Home Trust Visa purposely doesn’t send reminder emails

by Meg on Feb 2, 2024
1.3 out of 5 stars

Home Trust Visa conveniently “forgets” to send email reminders that your payment is due.
Since customers are not getting the reminder, they forget to check the statement, especially if you have many credit cards, and miss the payment date, resulting in hefty interest charges. This happened twice to me already. The second time was after Christmas, when everyone spends a ton of money on gifts. When I called customer support, they told me that they are aware that the reminders went out late, but the statement was available and they will not reverse interest charges. Is this even legal?
Shame on you Home Trust Visa. I’m cancelling your card, because the 3% you don’t charge in transaction fees for foreign currency, you make up (and more) in interest, a few times a year.
Mr CEO, enjoy your next vacation, it’s on me. You are welcome.

Claim they don't allow balance transfers to other credit cards

by CF on Feb 8, 2023
1 out of 5 stars

I had a deposit-secured visa for a few years. When I qualified for another card and had an offer of 0% interest if the balance transferred, I called Home Trust to get the final amount owed. They told me they don't allow balance transfers. I had 2 different customer service agents tell me that. They lied. I was able to transfer the full amount to my new card.
Telling customers they can't do balance transfers is incredibly unethical. They don't give you any interest on the money used as a security deposit either while collecting 20% interest on purchases.
I don't recommend them!

Highly recommended for increasing your credit score

by JN on Sep 8, 2022
5 out of 5 stars

I noticed some people had negative experiences, but mine was very positive. I got this card just before applying for Consumer Proposal, and I was able to keep it. This is the only good credit card I have on my file. All others are under the proposal and report bad debt/derogatory rating. I still have 3 months before the discharge, and my credit score is 620.
Initially, the downside of this card was I couldn’t use it for contactless payment or add to the ApplePay. They changed it. Another problem is you can’t temporarily increase your limit by overpaying it.
I highly recommend this card if you can afford a minimal security deposit and credit limit of $500. Make sure never to go over 30% of your statement limit, and always pay on time. The card is free, and they report monthly to both credit bureaus. Use it to repair your credit and on rare occasions where prepaid cards or debit cards are not welcome.
Realistically, you don’t need a credit card so often as ten years ago. I’m using my MC debit card for everything. I also have 2 prepaid cards (one of them BMO Prepaid Travel MC) and they work great.

Save yourself the headaches and apply to another company/card.

Their monthly statements are consistently mailed late...to prompt late payment fees. My second statement didn't arrive when it 'should' have, so I sent a cheque (two weeks in advance of the due date) to cover period purchases ++ extra$. They hold your check for 5? business days to clear. Even though the 5 business days came and went... They blocked my card (a week before the due date and days after the cheque clearance 'hold'). It's now almost a week past the end of the 'hold' and after 2 phone calls on 2 consecutive business days..." I don't know why, but they should have removed the block by now?".

If you don't relish your time and don't care about being held credit hostage for no explainable reason...then this is the card for you. Don't waste your time on this card... Do yourself a favour and move on.

Excellent card for building your credit!

by S.S on Apr 12, 2022
5 out of 5 stars

I had just recently applied on the 19th of March for a secured card and it did take about 3 weeks for them to get back to me with an approval! They are backlogged due to COVID and that is understandable and you do read online that it usually takes 2-3 weeks for a normal application! I had sent the security funds immediately and received the confirmation of funds email the next day, the card should be arriving within 10 days! It's finally nice to have a high-limit card after years of not being able to acquire a high-limit card due to past credit issues. It's a long process but definitely one of the best options for secured cards right after secured cards from the big national banks!

DO NOT USE THEM

by tonie on Mar 15, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

THEY ARE THE WORSE. Every day since I applied they ask me for a document in an email. When I call to clarify no one knows anything OR you get an attitude. Why would anyone want to give business to a company that can't help or wants to help its customers? When dealing with money that is DEFINITELY something you don't want to have to deal with.
NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE OF SIGNING UP OR GIVING THEM THE BUSINESS FOR ANYTHING

Late statements, bad roadside feature, missing chargeback mail and can't win a single CB

by bn880 on Feb 22, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

This Visa is trash. They always send the statements late, so you can often miss a payment. (You have literally a week or less before you need to pay)
I opened a single chargeback case on this VISA after years of use and at least 80k of transactions, and they failed to send me the first notice for evidence that they need, which then gave me 24h to FAX or Snail mail evidence for a legitimate case. You can't even EMAIL anything to them in 2022!
When a car broke down in the middle of winter and my mother had to use the towing feature at the side of the road, they refused to tow the car to a place of her choosing and to add a payment to cover additional costs!
Very bad card, violating consumer protection laws.

Unreliable, lied to and frustrated.

by Shannon Patriquin on Jan 6, 2022

In October I applied and paid a deposit. Told 10 business days to arrive. I am military deploying in January and a credit card is necessary for making reservations and handy to travel with. By mid-Nov still no card. Called, told to wait another week or two. Still, nothing came. Called back end of Nov and finally convinced them I never received it. They are sending out another one and waving rush fees I was told. Wait another 2 weeks still nothing came. Called, now told they can't do rush to a PO BOX! I move, forward my mail at the post office. Still nothing at end of December. Call again. They are going to send another card (3rd one) and rush it by courier to the door, no charge. Wait at home for 3 days still nothing. Call them again, it went out by regular post on Tuesday. I deploy now in a week 😡I can't even get my refund in time now. I don't know if this is a scam or what's wrong with this organization. I do not recommend it. No compensation or any solution was even offered to me.

Don't use them

by Rosemary Muscat on Nov 2, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

Don't use Home Trust Visa. They are thefts. I had several charges put on my cards that I didn't order. They admitted it was an error but refuse to credit or give me my money back. it takes hours to get through and no one is helpful. They are a horrible company. Don't use them. I even reported them to BBB and they didn't help. I have been trying to get my money back and did everything I was supposed to. They won't get back to me and now they do but stay I'm pass the limit time of where I could get my cashback. Of course, they ignore me and refused to get back to me, now they say they made the error but REFUSE TO GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY. I cancelled my card right away and used another company that has been amazing.

Where is my PIN

by Maki0987 on Jun 23, 2021
2 out of 5 stars

I applied and got approved fast and got the card within 10 days of posting the deposit but I never got the PIN. When I called them they said it was never processed and had no further explanation or apology. They said I had to wait for 7 to 10 days more to get a PIN but asked me to activate the card which I cannot use without the PIN. I called again after a week and no PIN and they said I would now have to wait 10 to 14 days for a PIN even though the place that prints these is close to where I live and so they blame it on Canada Post but not on their initial mistake. Why would someone process the credit card but not the PIN? I have to agree with other comments where customer service talks over you and won't let you get in a word. Won't use them again but need them now to fix my credit.
