiums and then refused any credits that I would be qualified for?

Try to talk to someone

I received rebates for less driving as well as a rebate for being mortgage-free, which was early July. I've just got my statement for renewal jacked my insurance up to $400 for the year. GREAT savings and then I try to speak to someone, waited for 2 hours on hold and finally, gave up. Insurance is legalized extortion.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Christmas Nightmare

The offer was given to me on boxing day. It is now January 9. They have a dismissive relationship with me and they have become rude recently. So far they have not threatened me or anything which is good I guess??? Why one star? I have had no car for this time. My boss is getting fed up. My second job is a 4-hour shift, so the 27-dollar uber (no know on uber), so I make 16 dollars a day after tax. Yes, you can learn from my mistakes. Where and When is my offer valid? The offer was for Rexdale Hyundai between December 24-Dec 31. However, I wasn't told this until January 4. I live 45 minutes away from there and my local Hyundai was offering a different special. Can you dispute the amount? Still not sure about other insurers, but when I said to them that my Hyundai didn't accept their offer, they told me that because you went to the wrong one and the offer is non-negotiable. So I don't know why the lady who talked to me was so okay with me asking if I should do that. Anyways good luck with your insurance everyone!

Not good service.

As a person who had never been insured under my own name, I went with Cooperators as it was the cheapest option. However, after a year, I realized that I was being completely ripped off. I had payment issues twice and was charged $100.00, even though it wasn't my fault that they did not process the change in my banking info. Also, I have never been able to get a hold of anyone at the KING office. Every time I called, I have been transferred to the head office. I am pretty sure all they do is go out to lunch, or not come in. Lastly, I finally got around to cancel the insurance, yet I check my account and see they have decided to pull out money and continue my insurance. These people are incompetent, and to get one issue resolved you must call at least 5 times, over a two-week span to resolve anything! PS: They offer a 5% discount for using a driving device. My new company offers up to 25%, and they gave me a cheaper quote than I got to renew my insurance after being with Cooperators for a year.

Horrible experiences

My first couple years with this company were ok but this past year has been awful! Added home insurance which I was told would give 20% discount to auto, instead my auto jumped $13/mo plus my home insurance. Called to get this fixed and was told the guy who was supposed to enter the info was gone and didn't do it! Glad I noticed something was wrong! Then some punk lights our car on fire in front of our house while we are asleep inside. I call the next day and a lady at Cooperators sets us up in a rental and everything til we are assigned an adjuster Monday. Adjuster is a very unhappy sounding person who you can tell doesn't want to deal with this. I give her the police report number and everything. She calls back and leaves a message that they are not confirming coverage because the police are investigating because it is suspicious (well duh it should be cars don't randomly catch fire at 4am!)! Then says we informed Enterprise you are responsible to pay the rental and go have the car towed to you or salvage and your responsible for towing and storage fees. Oh but whenever the investigation is done if you have the receipts we will pay for some of it! Can not wait for this to be over so I can switch companies!!!
