Canceled without proper communication

I’m now going on over 4 weeks since the accident and the process is taking forever. I can’t ever get into contact with anyone. My agent now just went on vacation for the second time, so now I have to wait 5 days before I can get any answer. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they said they’ll call me back, it’s been two days and haven’t heard anything. I’m so frustrated with this company it’s very unorganized, and I’ll be switching company’s once this claim is done/ if that ever happens.
Due to the fact that I had an employer who was not able to pay me on time, I would often try to make my payments before the actual date that my car insurance was due. As a result of paying for my car insurance two days early, they made it so that it looks like I have missed a payment, When in fact, I made the payment prior to the due date. This resulted in them cancelling my insurance For failure to make a payment, even though I made my payments all beforehand or on time.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
So I just got sonnet shift to lower my insurance as I was paying $160 a month for basically no insurance (all premiums are at the lowest they can be) and I only drive about twice a week and take the bus the rest of the time. Shift calculates the bus rides unless I go on the app and say I wasn't driving and furthermore, you CANNOT get a perfect score why the app wants you to drive is impractical and unsafe like slow acceleration and not follow the flow of traffic. They also dock you if you use anything Bluetooth related (using Spotify, receiving phone calls and using the GPS). I have also found that no matter the time of day it's deemed as “high traffic” time, and you have to really know your way around the city to not be in a “high risk” area. So with that you will never get 35% off your insurance which I find ridiculous because I know people who live in the same area as myself who pay half of what I pay, and I only have 1 speeding ticket for 10 over on my record that's about to be dropped in the next few months.
So we started with Sonnet back in 2022. We thought things were going well. In August 2023 we had a no-fault collision. It took over 2 weeks to submit our claim, and then we ended up having to tow the car to the shop ourselves. We had a rental car and the work took additional time, so we were left without a car. Then, our adjuster was let go, and so it took 4 months to get our $500 back. Now 1 year later and I receive an email stating that our policy was cancelled. After calling, I found out that they think one of our licenses expired. And the person on the phone said, “we should have sent you notification earlier”. Still haven’t heard back from the underwriting team, and now we have no insurance, and we are supposed to leave on a road trip…
Never seen such a unproffecional site or company in my life. Tried like 4 times to get a quote, the site is so cheap and unreliable. Tried to contact them, no customer service you can call, no option for new customers, asked the robot chat to speak to an agent. It keeps telling me to call during business hours. It's Friday 9am, and it still not redirecting me to an agent. I would never reccomend this to anybody. Worst insurance company ever!!!
My truck was stolen March 1st. It’s now April 25th and I still haven’t received any settlement. They’re saying it’s because the truck was found, which restarts the whole process. I gave them all the information regarding that on March 21st. April 12th no one picked up the truck or went to look at it. I still haven’t received any settlement from them. Even when calling the adjuster and leaving voicemails saying “please call me back” I get emails saying “sorry I missed your call”. Timelines they give are not accurate and you’re lucky to get the response of “I’ll keep you posted as soon as we can move forward”. I’ve had to take a loan to purchase another vehicle since their claim is taking so long, leaving me with interest I shouldn’t be dealing with.
Their rates are great. But if you have a claim, at least in my case, their rates reflect the service.
I had both home and auto with sonnet. In 2023 home premiums jumps 35 percent. No claims on my part and no problems. I switched home to other and saved 40%.
In 2024 I traded cars. Sonnet initial quote somehow changed and the premium quoted for the new car changed upwards by 50%. Unable to get a reasonable answer so I cancelled and went with CAA. Same car same drivers but 33% less expensive.
Done with Sonnet
I had a car insurance policy with Sonnet for a few years. In 2023, my credit card was compromised and I forgot to change the card with Sonnet. I was notified via registered mail and immediately took corrective action. I had until June 24th to correct the card and pay back premium. All was done on June 4th. I was then also charged regular premium the following month. After which, Sonnet cancelled my policy without my knowledge! I reported the issue and they refuse to reinstate my policy unless I pay the premium for the time that I WAS NOT covered by their company. Additionally, they were supposed to reply 5 days ago with and escalation effort and I have heard nothing. In the meantime, this is negatively affecting my insurance profile as I have a cancellation for non-payment on my file and coverage gap when, in fact, I paid and they cancelled the policy for no reason.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Paid for 6 years always on time got cancelled because I moved to another province and they didn't update their database, they said I'm not licenced, I've had a license since 16, I'm now 61, what a scam, moved to another company and saved 50$ a month, no payments missed, no tickets, terrible customer service.

Subject: Complaint Regarding Insurance Cancellation Due to Lack of Notice
I am writing to express my frustration over the recent cancellation of my insurance. During a recent move, I did not receive any notice of non-payment. Upon discovering this, I called and paid $600 after an employee assured me that my coverage would continue. Now, I am being denied insurance and asked to pay $2,000 to reinstate it, which I cannot afford as I am on disability.
As a loyal customer with no prior missed payments, I feel this situation was mishandled due to poor communication. I request that my insurance be reinstated based on my payment history and the prior assurance given by your employee.
Please don’t use this company at all… they refuse to give me any loyalty or support
