Flight Cancellation Application 8 months so far...

by Alex Yng-Chao Weng on Aug 25, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

The card comes with flight cancellation/interruption from Manulife. My flights were delayed and canceled. I applied for these expenses as per the instruction of Scotiabank and Manulife in January. I received no reply so I contacted Manulife on Aug 16. Their Sage said it is in the system but no one did anything. Sage said will take of it and gave me a claim number. Aug 25 I called them again. Michael said Sage did everything wrong so she will see what she can do. I asked Customer Service to make a complaint. Michael gave me 18002630997 (Scotiabank) to call. Scotia blames Manulife and asked me to call Manulife back. The Scotia representative is William with a heavy accent (hard to understand). This is getting nowhere. Had to repeat my info so many times to answer multiple security questions, not to mention the wait time for a customer representative.

Travel Insurance Scotia VISA

by amenatiz on Jul 29, 2020
2 out of 5 stars

You think it covers you but not. I paid with my Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite card a trip abroad in April 2020 with a bunch of friends. The airline company cancelled the trip due to COVID and offer in exchange for a voucher to use with their airline valid 18 months. I asked for a cash refund but they refused. Therefore I went to Scotia Assist I order to use the Travel insurance "trip cancellation". I had high hopes because one of my friends in the same situation managed to get a refund with his own travel insurance with his Visa card from another bank. (Not Scotia bank). he made the claim in April and got a refund at the end of May 2020. Let me tell you it has been awfully slow with Scotia Assist insurance! I called good dozens of time, they lost my file then found it back, the, after 3 months they told me to call another Department named World Travel Protection. Since I got a reply: they refused to refund me because they say " As stated in your Certificate of Insurance; Trip Cancellation will reimburse you for any Eligible Expenses which are not refundable or reimbursable in any manner if, prior to Your scheduled departure, an Insured Person is required to cancel a Trip due to one of the covered Causes for Cancellation." Therefore if the airline offers a voucher, even if you have the insurance you will not be able to get a refund! My other friend in the same situation did get a refund but it was with another bank. I will say that actually there are so many exceptions in the insurance charts that most of the time you will never get a refund. Very disappointed! So now I will have an airline voucher that I will not use and no refund. The insurance was useless.
