Sonnet Insurance is a scam. I had been with them for 4 years all of a sudden, less than 30 days before my policy is supposed to be renewed, I log on to my account and they tell me my policy is being cancelled. I asked why they said they sent an email to manually send in an auto-renew form and this is a new policy of theirs. I checked my email and junk folder there was absolutely nothing there. They said it could have gone to spam and gotten deleted. Unacceptable if you are cancelling my policy and I need to be informed of the next steps. Then they proceeded to tell me if I want to continue my policy to pay first and last again and reapply. Then they quoted me $926 a month to renew my policy.
The worst service ever!!! Good luck trying to reach a representative, and when you do they will tell you to do everything yourself online. They are a huge joke and charge more then what I am paying now with another insurance company. Never again... stay far away!
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
They have no type of assistance due to the COVID-19 only payment deferrals... not impressed... I haven't been driving since being quarantined and the government says your insurance company should assist you...
Claimed to have sent me an email to fill out a re-application form (never had to do that before with them) I did not receive this email, checked in junk and everything the date they said they sent it I received an email from them about “6 tax season tips” nothing to do with this form. I checked my account - no notice or heads up on anything I needed to fill out. Their phones are only for claims right now because of COVID 19 so I had to talk to someone online and that person said they aren’t responsible for me getting my emails or not they just have to send them and now during all of this and with being on mat leave so not having the best income I have to find another insurance company because they said it’s final and had no remorse. A bunch of scammers.
I had a policy for one year - no claims - a five-star driving record. Sonnet sends me a notification to indicate I was approved for policy renewal - what they failed to disclose was that my rates were doubling. That’s correct - DOUBLING. A 100% increase. I asked for an explanation and was told that the Alberta government approved a 20% increase... OK, so what about the other 80%? No explanation was available. I asked to speak with a senior person - “sure we can have someone call you...” NO call and a week pass. All this during COVID when many insurance companies are lowering premiums for people. GOODBYE SONNET!
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Everything was going great tell I made a claim 10 months into my first year with Sonnet. My car got hit while it was parked so it wasn’t my fault. Cops came took a statement. I did everything I was supposed to do. It is March 28, 2020, I made my claim Nov 21, 2019, and I still never heard from Sonnet after many attempts to contact them. Every time I call the claims team they tell me they don’t have my file and give me an email of who does. This guy never gets back to me. I ended up paying for an accident out of my pocket. To top it off my year contract ended Feb 15 my last payment was Jan 15. On March 15, 2020, Sonnet tried to take 186 dollars from my account. I thought this was some kind of error but it wasn’t. I called them and asked why they were taking money from my account. They said it’s for your policy I said my policy was up on Feb. They said they just renew it if you don’t call and tell them. I said - "So, you guys renew policies without asking the customer?" They said they sent me an email that they didn’t send. Then later said they called me. My policy was 120 a month so I guess because I made the claim (that they won’t get back to me about or pay) the put my insurance up to 186. Long story short I would stay far away from this company. The low rate and easy sign is the only thing good about them. When it comes time to interact with them you will have problems. Oh, and when I talked to a supervisor about their cancelling my policy they said we still have to charge you for the days we insured you. What a joke I agreed to a year nothing more. I wasn’t happy and I didn’t renew. They renewed for me and overcharged me then charged me for days they insured me smh. I never even knew I had insurance with them till they took money out of my account. If I where you, I would stay far away.
I have been a customer for 2 years. I have a bad chip on my windshield so I paid $500 deductible to have the windshield replaced bc the cheap caused a crack. The whole thing cost $900. Now when they sent me the renewed premium it was increased by 40%. I have never seen such a rip-off. They increased my insurance for the amount they had paid on my windshield which when I called to discuss they said usually windshield doesn't increase our premiums. They are thieves!
I was hit by a deer with my 40 000 dollars car and this auto company wrote off my vehicle and did not give me what the vehicle was worth and screwed me over as much they could to not pay up the full balance! Today I was left with 10 000$ to pay out of pocket and they did not offer any buy-backs of the vehicle and came a took the vehicle from my house and screwed me for 10 000$! WATCH OUT! BE AWARE THEY WILL SCREW YOU AND YOU LIFE hitting a deer is an act of god and living in Alberta your bound to hit one. Thanks again Sonnet!
My insurance policy was cancelled and I wasn't even aware. Even though there were two policyholders - with both our emails, addresses, phone numbers and contact information on file. We were not properly notified that our payments were not going through. We did not receive any notice from Sonnet regarding this issue and during this time their email system was sending out notifications that they were having technical issues sending info. Upon realizing that my policy was cancelled (no notice, call, letter or anything from them)- I took the initiative to call Sonnet to correct and pay the missed payments. They took my payments- but did not re-instate my policy (which ended up being a blessing in disguise, because they are an awful company). I spoke to all levels of customer service regarding their oversight and my issue. And they still did not help and told me to go elsewhere. Despite cancelling my policy and refusing to reinstate it they still email me notifications and promotions. How insulting. If a company is going to go through all the trouble to refuse a client after an error. At least have the decency to remove them from your mailing list. Poor customer service. Poor oversight and poor handling of customers when they have issues. Please go elsewhere.
Sonnet does not care about your safety or financial well being. I am a new and young insurer and Sonnet did not provide me with the full information I needed during my claims report. Not only did I have to contact this company several times to cancel my claim, I never received any confirmation letter regarding the case. They did not contact me at all and continued to reinstate my policy knowing I did not know my car was illegal to drive. Now I can't register my car and I can't afford a new one. Sonnet will gladly threaten to cancel a policy if you don't pay one bill but will raise your insurance and renew without your knowledge. The customer service agents obviously did not care about my issues and transferred me several times to the same people I called before, constantly putting me on hold and making me wait days for a solid answer. I know I messed up somewhere but as in insurance company I should trust them and feel safe with them! I have a right to have full information given to me by my insurance company.
