They are very communicative when receiving your money, then they disappear when you file a claim

I submitted a medical claim in April 2022 and still December 2023 it has not been resolved. After many hours on the phone and on hold, many emails - they Manulife thru Global Excel - send me a letter asking me to submit all the same claim information I sent a year ago, multiple times. They created a new claim number and when I asked an agent she said they will 'move' all my submission documents to the new claim, but they still need me to submit all the same information. It is ridiculous and so frustrating. This is the works company in Canada and if I can give it a negative 10 review I would do it. Avoid Manulife, avoid Global Excel. Bd service, waste of time.
I have submitted documents, and have receipts from Manulife showing they received the documents, but when I call to check the status, the service representative says they didn't receive the documents. It's like they are trying to frustrate their customers to the point where they give up.
The coverage is horrible, the customer service is your worst nightmare, they don't know what they are doing and because it is farmed out of country they really don't care. Rude, unaware employees making decisions based on their untrained knowledge and text book replies.
Would not recommend this travel insurance and only added it on to my existing plan because I thought I would be given better service because of my history with Manulife. I guess that makes me naïve.
Save yourself the headache and look for a more trustworthy/knowledgeable provider before you travel.
Back last September I purchased a family vacation using our saved air miles. We were to travel at Christmas. Our trip was cancelled. The carrier refunded our trip cost but we were still short the insurance portion of the trip. I purchased the all-inclusive package thinking this was the best thing to do. What a waste of money. I contacted Manulife to have the medical portion refunded as we didn't travel and they said they could not refund it as it was all-encompassing in the all-inclusive package and they had no way of breaking out the medical portion. In addition, I was on the phone for an hour, spoke to 6 different people, customer service, claims, sales, back to customer service, back to claims and then I finally said: "Would someone figure out whose responsibility this is?" In the end, I am out $2800 for this insurance. We never left the ground. My recommendation is, never to use Manulife, find a good credit card and use it for trip cancellation and buy your medical insurance either via your bank or another reputable supplier. Never again will I use or recommend Manulife Travel Insurance, big money grab!
From March till now (Oct) they have been processing my claim and I have sent my documents several times to them but they ask me for the same documents again and again... They are playing with me and when I call them every time someone gives me a different answer.
I never recommend this insurance!
Purchased travel insurance. Had to go to emergency. Emergency wanted money. The so-called customer support which assured both me and the hospital I was covered. After over a year and a demand for all of my records, they refused to pay over $26,000 USD in medical bills. Do not fall for them. STAY AWAY!
4 months later, hours and hours spent on the phone, and nothing. Corrected my address 3 times from the same wrong address to the correct one. Specifically told them not to direct bill, they said ok. Then did direct billing (paid the hospital directly). Then said they were sending another payment. That was a month ago. After the 6th call now, with a hold time of slightly over 1 hour and 20 minutes, they now say they're waiting to get money back from the hospital first. Totally worthless insurance. You will end up spending more time than whatever payout they eventually reimburse you for, if ever
They are very good at taking your money, but when it comes to claiming when you need to, we have been left waiting 7+ months with zero updates
I would not recommend Manulife!
Not worth even one star.
We travelled and were looking for Covid insurance, got one (at least what we thought). And got Covid on the trip, called assistant asked what do we need to collect that we would be able to claim. Did all that she said. Submitted an after vacation.
Never heard back, called a few times and was told to wait one more month.
After 5 MONTHS finally were able to reach them and were told that actually Covid is not covered!
It was so overpriced to buy but got it thinking that it is a good company and will have no issues if we will get Covid.
Ended up losing so much money and being tricked in!
They like to collect more money from you, but will find ways not to pay back!
I will never use them and will let everyone know how greedy and fear this company is. So disappointed!

Submitted claim in June, it's now December. Every time I call Global Excel, the claims management department, I'm told, "your case manager will reach out to you" and of course they never do. Most recently I managed to get a firm commitment that "a decision will be reached within 30 days and if not, they will reach out with an update". Of course that was 35 days ago at this point. It really feels like they are hoping I'll forget.
