They just take, take and take more of your already taxed money, 42$ for a transfer! 2 mins of printing papers=aweful, on top If you want to take insurance off your car or bike, you return the plates you paid for, no refund, then they charge you again for more plates next time.... absolute criminals...
ICBC continued to make automatic withdrawals for three months on a vehicle that I no longer owned. I went in with an original Bill of Sale from the date of the vehicle sale for confirmation. I also asked them to explain how they think they can charge for two policies on the same vehicle with two different owners at the same time. Their representative( who is probably employed as a supervisor due to his remarkable lack of ability to apply logic and reason to a customer's concerns) could not provide that answer. But, he didn't mind admitting that ICBC has no problem double-charging customers. Not, only would they not refund the approximately $500 that they continued to charge me; they also charged me another $60 to cancel the policy that had just automatically withdrawn the current month's insurance fee two days earlier. The only thing that gives me a small amount of satisfaction is knowing that the level of thievery and incompetence that has become the standard at ICBC will inevitably end in their grand failure. And, if you are having a bad day just be thankful that you don't have to answer "ICBC" if someone asks where you work. Thieves!
My payments last year were $300 because I was 24 and still considered as a new driver. I had 1 fender bender in the last 9 years I was driving but because 3 of the years were in Newfoundland I am now considered to have 6 years driving experience due to the new structure ICBC has. That being said they raised my rates up by 150%. Yes, my payments are now $750 a month. How can this even be allowed? And they are saying that I can just pay 10,000 to have it insured for the year if I don't want the payments. I've got 3 young kids and a wife to feed and a mortgage to pay for. The wife doesn't work right now and with just the truck payment, insurance and mortgage I'm looking at 4,000 a month. What!? ICBC is a scam and they take advantage of people because they are our only option for insurance. No wonder people drive without insurance or jump off bridges. I can't believe they are doing this sort of stuff. I thought $300 a month was bad. The real kicker was that I got a piece of mail from ICBC to remind me to renew and it said that with their new structure, premium rates don't rise each year like they used to. HA...
My hatred for ICBC knows no bound, in the last 5 years I tried to deal with them, they only bled me dry and/or actually prevented me from being able to drive legally. All the way from file opening to cancellation, the process is inconvenient and cumbersome, the terms are confusing and inflexible. 3 months upfront or 6 monthly payment, miss one and you're banned forever from payment plans. They PUNISH drivers from out of province, from the get-go, they told me that much when I asked to justify the ludicrous 250$ monthly payments I have to make for LIABILITY ONLY!!! ( Although I never claimed my whole life.) Punish drivers out of province though workers from outside are vital for the local economy and a car there is a vital PERIOD. Not to mention they have a total monopoly and you're obligated to deal with them to purchase a vehicle in BC. You are very welcome. Renewal is no better, they have a 30-day frame where you can renew and you have to be physically present in BC. They actually ruined my life this fall with this beforehand undisclosed hurdle; forcing me to go back to BC then away on icy Canadian roads. I crashed my car of course and since 250$ a month is already more than I can afford I have liability only so they'll leave hanging and I lost everything. I asked to cancel my payments since I no longer have a vehicle, but no, I'm a bad out of province boy again so I'll have to mail them their plates back then they'll consider letting me off the hook, after taking a hefty cancellation fee. So there goes the last 250$ I had. Again, you are very welcome. To top it off, the customer service is rude and unhelpful, I never could keep my cool with them, all they do is nag you about what a bad customer you are for not knowing all of their book of rules and hurdles. If you are thinking of getting a car in BC, don't, get it from Alberta or Ontario or wherever else, especially if out of province; you will save money and trouble and sanity and not contribute to enriching the heads of this poisonous state-mandated cartel. I intend to never ever deal with them again after I get my cancellation.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to charge "high-risk drivers" more was an idiot. Now 17-year-olds who just got their N have to pay around $350 per month. While going to school. I'm about to enter the second year of insurance and it's over $1000 more than it was last year and just another thing to worry about as I'm now in post-secondary. What a joke of a company. They just want more money in their pockets.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
One year my insurance is 251$ a month then it’s 785$ a month for one minor at-fault claim that there was no physical damage to either car, minor as they get. No one asked for photos of my car or anything. I’ve talked to at least 4 different brokers now and no one knows what is going on. ICBC are thieves and will do anything to screw you over. They are making it impossible for people to afford insurance in BC!
Changed bank accounts and ICBC didn't upset system, when called in, changed my address in the system, though. So, when I realized issue called into account services were was told to $645 to resolve the issue. I paid in cash but put the receipt in insurance paperwork. This was a month a half ago, Friday, I went down to the car only to discover my plates were removed, insurance paperwork was removed and note from ICBC that I had to pay $1900. Called ICBC, where I had to wait on hold for half hour only to be told it was my fault and even if I did go pay the $1900 plus bailiff fees I wouldn't be able to renew my insurance. I was only behind a month in payments, again, because they didn't update the banking info I submitted. Have now spoken to two supervisors who have blamed Canada post for me not receiving any notices, the bailiff they hired for stealing things from my car, the insurance broker for ICBC system not showing my payment and my fault. The agents were rude and mean to me.
I'm having to pay for insurance for a year and I drove for 3 weeks. Was in a car accident, didn't know better about cancelling my policy. My fault, but I still can't believe I have to pay 3000.00 for literally no reason. Also, customer service rep I talked to was so mean.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Everything dealing with ICBC is a complete nightmare, every broker works on a different system, so if you go to 2 different brokers, they have no idea what is going on with a claim, if you're making a claim, if insurance on a vehicle has been cancelled or anything! It's like dealing with toddlers trying to put the square brick in the circular hole... I was in a collision and I immediately pulled over and called ICBC. My vehicle at the time, to my knowledge, was driveable and I told the agent that. 2 min later as I'm driving home, the power steering goes and I take the car to a mechanic, an ICBC certified mechanic and they take apart the front end and give me an assessment. I decide I can fix it cheaper than it would be to make a claim and tow it home, I try to cancel my insurance that same day (at broker 1) and I'm told I CAN'T and to wait a couple of weeks. Time goes by with my vehicle sitting in my backyard not driveable and I'm charged another month of insurance... same day I go to a different broker that's closer and ask them to cancel the insurance, no problem, it's done, I ask to get a refund for the month that was just charged, can't do it, I have to call ICBC, Ok... sure... quick phone call and I'm told I have to email them, I email them and I'm told to call them (see a pattern yet?). I finally get a hold of someone on the phone and they tell me because my vehicle was listed as driveable and I decided not to make a claim that they won't refund me... on top of that they tell me my insurance hasn't even been cancelled yet! Broker #2 hasn't submitted the paperwork yet (all good it's only been a week...) Useless insurance, ICBC is a monopoly on insurance that not only doesn't work but it's FORCED! You have to have ICBC to drive in BC, I would rather move back and forth from AB to BC to keep my 6 months of AB insurance. Moving back to Alberta ASAP where efficiency isn't just a theory...

They will intentionally withhold wage replacement dispite severe injuries and found not at fault, until you repetitively call and beg them. Then they will act like they don't know why it didn't go thru. Scammers.
I have had brain injury, Back/spine injury and a wrist injury. 0 payout, and the wage replacement is 400$ less then what I was making before injury, which is NEVER on time. Also, don't bother calling them. They won't answer. If you miss their call, wait until next week.
