I called to add a vehicle to my insurance. OMG!!! It was gonna cost me $283.00/month, more than my already existing car insurance. (One vehicle this would be a second ). I asked why so much, and the way I understood it was because my policy comes due in 4 months I had to pay for the year…. I just bought the car that day. Why do I have to pay for the year? I asked if I renewed how much would it be then, $342.00. Again OMG. I have never paid that much for insurance for my vehicles. My husband and I both have older clean driving records, no speeding tickets, accidents, claims etc. I am feeling so ripped off right now. Believe me when it is time for renewal SONNET is NOT getting my business.
They pride themselves on being an online-only experience, and boy do they stand by that if you ever need support that only cannot offer.
I've actually been berated by one of their client's support people for calling in, wouldn't stop talking about doing it online.
But, it all came to pass when I needed to add another vehicle. I recently changed my credit card and the payment bounced... I promptly updated this.... but! You cannot make policy changes within 14 days, including adding vehicles.
After much arguing, they stated that I can make a payment, and they will make it adjustable online the following day. Yea, that never happened.
I took it as far as messaging the client experience director on LinkedIn as that's ridiculous, considering you need insurance to pick up a vehicle from a dealership. Zero response.
Garbage company.
I was excited to write a great review of my experience right into this point. Today I got a call to pick up my claimed car from the auto shop, but they also informed me that I was still expected to pay my $1000 deductible after having been told multiple times that I'm 0% at fault and the deductible will be waived. I tried calling the adjuster three times within business hours and no answer at all. Just overall seems to be negligence and not an experience I would want to risk having again!
Really hard to get anyone to fix issues on your policy. The website has some bugs it seems.
The system is cumbersome and fails when you need it. Then no backup to resolve it except in m-f business hours. Then rate jumped 55% on renewal. Even though no tickets or claims. Thought must be doing something wrong, but customer service answered, "well, that's the rate".. useless.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
They lure you in with lower rates. Once renewal comes, prepare yourself. The rates skyrocket.
I have been insured with Sonnet for less than a year. My boyfriend and I bought a second vehicle and I went to add it and him to my policy. I added him and suddenly it popped up on the screen that my policy was being cancelled as of Oct. 26. No explanation or anything. I was freaked out so luckily customer service was still open. Apparently, they wouldn't insure him even as an occasional driver because of 1 minor 50% at-fault accident claim in 2016 and one cancellation for non-payment, which is silly. But instead of just saying - hey you can't add this driver, they try to cancel your insurance with no explanation unless you call in. Then you wait on hold for forever before anyone answers. I waited for 20 minutes and then hung up the second time I called. The customer service representative was very helpful and friendly, just the company itself I am not impressed with at all.
I would never recommend this company. I am owed a refund ($72.53) still not in my PayPal account after 30 days since I cancelled the auto policy (I sold my car). I am getting nothing but smoke and mirrors ("technical issues") and nonsense from them. This is absolutely ridiculous to be at this point when for over 3 years I faithfully paid my premium timely each month. But when it comes to paying their customers back timely, no scruples. They have held my money for a month to earn what? Pennies of interest? How is it a "technical issue" to send a PayPal transaction? It takes seconds to log in and send a payment manually, which their Finance Dept. should have done immediately upon hearing from me via a CSR agent that the payment they took 2 weeks to process never arrived (cancelled the 10th; finally got around to supposedly processing the PayPal refund on the 26th of Dec.---- that is incredible enough, right?). Just told today they are still looking into this... Good grief, who is running this slipshod operation anyway?
Sonnet accidentally made me 50% at fault for an accident and then it took them 5 months to change it to not at fault. They charged me a higher premium and wouldn’t refund me and then charged me 8% to cancel and never sent my remaining refund. Thieves!
